About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jason H0 contributionsThe fu*$ around and find outt tour. Beware!Showed up early. Waited over an hour. Staff came out and told me that they couldn't take me because they don't drive just one customer. Then attempted to upset me to a private tour for more money. Driver never showed up. I asked for a refund and was refused. What kind of scam is this place ?Written 23 November 2024
- aaaaa0 contributionsRisk of Being StrandedTook round-trip bus from Civitavecchia to Rome. The bus to Rome left late, and, much worse, the return bus left Rome several minutes before the scheduled meeting time. Avoid!Written 16 July 2024
- Z3431MRhelenk0 contributionsTake the trainBooked a bus from Civitavecchia to the Roma Termini (train station) after a cruise. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. Initially the guide on the bus said they were not going to the train station. I called the company and got that sorted out. When they got us to the train station, they dropped us off 4 blocks away. Do yourself a favour and just take the train from Civitavecchia to Rome. There is a bus for 6 Euros from the Port to the train station and then easy to book the train to Rome. We did this on the way to Civitavecchia, but thought the Civitatours was a good option for the way back. BUT IT WAS NOT. Also took 2 hours to get there.Written 10 May 2024
- Joelitw0 contributions很糟的旅遊經驗Very bad experience with wasting time for waiting. More than an hour waiting for no one explaining. Just saying wait. Don’t be fooled with this company if you want to save your time for traveling. The staff doesn’t inform tourists for the information about waiting time and waiting place. 非常糟的經驗多,工作人員也不告知等待地點等待時間,浪費時間在排隊,如果不想浪費你的旅遊時間,這家絕對不推薦,不然你就賺到生氣的旅行Written 31 December 2023
- annetteq1730 contributionsExtra paymentGood way to see the city but I think we were conned into paying an extra 5 euros each to be dropped off at the coliseum which turned out to be before the Vatican stop! I suspect the driver and rep shared it. Bus was a mini bus so very cramped for 6ft+ family. However a fraction of the cost of cruise tours.Written 3 June 2023
- HeinBloed0 contributionsWell it is cheap, but...It might be cheaper than a transfer by the cruise ship company... BUT... you need to get with the free port shuttle to the cruise bus terminal at Largo Della Pace. The bus leaves outside the terminal, so you must carry all your baggage to get out. That day it was ok: we were lightly packed, and it was dry and warm. The meeting point was on an uneven lawn without seats and shadows. I guess how comfortable the situation would be if it rained outside. At 09:00 hrs, they escorted us to their bus. Here we waited for more walk-ins without reservation but also waited longer than 09:30 hrs. For someone with a tight flight, it would not be funny to wait for someone who is not punctual or for potential further walk-ins to fill up the bus. Lucky for the guests going to Rome: they had a separate bus and were not filled up on our bus. The bus itself was modern, clean, and comfortable. Air-conditioning worked. They only stop at Terminal 3 - so guests leaving from Terminal 1 need to walk a while. So check if it is worth paying slightly more and go directly from the ship to the appropriate terminal without walking from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1. Sometimes it is worth paying slightly more for a private transfer, especially if you are a party of 3/4 or more.Written 13 September 2022
- gingerRhodeIsland0 contributionsDo not count on them for transport!!!!!!!!!!Provide the service we paid for. They cancelled the bus on our return to Rome after the cruise leaving us stuck to find other transportation. No assistance offered to help us. Should not advertise service that you cancel because you did not fill the bus, get a smaller bus. Their were 5 in our party alone.Written 20 July 2022
- Flyer5401120 contributionsBus not turning upBus in Laverno did not turn up, I was stuck in the requested meeting place with no transport to Florence. I negotiated a taxi shared by 6 people for 315 Euros. My ticket with Civitatours cost me 70 Euros. I am out of pocket by 105 euros. One rep at the meeting point was selling seats on the Livorno site seeing bus, she said sorry your bus is cancelled, no email or organised transport for me. She telephoned the office a picture of my ticket was taken and she said I will get a refund. What a poor company, will never use them again. On arriving home I emailed Civitatours several time they did refund my 70Euros but not the additional euros spent on alternative transport or any compensation for the problems caused by Civitatours. I would not recommend this company, leave you high and dry.Written 14 July 2022

