Don’t bother with a hop on hop off bus, use public transport!
It was raining, that couldn’t be helped. But bus audio, wifi system was not working. No demister in bus and windows thick with mist stopping us being able to see out. No rags/cloths provided to wipe down windows. Compared to other hop on hop of buses this was expensive, and we were told nothing about Oslo, its history or its main attractions other than what was written on the brochure. I learnt nothing about Oslo today, and experienced 3 very disgruntled bus drivers who were rude to everyone who approached them! Fortunately on the return trip we had a delightful young lady who was very polite and drove very well!

        Waste of time
I wish I read the reviews. Colossal waste of time. The audio never worked on the bus. Waited so long for a bus we ended up walking Horrible

        Review of Viator
I’d like to express my major disappointment in Viator I booked a pre paid ticket for the city site seeing hop on hop off bus when I arrived in Oslo my hire car was delayed by 3 hours which meant I wasn’t going to make the bus tour also being inside the 24 hour cancellation period I couldn’t cancel the following morning being a 24 hour ticket I went to hop on the bus but my ticket wasn’t valid they say I was outside the 24 hour period I contacted Viator but there was no customer support no consideration of my botched travel plans it was a flat no to me when requesting a refund I’ve been using Viator for many years so their attitude towards me was so disappointing Viator can keep my money they must need it more I now use Get Your Guide who are so good to book through so Viator you may have kept my $60 but that $60 has cost you so much in lost bookings Viator are not for me

        Mutiny on the buses
Seeing that the buses depart from the cruise ship, and being of limited mobility, this seemed an ideal way to get a glimpse of Oslo. Until we got to the end of the tour and the driver refused to take us back to the ship and started the tour again. Arguments broke out, the driver started shouting agressively at the passengers, who were insisting he take us back to where we started. The driver even saying he was only doing it to help a friend, and, at one point saying he didnt know the way! He eventually stopped at one of next stops and flounced off the bus. The ticket seller at that stop then took over the bus and eventually returned us to the cruise terminal. I trust that was the end of his employment with the company. I have used these buses all over Europe but will think twice in future. There are often alternative companies.

        Feeling cheated
I have not gone on this tour and I write to complain about the misleading booking process. When I booked, it appeared that you need to give just one day's notice to cancel. When I went to cancel, the TripAdvisor website told me I would get a zero refund. I am attaching screenshots. The loss of hard-earned $$$ hurts. And there is no customer care number or email to write to that you can find on the TripAdvisor website. Be careful people

        Overpriced. Waste. Of. Time.
I SO wish I had read reviews before pre-booking this bus. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. If you are booking this you are probably coming off a cruise ship and only have a few hours in Geiranger. Even if you pre-book, you have to wait in line to have printed tickets. It's not worth waiting, just walk up the hill and you can get to the waterfalls no problem. The whole bus ride is only about 10-15 minutes and it is not even worth it. We waited in line for over 90 minutes to get our printed tickets and then they put us on a scheduled bus so we waited another 40 minutes. Everyone waiting who had pre-booked tickets was just as angry as us. Why even bother pre-booking. Sorry, this was on my boyfriends birthday and it was just such a buzz kill. Save your money, walk up the hill like most people if you can manage.

        Wonderful spin in the city
The cite seeing tour was very good and had friendly staff. However, the audio quality was a bit poor and no audio available in Arabic as the stickers on the seats suggested. If you want to take a Quick Look at Oslo I recommend taking this bus to find attractions and hopping off them.

        Great experience but outdated audio
Bus was on time, staff very engaging and helpful and tour wasn't overcrowded. Only downside is the outdated audio with some comments on 2021 future events

        Find a better tour please
Started badly. Bus supposedly due in a few minutes, 30 minutes later it arrived. Audio system inaudible. First stop, bus waited 20 minutes. Second stop after 30 minutes stopped we got off disgusted. Worst city tour ever. Must be better ones in Oslo, we found the worst, or if it wasn’t the others must be horrendous.

Not worth your time or money in Oslo.
We’ve done some of these hop on hop off bus tours in other countries with great success, but that’s not the experience we had in Oslo. Our driver drove past 4 straight stops, so we missed getting off at some places of interest along the way. Pretty annoying.

        Don’t waste your money
The driver refused to pick us up, he pulled over and gave us a hand motions then took off. He could have opened the doors and explained. We ended up waiting 40 mins for next bus.

My Mother taught me that "if you can't say anything nice, don't say it".
Don't make the mistake I made thinking there is a single company in a given city that operatesa "Hop ON/Off Bus". Not in Oslo.

