- NarcisoP500 contributionsUniqueAmazing experince. Towels must be included and not for sales and the diving suits should be for all sizes, including children. But still a unique adventure.Written 23 October 2024
- jenniferhN3166MR0 contributionsWonderful adventureWhat a wonderful and unforgettable adventure! We saw birds, penguins, and of course sea lions! Man, did we see sea lions! The water was cold but not worth skipping. The meeting place, a cafe, felt completely safe and we were not bothered by the guano smell while on the water. This was an amazing experience, and I’m glad we got to share it as a family. Thanks to our guide, Julio, for everything!!Written 4 August 2024
- donaldvw0 contributionsSea Lion Tour is an absolute MUST‼️We are all very well traveled and have been on a lot of excursions, this was easily one of the top ones we have ever been on. The tour guide Diego was amazing and took very good care of us. The experience with the wild life, especially the sea lions was one of the very best I have ever had‼️ If you are in Lima, this tour is a MUST‼️‼️‼️Written 11 April 2024
- rimau20170 contributionsSwimming in the kinder garden of sea lionsIt is impossible to say how many emotions the tour with the sea lions caused, it was so sensitive, interesting and funny to swim near sea lions babies 👍👍👍Written 24 February 2024
- aleksandramO3050AQ0 contributionsAmazing yet respectful adventure with sealsIt was the best trip of my life! As a life-long seal enthusiast I could not be happier to swim with them. What is extremely important is that the excursion was ethical in its every aspect - no one fed the seals and we were warned not to pet them or come too close. I believe that the price was reasonable and that it made every side respect the other.Written 17 February 2024
- julierV1755JL0 contributionsSwimming with Sea LionsThis was a fabulous trip! Well organized and very safe! Swimming with the sea lions was just magical and we won't forget it! Would highly recommend anyone to go on this tour. We booked this rather than doing the cruise ship option, so great value for money!! If you do decide to do this double check the shuttle service from the cruise ship first, we had to go into town as you weren't allowed to get off at the gates, and no taxis or Ubers could enter the port, we then had to come all the way back! We nearly missed the tour as this took 1 1/2 hours even though it was only 5 mins down the road.Written 26 March 2023
- X8302CNkarlav0 contributionsamazing experienceCaptain and tour guide were really nice and gave clear instructions. Water is really cold even during summer so be prepared. Take your own towels and a hoodie for the way back.Written 9 January 2023
- CamillaMalmberg0 contributionsDo not miss this!!This was amazing! Too see the sea lions so close up and be in the water close to them!😍 Noice and smell from them was a surprise, consider yourself warned😜 Drinks before and snacks after was included and much appreciated!Written 20 December 2022
- Laura T0 contributionsCold, exciting, memorable! We chose this adventure because it was affordable and offered the opportunity to see penguins and swim with sea lions. It absolutely did not disappoint! I highly recommend it, but there are a few notes worth mentioning. The tour starts in Callao, where cruise ships dock. We thought that meant we would be able to go straight from the ship to the tour, but that's not the case. Due to port rules, you can't go from the ship into Callao. The bus will take you to Lima, but you can't get off in Callao. Callao is a rough place. Likewise, you can't go back to the ship except by taking the shuttle bus. We took the cruise shuttle to Lima, took an Uber to Callao (about $8), then took a taxi back to Lima and shuttle to the ship. It can also be tricky to find an Uber or taxi that's willing to drive you between the two cities. Be sure to give yourself some time. The address from the tour company takes you to a corner cafe. Our tour guide met us at the car and asked if we were there for the Palomino Island tour. The boat ride was pleasant and the tour guide gave us lots of information about the sea birds and islands we passed. The first two islands had an interesting history, with a prison on one and a presidential home and Navy base on the other. After that, we passed an island with many birds, including a few Humboldt penguins. Don't expect a huge flock of penguins, but there are several. The big attraction was the island covered with sea lions. Our guide gave us tips on how to behave in the water. They had a good range of wetsuit sizes, including one to fit my *healthy* American-sized husband. These are shorty wetsuits, so be prepared for COLD water. That first plunge took my breath away, but I did acclimate to the water within a minute or so. We stayed in the water for about 15 minutes and I never felt the urge to get out of the water early. Sea lions did swim around us and checked us out, but I don't believe any of them actually touched the swimmers. I wish I had my waterproof camera, though, since the sea lions did come within a foot or two of me. Overall, it was an exciting, memorable experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat!Written 19 December 2022

- 438abhineeta0 contributionsGreat experience - must do!Excellent adventure - one to remember for a very long time. Well organised. Rodrigo is an absolute star. Gives you great insights into Lima and is funny, thorough with safety procedures and a good host. Took memorable photos and videos for us on our GoPro - certainly goes out of his way. Glad that we signed up with these folks.Written 13 November 2022
- oanalum0 contributionsWould do againThis was such a nice and exciting experience despite the low temperatures. Rodrigo, our guide, was amazing and jumped into the 16degree water with us so we could get closer to the sea lions. Definitely worth it! Thank you, Rodrigo!Written 4 October 2022