- Judy G0 contributionsReasonable transportationThis was a very easy economical way to get to the airport. The coach bus was comfortable. Would definitely use again.Written 8 October 2019
- Treefoot0 contributionsLied about waiting timeThe tour guide, a woman from the Dominican Republic, was very good. But the woman who sold us the tickets said we would wait 15 minutes but 45 minutes later we were still sitting there. The deception and the long wait annoyed me greatly and also annoyed many of the other passengers.Written 27 September 2019
- ChandraRonK20th0 contributionsBest organized tour!We were very pleased with the clarity of instructions, organization, management of the group and efficiency of the staff to handle the size of the group. This made our tour in Rome so awesome! We had the best time!Written 2 September 2019
- Neal690 contributionsExcellent day in RomeEverything worked to plan. Patricia our guide was excellent in both Spanish and English. Great value!Written 15 August 2019
- STho0 contributionsChoose if you want a superficial overview of RomeWe departed from the cruise port and the staff held a sign for €10 to Rome, however this was completely fake as the actual cost when talking to the staff they stated it was the wrong price and it was €22. After boarding the bus, the guide Mary announced the price as €25 with a stop at 4 different landmarks. At the Vatican stop, she rushed off the bus with all 30+ tourists and it was hectic, cross crossing through the manic crowds in 38C heat. My sister and I are runners so we were able to keep up although it was silly given that this was supposed to be a vacation! My elderly parents felt overwhelmed and had to stop halfway. Mary’s pace was ridiculous and completely ignorant to travelers needs. She did the same at the stop for Piazza Navona. She also promoted lunch at La Scaletta degli Artisti for €16- don’t take this option!! Food was average and service was lousy! If you want a very speedy and superficial overview of Rome then choose this tour company. The only upside to this tour were other friendly tourists on the bus.Written 10 August 2019
- chetlong0 contributionsVery Disappointing Rome Panoramic TourThe Rome Panoramic Tour was arranged through Vacations to Go as an excursion from the port of Civitavecchia. Considering the volume of tourists in Rome at this time of year, the tour group was too large for conditions. The tour had more than 40 people in it; it should have been half that quantity. The tour leader was Italian and seemed very knowledgeable. However her ability to speak in English was very poor; she was very difficult to understand. No audio headset devices were used on the tour, making understanding of the tour guide even more difficult. She moved very quickly through the crowds of tourists; at times it was difficult to keep up with her, much less hear what she was saying. I do not recommend this tour, particularly during the height of summer tourist season.Written 6 August 2019

My wife, Jenna, and I recently spent a day in Rome on a Civitatours tour with Daniel as our guide, and it was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, Daniel’s exceptional hospitality and expertise made our day truly special.
Daniel is incredibly knowledgeable and speaks multiple languages fluently, including Spanish, English, and Italian. He seamlessly switched between them, ensuring everyone in our small group of 8 to 10 felt included and understood.
We visited the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Vatican. Daniel provided fascinating tidbits and fun facts about each location, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of these historic sites.
Daniel’s commitment to our enjoyment and comfort was evident throughout the tour. He kept our group together effortlessly, ensuring no one missed out on any details. He also arranged a fantastic, authentic Italian lunch at a very reasonable price.
Since it was our honeymoon, Daniel went above and beyond by surprising us with an “I love Rome” magnet, a gesture that meant a lot to us. He always had a smile and made sure we were comfortable and engaged.
The tour bus, driven by the friendly Paulo, was very comfortable and air-conditioned. Paulo ensured a smooth and pleasant ride, adding to the overall experience.
For anyone looking to explore Rome in a 5-6 hour tour, I highly recommend Civitatours. Daniel’s dedication to his clients, combined with his extensive knowledge and personal touches, made our tour an exceptional experience. Thank you, Daniel, for a memorable day in Rome!

Tour today went very well. Our guide was very cultured and knowledgeable and made sure we all made it back in good time despite the intense heat and the jostling crowds. He looked after the youngest and oldest on our group, taking time to talk to a young boy and also to make sure an older lady got on OK. We loved our tour of Rome, following the blue unicorn beacon, and learned lots. Cast our coins in the fountain, so we will be back!

