About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Dreamer2802650 contributionsExcellent family day out.Excellent family day out! The boat was very comfortable, crew friendly and knowledgeable, stunning scenery and soup delicious! Definitely felt like we got value for money! Only negative, our son Eddie caught a huge cod and won’t stop going on about it now 🤣Written 13 February 2025
- marleyblake170 contributionsA fantastic scenic cruise and we caught fishA fantastic trip. We had a lovely sunny day for it and the views were stunning. My children loved the fishing stops and my youngest caught two cod. The young man helping with the fishing was so patient, friendly and knowledgeable he really made the fishing a great experience for the children. He even offered to gut and fillet the fish for us to take away with us at the end. We didn't see much wildlife apart from Reindeer in the distance on the shore. But the sea was pretty rough due to the wind. I would really recommend this trip for the beautiful views and the fishing experience. The fish soup was extremely tasty too 😍 My only suggestion would be there should be more fishing rods available to use so that people aren't waiting so long for a turn.Written 11 February 2025
- timmo930 contributionsBrilliant boat tripWe loved this trip. The crew were really attentive and gave a lot of interesting information about the fjords and arctic wildlife. We had never fished before and we both caught cod for lunch, which was brilliant. The fish soup was delicious. Highly recommended!Written 10 February 2025
- arwinne0 contributionsbeautiful scenery! That was Fun! We saw white-tailed eagles. The landscape is amazing, it was hard to not spent all the time on the outside deck to take photos, but the cold forced me to warm up inside every now and then. The crew of the boat is really nice and welcoming. There's free tea and coffee onboard, and you can buy other snacks. There's fish soup for lunch and it is excellent! the fishing part was fun, although sadly I didn't catch anything 😅Written 8 February 2025
- TonkaB40 contributionsNice boattripFantastisch staff, really rough sea, good and tasty soup, nice fishing but unfortunatelly we did not saw any wildlife at allWritten 4 February 2025
- Yana K0 contributionsGreat experience, marvelous Aurora show. The day we had initially booked this trip for the boat ride got cancelled due to cloudy weather, and we were offered either a refund, a bus or a boat ride on a different day. We choose the boat ride and didn't have issues with rebooking it. Our captain and crew were very friendly and relentless in seeking a good spot for the Aurora. We got very lucky in the last minute and were rewarded with an incredible Aurora show. It exceeded all we were hoping to be able to see. It was brilliant and vivid, so many colours. The boat we were on was a little bit older with a lot of wooden details which to us was very charming, and had free coffee, tea and biscuits onboard which was very nice of the company. Would recommend.Written 26 January 2025

- shawnrU1091DA0 contributionsExpensive but a great experience.Definitely more expensive than the others offering the same service. But the crew was very friendly, professional, and engaging. They tried hard to get us to numerous spots where the radar said there would be fish, engaged with our kids throughout, and made plenty of delicious stew with what we caught. I would recommend them!Written 14 January 2025
- Andrew K0 contributionsPoorly run companyTrash company that plans tours and cancels without letting you know. Will never recommend or use them again. Even emailed multiple times in advance to ensure the tour was still happening only to be cancelled on and finding out it was cancelled because no boat showed up to the meetup after hours of waiting.Written 13 January 2025

- jessicasB8283CH0 contributionsTHIS IS A SCAM BUSINESS! DO NOT BOOK.THIS IS A SCAM!!!! DO NOT BOOK!!!! PLEASE. I NEVER write bad reviews. I’ve been all over the world and this was by far the WORST travel experience I’ve ever had. Seriously - we booked our tour three months in advance. I confirmed twice before our tour date that we were still going. The company canceled, and are refusing to refund, after we had paid for transport to their site and almost $400 USD for the tour. I only found out the tour was canceled after we traveled across the world, waited at their site in the bitter cold and snow for 1.5 hrs, then no one showed up to their meeting point. WE WERE NEVER EMAILED, CALLED, OR FULLY REFUNDED US FOR THIS NIGHTMARE. I demanded a refund, the manager promised a refund, then said he would need ALL of my banking information (routing number, account number, my full legal name, bank name, SWIFT / IBAN number, etc.) to refund me. People were trying to drain my account!!!!! And yes, this was actually this ‘company’ - I booked directly through their site. Still waiting for my refund - I email three times each week, no reply… how strange! If this were legit, I’d have my money back. I paid with card and was told they couldn’t refund my card. So, in summary… DO NOT BOOK. THIS IS A SCAM. YOU WILL BE SCAMMED.Written 11 January 2025
- 476mariajoser0 contributionsAmazing day and tourThe day was truly magical!! we saw orcas, humpback whales , and even an eagle that came out to say hi. The weather was really good and we got cotton candy colored skies the whole way. Thanks again to Juan for explaining the importance these beautiful animals have! Lunch was also really good Would recommend!Written 11 January 2025
- _chad_carpenter0 contributionsUse extreme caution when booking with this company, do your research!!!This tour was cancelled on us with no reason and no dates available to re-book. The tour operator offered no reason to why this was cancelled last minute on us. We had this tour booked for 4 months in advance and for them to cancel on us for no legitimate reason is extremely sad and frustrating. Now it is too late for us to have a chance to book with anyone else. ***I would use extreme caution when booking with this company.*** We did get a refund and they only said they cancelled for reasons outside their control. I would understand if the weather was bad or something else but to just cancel on us for no reason is just bad business.Written 27 December 2024

