It depends on what you want to see
Sep. 2019
Oslo's city-sightseeing, hop-on, hop-off bus offers 14 stops. The buses have audio-guides in eight languages. One person on the bus stated that theirs did not work but I was unable to determine if the problem was the person operating the audio-guide or the mechanics of the system. The buses also offer free Wi-Fi. You can purchase a 24 or 48 hour pass and a cancellation policy can be activated 24 hours before the buyers date of activation.
The 14 stops include stops within the central city and some further out. If you were to ride the entire circuit without getting off it would take about 90 minutes. Waiting times for the next bus can be 5 minutes or 30 minutes. There are 5 buses and you have to change buses to reach all 14 stops. When you change buses the stop for you next bus can be hard to find and often a distance away. The Viking Ship Museum is one of those stops that is further out. There are 3 other museums within a 15 minute walk from the Viking museum including the Kon-Tiki museum. The $46.95 you pay for the bus does not include admission to the Royal Palace, museums or many other venues.
If you only want to see the central city sights you probably will be able to walk or utilize an excellent public transport system. Getting to the more remote stops make the the hop-on and hop-off bus more desirable. In any event you are not going to be able to stop at every location and appreciate all it has to offer in a 24 hour pass. The hop-on and hop-off bus is only offered from May to September 30.

Hot and cold
Oct. 2019
One big plus: There was a problem with my credit card (not the tours fault). The ticket girl and the driver offered to let me board without a ticket. Nice gesture but I declined because I was afraid of trying to re-board a subsequent bus without a ticket.
I called my bank and resolved the credit card problem. Then......
One negative: The earphones on the bus weren't working. And that's one of the main reasons I take these city tours.....to listen to the commentary and learn about the history, trivia, information about the city.

good way to travel
Oct. 2019
The bus leaves by the national theatre every 30 mins. Go on the upper deck as the views are very restricted down stairs. We got off at the viking museum, which is very good. If you get back on go to the kon-tiki museum plus 2 other museums there. if the bus wait is too long its only a 15 min walk. We got back in bus after kon-tiki and did the rest of the tour which lasts about another hour.

ok
Sep. 2019
the traffic in the city centre is not permitted, which is were all the sights are!. If you can walk well you can easily reach them all by foot, so its ok. The coach takes you to, u.a. to the outskirts and the peninsula were the boat museums are, which is useful. The commentary is a bit basic, not much on norwegian facts, instead some rather boring info. Would have expected more int erms of info, especially since the route is not that great! As all things norwegians, its not cheap either. The staff and the promtness of the coach was good.

Good overview of the city
Aug. 2019
We always like to take a Hop on, Hop off bus tour when we visit a city for the first time - its a great way of getting an overview of what the city has to offer, and an easy way to visit museums and other places of interest.
This tour is run by City Sightseeing, so not the most comfortable of vehicles - the seats are rigid plastic and you tend to get thrown around as the bus manouvers through the streets. But its a good tour, and we didn't have to wait very long for another bus when we hopped off at the Viking Ship Museum and Vigeland.

DO NOT TAKE THIS BUS!
Sep. 2019 • Friends
Most cities with a hop on hop off bus have multiple buses running at the same time so the wait for one should only be a few minutes. We waited 30 minutes outside the cathedral and then had to chase the bus down because there’s no clear pick up spot around the attraction. It was over a block away and down a street. Then we got stuck waiting at the ship terminal for another 20+ minutes. Do yourself a favor and either walk Oslo or take the city bus. This is a rip off and I wish I could get my money back.

The bus was punctual and every 15 minutes a bus was arriving , so there were no delays. The bus stoped at all worthseing sights, staff was very friendly and helpfull. I reccomend using this company. I used it in Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen during August 2019 and i was very happy with all tours.

Only goes every 30 minutes
Aug. 2019
Disappointing this is a 90 minute circuit there are 5 buses but they only turn up every 30 minutes so if you miss one (just) there is a long wait.
If arriving my cruise I suggest do not wait there the queue is sterile walk left of cruise terminal along the waterfront into town and catch there - it could save you 1 hour and if your stop is only 4 to 6 hours you will WANT to save that hour wait!

Is there a score less than ZERO.?
Aug. 2019
Way too many tickets sold for way too few buses. Buses were packed like sardines with people standing shoulder to shoulder. I am guessing way over the legal limit.
We were on three buses and all were the same, at different times, none when we arrived in port when maybe you could understand it. None of the buses followed the published route. Once we asked the driver to let us out at stop 11. He told us it was time to get off, we were a good mile from stop 11. Another driver would not let anyone on his bus even though 40 or so people got off at that stop. Said there was another empty bus 2 minutes behind him. Ten minutes later a half full bus showed up.
Stops numbers are not announced and nothing about what is near this stop to see.
I purchased the tickets on line. The website says they are good for 90 days. When we tried to board the bus, they said the ticket was invalid because it wasn't for today. I explained the website said the ticket was good for 90 days and I was within that date. After consulting several people, they said okay. So be careful buying online early.
Narration was sparse, almost exclusively stories about Thor and other Gods, nothing about Oslo and little about the stuff we were supposed to see, but couldn't see because there was someone standing and blocking your view. Not their fault, the company just sold way too many tickets.
We have done HOHO's in many European cities. This was the worst. Avoid like the plague.

My cruise ship is docked in Oslo from 7am - 2pm.
Is the first bus at 10am and not earlier?
Do these buses run less frequently on a Sunday?

You haven't too much time ashore so I'd just go with a quick full tour than decide which stop if any you want to get off and visit second time around. I believe 10:00 is the start time as the majority of attractions wouldn't be open before then.

I couldn’t find it either. You will need to ask for a map when you get to Oslo and visit one of the sales representatives along the route. I got one from the city stop the day we arrived and before we actually bought a ticket. It takes you to all the tourist “must see” places.