- Alexispotvin0 contributionsMemorable! Don't hesistate! The activity was very fun, entertaining and educationnal as well. The guide was quite easy going and would make us feel safe and confortable. Being that close to the sea lions is something special even if the water is cold (after 2-3 minutes your body will acclimate to the temperature of the water). We recommend 100% as this was one of our best experience in Peru! Feel free to book a tour with them with your friends or family you will enjoy it very much.Written 18 May 2022

We really loved this boat trip. The tour felt organised and professional. We took an Uber from Lima for a good price and met in the cafe in Callao( there is no sign or office but the organisers were looking out for arrivals. ) There were toilets in the cafe and at the harbour which you could use before and after the tour. Alex was a great guide with good English and Spanish. We saw penguins, and we swam with so many sea lions who were really curious and friendly. It was amazing, they come up close to check you out but it did not feel frightening at all. You are provided with shortie wet suits and life jackets. I was reassured to hear that the wildlife and islands are protected and there are strict rules for tour operators so I didn’t feel this was in any way environmentally unsafe.
Just a tip bring your own waterproof phone case- we got great videos as unsurprisingly the $2 one sold by the locals fell apart in minutes!
This was a fabulous tour. We booked in advance and also arranged for the tour operator to pick us up from the main bus station . The office, cafe for breakfast and bathroom facilities where you start and finish are in a slightly obscure scruffy tiny business park on the outskirts of Ica but are quite chic and very clean.
The sand buggies were reassuringly chunky ( ours took about 10 passengers) and had great suspension ( which was a relief as I have a bad back and wasn’t sure it was a good idea). The drivers were great with just the right amount of thrills vs safety provided and they seemed to go further into the desert away from
the hoards of buggies around Huacachina for a reasonably quiet and beautiful sunset. We loved the boarding and tried both sitting and head first. Recommend a scarf to protect from wind blown sand and sunglasses are a must! The camp was so delightful and well planned so although others were there you had your own sitting area and table for food- great touches like an open fire, welcome snack tray etc. Nice barbq food and wine. The beds were super comfy and the desert at night was amazing.
A few tips/ thoughts. We didn’t quite know what to expect and it would be good to have an introductory explanation of the activities on arrival. ( although was well described in the web site). Perhaps a little surprising not to have a safety briefing about the buggies and various activities. We also had not realised we needed to only bring a small overnight bag as it had to fit in to the buggy (ok perhaps we were a little silly!) rather than our carry on size suitcases. It wasn’t a problem though, they waited for us to repack and kept our cases. Final tip is they only provide a small bottle of water each at the campsite so bring some extra.
The breakfast and showers back at base were great and they organised a taxi for us and kindly sorted a card payment for it as we were out of cash ! Overall a great tour, definitely recommend.

I have no problem in giving this firm five stars. I rate good tours 3 or 4 and outstanding tours 5. They definitely deserve a 5 stars. From the time we climbed aboard the boat until we climbed out, it was an exciting (in a good way) adventure. We were part of a cruise ship planned excursion with a mix of young (10 year old young man) and old. The excursion recommended if we wanted to swim with the sea lions to have our swim suits on and bring towels. We had the Captain, Julio our Guide and assistant (my apologies for not remember everyone's name)
Upon boarding the first request was to put on our life jackets. The crew assisted as they could in ensuring everyone was wearing the jackets properly and that we were comfortable. Julio Andres continuously gave us a running dialog of what we will be seeing and when arrived what we did see. And we saw plenty from hundreds of sea lions to colonies of Humboldt Penguins.
The second part was the ability to swim with the sea lions. The company provided shorties wet suits (I think 7 MM) and a different life jacket. Julio gave us comprehensive instructions on how to swim with them and was in the water with us. He kept us together, ensuring that we were not too cold (Pacific waters in Peru is very cold. ) And under his own choice, he took several pictures of us individually while we were with the sea lions. For me, he emailed pictures to my address. And this was a courtesy.
A snack and water was provided for this excursion.
This was one of the best few hours that I can remember. Swimming with the sea lions was a Christmas gift come true. An outstanding company.

The experience was amazing! We met with the crew at the meeting point then headed over to the boat to begin our tour. The captain Fernando transported us safely the whole tour, Alex was very informative (spoke both English and Spanish) and Julio did great at capturing this experience. After swimming with the sea lions and before the tour comes to an end they gave us some juice and snacks. Great service, lovely people!

Very unique experience and one we would definitely recommend that you do if you are in Lima. The tour group is very professional and delivers a trip out to see and swim with the sea lions. There was a less interaction with the animals than we originally expected, but that didn't diminish the experience one bit. In fact, it may have enhanced it as the sea lions are in complete control over how close they get and how much they engage. That said, there were a ton of them in the water with us and they swam and jumped close by our group during our time in the water.
Definitely worth the time to take this trip!