I took this tour with my friend. We chose this company based on great reviews and that photos were included. We had one of the most memorable nights of our life. The tour started by being picked up in a minivan and meeting our guide and driver at 8pm. After about a 1.5 hour drive, our guides picked out the perfect spot to search for the Aurora. The Polar Adventures team had looked at the weather and picked out a location where there would not be any clouds for the evening. Our guide and driver stopped at a spot where we were able to spot the Aurora actively for several hours. I could tell the driver and guide were both very safety orientated when carefully selecting the perfect location for us. The tour operator supplied arctic jumpsuits, small chairs, and a fire. We drank hot chocolate and coffee and we ate cookies. We had a terrific experience. I recommend hot-hand hand-warmers, which were a lifesaver. Also a tip is to bring gloves with tech touch if you are taking photos with a cell phone. Our guide was an enthusiastic photographer and genuinely wanted to take as many photos as he could of the entire tour group. We received our pictures the next day - some of which are attached to the review. We saw the aurora dancing and it was magical! We were dropped off at our hotels safely around 1am. Thank you Polar Adventure for helping us check "Seeing the Northern Lights" off of our bucket list.

The tour was very well organized from the start till the end. At the meeting point, the guide Mr Hans assigned everyone/group into their respective minibus and after a short briefing, we set off for the tour. The driver was very skilled and Mr Hans was experienced and knew the spots where Aurora activity is likely to occur. We had our first sighting by the roadside about 45 mins into our drive and there were oohhs and ahhs from everyone. We then headed to Sommaroy beach to camp out and it was really cold; -4 degrees C. A nice fire was lit and Hans served us all hot coffee and cocoa with some biscuits. While we got warmed, he kept a look out with his camera and informed us when there was activity while regaling us with his interesting stories. With our naked eye, the Aurora will appear as grey streaks that does not move; the colors are only seen on the camera. We spent a good 2 hours on the beach waiting and did catch faint auroras every now and then. When we packed up and decided to leave around 11.15pm, Lady Aurora put on her best show. We spent another good 20 minutes or so before we headed back to the city centre; the driver dropped us off at our respective hotels. It was a dream come true for all of us that night. Hats off to the team who made this possible.

My partner, 2 our friends and I visited Tromsio for a special day trip only but it was honestly unforgettable.
It happened a long time ago but we will never forget that day. It happened on February of 2000 when we departed from Birmingham airport bound for Tromso in early hours. We travelled with a great late sir Patrick Moore, famous amaterur astronomer and host of Sky at night series on TV. He was incredibly friendly and took time to talk to all passengers. We had a photo taken with him.
Upon arrival we had a sightseeing of the city on coaches followed by sir Patrick's fascinating presentation about stars and facts of the universe in big university hall.
When the darkness fell, we were very excited and ready for a great experience going up the hill overlooking the city. Sky was clear, air fresh and cold, about -16°C. We witnessed a unimaginable spectacle in the sky in full glory. Aurora Boeralis was mainly green and moved like a professional dancer across the sky. Fantastic display of mother nature. It went on for hours.
All four of us and all our fellow travellers were queuing in the snow to see close by the divine Saturn, thanks to Sir Patric's great telescope located in the back of the restaurant in total darkness. Inside the beautiful building we had a roaring fire and hot drinks to warm up.
Seeing Saturn pretty close by was really incredible.
Previously, we have watched a short film about husky sleigh races and visited a husky farm as well.
Warmed up inside a traditional huge tent with entertainment and food and drink from local, friendly hosts. We had a free time as well. Our plain arrived back around 4 a.m.
That day was fabulous, action packed and most of all, we were so lucky to be able to enjoy the wonders of northern lights.
Perfect day to be fondly remembered.
Tromso is truly worth visiting.

This was the second tour I went on in a span of 4 nights, the overall experience wasn’t bad but when compared to the 2 other company tours I attended this one wasn’t the best hence the rating. Arctic Breeze and NLT tours are much better value wise and the sprinter van is much more comfortable. Our guide was very knowledgeable and taught me a lot regarding the northern lights unfortunately we saw very little of it, no fault on the guide, just not the best night. I genuinely felt our guides passion for the northern lights and he was trying his best to find a spot with a clearing but it was super windy and just not possible. It also sucks that you have to pay for your photos when other companies charge equivalent and give free photos; what’s worse is on the visittromso site it says 25 nok per photo but on the polar adventures site it says 50. I booked through GetYourGuide but I can’t even see their activity listing anymore, super shady in my opinion. Overall just don’t think they provide a good enough service when compared to the other vendors.