We had a last minute cruise stop in Civitavecchia due to our ship being unable to dock in Livorno due to bad weather. Communication with the company by WhatsApp was good as our (and other) cruise ships were late docking. There were plenty of representatives from the company waiting where the port shuttle buses dropped off, we did the CLASSIC tour which was perfect for our short trip in Rome. The walking tour was at a perfect pace for us and Andreas the tour guide was informative. We saw all the main sights. Good tour at a good price. We returned to the port with plenty of time before our ship left.

Correct, the Cuban girl who attended us on the super friendly bus, not so the driver, a certain Angelo, who of education and sympathy shines by his absence, as I say one thing I say the other, the Cuban girl (super friendly and Pro license plate), then there was strike of transporters as the girl said. The point is that to go quickly to see the main things gives time, if it is the same as ours, standing in Saint Peter's Square 30 minutes, in the Colosseum about 20 minutes, and in the Trevi Fountain another 20 minutes, then to a restaurant where the Guide suggested us, which I do not remember the name (of the Guide ), you see a Pro girl, and at the same time prepared to do the marathon in record time.
The restaurant, a couple of waiters with faces that owe you money before sitting down (until the owner came up and explained), wanted to lift us off the site because we only ordered 3 pizzas and 6 drinks for 3 children and 3 adults because we had 40 minutes to eat, and there were people who took the pizza in a box. (If you get 60 people to eat at a time, and there are 40 minutes).. advice: take a mouthful of the hotel or cruise and it is more profitable, and go to the bathroom, because if not you barely have time (so you save a couple of discomforts at urination and lunchtime).
I want to think that the strike and that the boat was leaving earlier was the trigger for so much speed...
I do not recommend at least me, excursion with minors who are prepared to walk, and less with young children who need to go to the bathroom (you are charged 1.5 euros for going to the bathroom, at least to me).
With older people with much less trouble walking, as they were left behind 4 people who did not return to the bus, and it is seen that this had never happened, but there is always a first time. The taxi back to civitavechia is very cheap (irony on mode) 150 bowling. If you miss the bus that thank God wasn't my case, that's what a taxi charges you.
It's all the information I can give, there are people who have had a better time than me, and worse too.
Anyway to get in touch with roma, and do a CrossFit session is pretty good.
The best Rome and its monuments (and the Cuban girl on the bus who was a charmer).
The worst part is the face of someone who looks like they're fighting with the world or you owe them money. More joy, that we only live once. It's my humble personal review.

This tour is not what is advertised. There are only 2 stops, the Vatican and the Colleseum, and a pickup on the other side of the city. The other people on the tour who opted for the $15.00 per person upgrade to a guided tour said it was impossible to keep up if you wanted to take photos. The walking time between sites was difficult due to construction and paths closed. Not what we were expecting or what we paid for.

Let me start out to say I travel a lot, over 70 countries. Our tour started out as a cluster being so disorganized, so many different groups all together no one really knowing where to stand. Cruise ship buses continued coming dropping hoards of people all mingling into the mess. Tour was supposed to leave at 9:30. We were asked to be there 30 minutes early which we were, checking in at 8:45. At 9:25 there were still no indication that the tour bus was being filled so I asked the young lady who was checking us in about our group number four she said we were fine just go back and stand with the group of people, 10 o’clock came still no bus I again asked where was the bus she replied she didn’t know at 10:25 I asked where the bus was she told me the bus was stuck in traffic. At this time we were thinking we should have taken the train and deliberating canceling all together. At 10:40 they finally called group 4 everyone rushed to the bus. We ended up having to sit in the back. When the bus pulled out we could hardly hear the guide who happened to be the same girl we checked in with. Someone sitting a few seats up asked would the tour extend the hour and a half we were late leaving and the guide replied no because everyone wasn’t on the same schedule and the bus driver was working on his day off! Then she replied that we would miss some of the scheduled activities but don’t worry we could see them on our next trip to Italy. 😳 The guide making her way to the back of the bus checking peoples names when she got to us she said “sorry about the delay we had to wait for a bus from a delayed cruise ship” I replied I’m disappointed because a lot of us being where and when we were told to be are missing what we purchased and expected. The guides response was “well if the roles were reversed you would expect the same” I said absolutely not. We didn’t arrive into the city until 12:15 … The most important part of the tour missed was seeing the inside of Vatican. The day was pushing thru crowds trying to keep everyone together following a little black umbrella and finally at 3:20 we were told we could have until 3:50 for lunch, thank goodness I brought snacks because my husband is a diabetic, no where in the area she brought us could you get food in 30 minutes everything being a sit down restaurant you would be lucky to even get sat down nevermind order and get food. I personally will never book another tour thru this group and have talked to several friends who are coming on this cruise we have booked about our less than pleasant experience. A complete dud in my book.

