Ice Climbing in the Lyngen Alps
From USD 289.00
In winter, Norway’s striking mountains are encrusted in ice, revealing a stark and dramatic landscape. This tour shows off the best of this winter moonscape. You’ll start the day with a scenic drive and ferry ride toward the Lyngen Alps, followed by a hike through the snow. After strapping on crampons, you’ll learn to ice climb a frozen waterfall. Finish by warming up in a traditional Sami Lavvu, an arctic tipi.
What to Expect
You start the day by boarding the brand new Experience Tromsø region bus (@0845), and enjoy a scenic drive and ferry ride towards the Lyngen Alps. On Arrival in Lyngen our guide will meet you and get you dressed up in warm winter climbing boots before we head out into the wild. After a beautiful snow hike (1.3 km) through old forests we will arrive at the frozen waterfall and get ready for climbing. The guide will dress you up in all necessary safety equipment and give you an easy briefing on techniques, before we play on the ice and try different routes. During the day we will also light a bonfire in our traditional Sami Lavvu (Arctic Tipi) and enjoy a hot lunch together. After everyone has had a go at climbing we will head back to civilisation. Here you will be picked up by our van and driven back to your hotel in Tromsø. We normally arrive back in the city centre at around 19:10. (NB! For the 18/19 season we might make some timetable alterations to better the experience. Info will be provided if this happens)