On reflection, the tour on the day we went should have been cancelled. Heavily snowing as we boarded the mini bus but off we went. In the end, we drove around for approximately 5 hours to see a small glimpse of lights that lasted no more than 5 minutes. The majority of the bus ride was in silence with little communication from guide who just said he didn't have a mic.
We stood on the side of a lake after several hours in the freezing cold in a break in the snow and saw the lights for a few minutes. Guide made a small fire and handed out hot drinks and a snack. Gave a small talk about lights. Bus driver refused to allow a child and elderly man to sit in bus with their drink to warm up. Closed the door on them.
Thermal suits were supposed to be available but no mention or offer of them.
Left when snow started again. Noone knew what was happening, whether we were returning to Tromso or continuing and no communication from guide.
Bus is very uncomfortable.
The 2 positives were the guide was determined to find any lights and they dropped people off close to accommodation instead of office.

We do not recommend Polar Adventures to our friends and family due to our disappointing experience. As experienced travelers who have visited numerous destinations worldwide and witnessed the Northern Lights on several occasions, we were dissatisfied with their handling of adverse weather conditions. Despite being aware of the unfavorable conditions, they chose not to cancel or reschedule the tour, apparently prioritizing financial gain over customer satisfaction. As a result, we were unable to see the Northern Lights, which was a significant letdown. Considering the substantial cost for our family of four, I would not recommend this particular provider.

In November 2024, I was with my wife in Tromsø, where we hired Polar to hunt at dawn. The day was with unfavourable conditions for it, a lot of rain and fog. We were afraid because the tour is not cheap and the weather was very bad. It was then that Thomas contacted and offered the possibility of cancellation; he showed us on the computer the weather conditions and said that it would be very difficult to see anything. We ended up canceling! I wanted to keep the honesty, attention and seriousness of the company recorded. It's a pity that the walk didn't happen. Thank Thomas and the Polar team.

We had high expectations for our tour with Polar Adventures, but unfortunately, the overall experience was quite disappointing. Before the tour, we tried reaching out multiple times to confirm whether it would be canceled due to the rain and snow warnings, but received no response. Even when we visited their office, the person present was unhelpful and simply stated that it wasn’t his job to answer phone queries.
On the night of the tour, the guide did put in a lot of effort to spot the Auroras, but the activity was low that night. While we appreciated her attempt, the energy and engagement fell short compared to other tours we’ve been on. Additionally, the campfire setup and overall management during the experience were poorly organized.
I did hope that they would atleast attempt to drive to Finland to view the activity but not sure why they did not do so.
I hope they improve their customer service and communication for future guests.

I was going back and forth between rating this 3 or 4 stars. I will also start by saying that the actual guides showed up in Get Your Guide coats, but since I booked this directly through Polar Adventures, I'm leaving the review here. I genuinely have no idea who the actual operator of this tour was.
I'm rating this with a 4 because we saw some amazing northern lights due to an unexpected solar flare. I honestly think this was just total luck, but I do have some constructive feedback for the tour overall.
We had this tour booked on our first night in Tromsø, and our last night in Tromsø. On the first night, we did not have great weather. We still arrived to the Polar Adventures office, which was listed as the meeting point in the confirmation. A woman opened the door and not even a "hello", she just looked at us and said "low chances tonight", and went back inside. Eventually she came back out and said there were low chances and I could get refunded, but I had to wait for someone else to get there. There were others waiting that were still going on the tour & she was still bringing stuff outside to pack into the bus, but we were pretty irritated and just requested a refund. The weather isn't her fault, but her attitude definitely is.
On our last night, we arrived again and were hoping she wasn't our guide. Even though the email lists the Polar Adventures office as the meeting point, they had us move to the Raddison Blu across the street anyway. There was a massive group of people waiting for this tour and the pickup was a little chaotic. They split us into 2 buses (luckily that same woman was the guide for the other bus & not ours). The bus was packed full, and there is no overhead space to put your belongings.
The guide did his best, although it seemed like he was newer at doing them. We did see absolutely incredible northern lights, but I believe this was just luck since it seemed that rather than going to different spots to look for them, they have a specific spot they go to. The quality of the pictures wasn't that great, I have better ones on my phone. I wish when he was taking pictures of us with the lights he would have reigned some of the other people in the group in, as they were all just in the background of everyone else's pictures.
Overall, I would not book this tour again. We also had 2 tours the 2 nights before this with a different company where we had such incredible experiences that this tour just fell totally flat in comparison.

It was dark and rainy all day and we had not expected to see anything before the trip… it then turned out to be one of the most memorable days of my life! Thanks to Hans Eric and Kris’ high professionalism, we were able to see a 45-min weak northern light at one area and a strong one at another spot!!

We were told that best time is end of. November - end of February. I would recommend you follow reports on geomagnetic activity. Even during these months there is no guarantee. We were told our experience was pure luck as they have not have so much activity in 4 years. On the same token there was a couple with us for the second night because the first night they only saw a sliver of lights! I guess pray for magic!

We loved the professional approach with a touch of local hospitality (the driver’s wife mede soup for us❤️) and their enthusiasm. I would definitely recommend!