The tour should not be call TOUR BY BUS when you have to do a lot of walking. First we got off bus at Vatican outside the wall and speed walked following a teddy bear on a telescopic stick, around the compound to St Peters Square. Back on the bus to Colosseum where we got off and were instructed that we would be walking to our eventual pick up point at the river, at 3:30 pm. Colosseum to Trevi Fountain is according to Google maps one point six kilometers, the Fountain to the river is at least equal to that. We had been given a map with circle destinations and were instructed by the quide to call him (Andrea) if we run into trouble. Even where he would be from 2:15 to 3:15 having lunch. A number of people must have had trouble because they didn't make it back to our return bus.
It is not a tour for seniors especially when you walk slowly.

Avoid this company, their reps will hassle you for your custom with false promises. Yes you will be taken to the Vatican where you will spend an extremely long time, then rushed to the other promised sites with no real chance of appreciation or photography then another long stay at the end of the tour waiting for the bus back to Civitavetcchia
Our guide just went at his pace with no concern for the elderly and those less able despite many requests to slow down
A much shorter stay at the Vatican at the begining of the tour and a much shorter stay at the the Trevi Fountain at the end would have made the walk in between much more leisurely and interesting, we were told the walking distance was 2km we did 17,500steps and it wasn't just us who were lost from the guide , there was a group of 24 others ..
from the same party who had also been parted from the guide.
Both the guide and the tour company CIVITATOURS blamed the customers for this , even when besieged with angry passengers they would not accept responsibility.
It may be more expensive to go by private car but at least you can determine the route and pace
Also this company uses radio headsets which are completely useless when the speaker ( guide ) is up front out of transmission range
To sum up... A waste of £100 for something that should have been an experience of a lifetime
AND, no fault of this tour company BUT be prepared for 5 of the biggest cruise boats on the planet disembarking 15- 20 thousand passengers on the streets of Rome MAYHEM!!!!

This felt like a classic bait and switch. We chose the panoramic tour so we could explore on our own and meet back at the bus. They pushed for $15 Euro upgrade for the headset tour which we opted out of. However the only way to get any info about when and where to meet was to follow the entire tour (basically a 5 mile urban road march) with a few minutes at the end to explore. By then we were so fed up we didn’t care to explore. From 9:40 until 3:30 there was one sanctioned bathroom break (and the one on the bus was “out or order”.

She who was in charge of the group was far too few words! We didn't get to know much about our excursion, It was a pace on her as if we were running the Rome Marathon! There were several that he was not in the pace, an example was at a red light that she and half the group managed to cross and when they were over she just walked away without waiting for the other half and then the Rome Marathon started to catch up with the group some managed not caught, to the point that several had a time to fit the cruise ship and we arrived too late but had to go
but as luck would have it, if she had followed the times she sat for lunch and walked around and discovered for herself, it would have been ok. The group had to stand and wait for her until she had finished eating, everyone else had eaten their food to pass the time, SEK 1000 was wasted and a day's holiday Etc. Leo

We finishing our NCL cruise in Rome on September 20th. We could like to do this tour and then make our own way to the hotel in the evening. What locations does the bus stop at? Can we leave the tour with our luggage when we are at the Pantheon? This area is closest to our hotel. Thank you!

No. En Civitatis los niños pagan menos. Consúltalo en la página. Pero nos ofrecieron la visita al Vaticano aparte y creo que hasta 7 u 8 años es gratis. Nuestros mellizos tienen 10 así que pagaron como adultos.

We visit Rome on a Sunday when the Vatican is closed. What do you do about that? Do you offer underground tours at the Colosseum? Our cruise leaves the port at 7pm, do you offer the guarantee where you get us to the next port if the ship leaves without us if we are late??

erklären?
Vielen herzlichen Dank!

It looks like the Rom Klassisch is a full day while Rom Panoramafahrt is shorter. I would take the Rom Klassisch

We are on a Msc cruise that leaves at 18:00, would we be back on time, a good time before 18:00. So we don’t miss our docking time?

We had no issues with our tour. They came back early enough to get back on time to the ship.