Very good tour to visit the sea lions and penguins. Captain and crew were very knowledgeable and conscientious. Would suggest going in the morning as afternoon, the seas in the Pacific get pretty rough. There is one section where you go through an inlet to the island which was too rough for my liking. That said, you wear a life jacket and the captain does his best to navigate the waves.
Swimming with the sea lions is incredible. 8,000 sea lions and they come right up to you. The staff have a GO PRO so take some good pictures. And they provide a wet suit as water is cold; 65 degrees Max.
Good tour but if you do not like rocky boats; suggest you go in the morning.

This was an amazing excursion from Lima. We were able to fit it in on our way home from Cusco where we completed the 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We booked the Palomino Islands Sea Lion tour with the real hope of seeing Humboldt penguins (not a guarantee) - and we did get to see the pinguinos!!! It was amazing. Our guide and boat captain were also amazing. There was no pressure to chnage into wet suits and swim with the Sea Lions, but most of the attendees did and seemed to enjoy it.
We booked directly with Mar Adentro Excursiones and it was confusing to find the departure site and to understand who were real staff and who were vendors trying to sell us items. We had been warned that the port was not a safe place to be wandering around. Thank goodness for other reviewers who helped with details. You meet up at the port and the location is listed as Calle La Mar 229 - Callao. You actually meet in the El Nakary restaurant (use the bathroom there). Once everyone was ready and all the forms completed, we headed to the boat together. Once the tour was complete, everyone dispersed after disembarking and we were on our own to find our way back to the restaurant and our transportation back to Lima.

Twice I made a reservation and twice without justification they canceled. Damaging an itinerary planned in advance and the worst thing is that without any justification. Easy to offer a service but difficult to be serious and comply. If you are not at capacity, do not offer services that are going to be canceled as if it were a game.

Highly recommend this tour.
Our guide Ismael and Captain Segunda were brilliant, Ismael was very informative and knowledgable about the areas we were visiting. He was great in checking in with everyone on the group and was always on hand to give advice or answer any questions.
The activity itself was amazing, the water is extremely cold (might be a different story at another time of year but this was October), but you soon forget about the cold when you’re face to face with dozens of sea lions.
Whole tour lasted approx 3 hours, I’d recommend taking a phone/camera, a towel, a spare pair of clothes and definitely some sun cream (even if it is cloudy).

The tour itself was great! Jerson was an amazing guide and Bravo a great captain! It was cold but worth it.
My only complaint is that the time leading up to the tour was kind of confusing and uncomfortable. We were told to be at the meeting place at 9:45, despite the tour starting at 10:30. When we got to the spot, there was nobody there, and then eventually a man came and brought us to the “office”. We felt a little weird just following him without him knowing our names or speaking any English to explain what was happening, especially when the office was literally 2 blocks away…why not just have us meet there? At the “office” (a restaurant) we were offered free coffee. I asked for a little bit of milk to add to my coffee, and was given some. When it was time to leave for the boat, I was stopped on my way out and told the coffee was free but I had to pay 3 soles for the milk. I have no problem paying that (80 cents US is a little steep for milk, but that’s fine). My issue was that they didn’t tell me when I asked for it, or the whole time I sat there before the tour. It just felt inhospitable, and honestly kind of scammy. It’s like the vendors on the street that hand you a rose and then ask for money…I didn’t expect that of such a highly rated tour.
Fortunately, the rest of the tour was great. But I was definitely put off at the beginning which wasn’t a great way to start.

Over the years, I've experienced numerous tours of various kinds, but this one stands out as my top pick, largely thanks to the exceptional guide, Rodrigo. His proficiency in both English and Spanish, coupled with his commitment to ensuring an enjoyable trip, truly sets him apart.
The opportunity to swim alongside sea lions in their natural habitat is an extraordinary experience. Although I've encountered sea lions plenty of times from afar, the idea of swimming close to them was beyond my imagination. This tour turned that dream into reality.
A heartfelt thanks to Rodrigo!

The say this water temperature of an average 70 degrees is too cold for sharks -
The water temperature in seal island in South Africa is on average between 65-75 degrees, which is rampant with great white sharks is - sharks love cold water.
Great white sharks live in almost all coastal and offshore waters which have a water temperature of between 54° to 75° F
I dont think this is regulated and people are just taking the tour guides word for it. I don't understand how there isn't the possibility of sharks, feels like an accident waiting to happen....

Hello. If I go with my car is there safe places to park?
How much the exclusions? could you be more specific?
What type of clothes do we need?
Written 22 July 2022
Hello there, I can only tell you about the clothes - swimsuit (hat and sunscreen) will do:-), but we did this excursion in February. In cold weather I would bring waterproof clothes. They will provide you with neoprene for swiming. I do not know about the car parking and I do not remember the price - sorry.

Is the water deep where you swim? My husband and I are not swimmers.
Written 2 April 2022
Yes the water is deep. But you have life vests so even if you don’t swim, I would consider it to be safe enough. You also don’t have to go in if you don’t feel comfortable - there were a few people on our trip who didn’t go in and still thoroughly enjoyed themselves! :)