        Would not recommend!
Honestly could not recommend. The first bus we got on broke down after only a short period of time. These things happen of course so we weren’t bothered, we just got off and walked to the next stop. All was fine until we got off at the Swords in the Rock, the furthest point of the circuit. We ended up having to wait well over an hour for a bus from here. Meanwhile an extremely large queue of people had started to gather. When a bus arrived it was a terrible free for all. People pushing to get on before letting people off, people with prams being pushed past. The driver was powerless to control what was happening at all. The bus was packed full of people which was a very unsafe situation. We ended up getting off as soon as we reached a point where we could walk back into the town centre and did not get on another bus. A complete waste of money. Most points of interest are within walking distance so we needn’t have bothered.

Disappointing. Two hop on hop off tours
Disappointing. We discovered these in another country and found for a short investment of time, you receive a good overview of a city. There are two hop on hop off tours in Oslo, both in red buses, traveling the same route and making the same stops. We took both as the first one was disappointing: the audio equipment did not work well. We had been told by the hotel to take the newer one but I could not tell. The one with more yellow on the bus (and on the receipt) was better.

        Not welcoming
Saw how a group of seafarers got rejected to join the bus that is actually FREE for them. They also help spreading amount guest onboard on what to do when visiting Oslo so next time take them into consideration. Tours starting at 1pm or 2pm is too late for them. Don't restrict them when there are plenty busses available.

As a frequent user of hop on hop off buses in many cities, I almost didn’t take the Alesund one because of other reviews. I had a fabulous experience today, and I’m happy I gave it a try. The town (city center) isn’t too large, but you get an extensive sightseeing tour that you could not accomplish on foot. I never had to wait for a bus, easily getting on and off at every stop while appreciating the helpful narration — and there are two large cruise ships in port today. I highly recommend the City Sightseeing Alesund Hop On Hop Off! There are a couple of similarly named companies. Make sure you look carefully to select this one.

We were sold our tickets with the impression we could hop on and off any red hop on bus but this is not the case! We wasted 40 mins at a bus stop that we had no idea if it was the right bus stop as there are no signs, when a bus turned up we weren’t allowed on, prior to this we were denied access to another bus. This is a waste of money don’t do it unless you want to get on the bus for 70 mins and stay on it !

I would avoid all hop on/hop off buses in Alesund. My husband and I used one company; my traveling companions used the other. We both had terrible experiences. They started off fine. The buses are comfortable and there are headphones to hear a little about the town as you travel. But they do not stick to their advertised schedule. My husband and I got stuck on top of the mountain, along with another woman from our cruise ship (who booked the other company). We waited for well over an hour until we thought we couldn't risk waiting any longer to get back to the ship. We all ended up walking back to the cruise ship. Neither company's bus showed up even though they were supposed to be on 20 minute and 40 minute time schedules. My advice - walk. The city is very walkable, even the stairs up to the overlook. There is a free shuttle to the aquarium, which is further away.

Got on first bus and there was scuffed thick plastic upstairs instead of windows. Couldn’t see out of it very well, certainly no point taking photos through it. Not quite the idea of ‘sightseeing’. Queried this and was informed 3 buses were running that day, of which only one had glass windows upstairs. The second had plastic but at least it wasn’t scuffed. Luckily the third bus we got on had glass windows. Commentary itself was interesting. Convenient pick up and drop off at cruise port.

Left us stranded at top of Askla viewpoint in the rain and wind. When "bus that will be here in 20 minutes" finally arrived after 40 minutes, no one got off, so no seats! What a joke. Don't waste your time or money. They lie about their times for busses.

My wife and I took the Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Bus in Alesund, Norway, as we were visiting the port by cruise ship. The bus route gave us an overall view of Alesund. Moreover we stopped at Aksla Viewpoint (Stop No. 3) saving us a difficult climb from the town below, as well as at The Art Nouveau Centre (Stop No. 6) where the views are very scenic.

More than an hour wait for busses for us. Headphones were full of static or didn't work. Narration was informative but dry and many times not in tune with location. Standing room only for a couple of stops but only poles with lots of people trying to find how to hold on. No audio if you're standing. We stayed on at the last stop to get to the museum-long wait before the bus started up again. On the plus side, the bus was clean and the seats were reasonably comfortable. Would not at all recommend.

Supposedly every 15 minutes. The bus dropped us off at the summer museum and never came back. Waited 1hr 15 minutes for a bus to arrive. Eventually had to get a taxi back to the ship. Terrible service I have never been abandoned by a bus company before. Avoid them as they are unreliable.

A great way to see the highlights of Alesund. The provided audio tape was clear and easy to understand. Driver was helpful for those with mobility issues. We boarded at the pier and chose to not hop off. There are two different hop on services. Not sure which we picked. When done, tho Molo Brew serves good food and an assortment of brews.

We booked in advance. There were two busses for two cruiseships with totally about 4000 passengers. Long waiting lines. Kept selling tickets. And that with waiting times of more than 1.5 hours. Schedule of 30 minutes. My advise: nearly every spot is in walking distance. Alesund is a very nice small town. If you take a buss, take the local one. Bus station near terminal
