- Danielle V0 contributionsEnjoyable Day TripWe recently took a day trip to Budapest, and it exceeded all my expectations! The itinerary was perfectly paced, allowing ample time to explore the city’s stunning landmarks. The lunch recommendation was spot-on, offering delicious local cuisine in a lovely setting—it was the perfect break in our day. Our tour guide was exceptional—extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the city’s history, culture, and hidden gems. Their insights truly enriched the experience. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to make the most of a day in Budapest!Written 6 January 2025
- Douglas C0 contributionsA day well spent visiting a new capital city. The tour guide/driver was punctual, polite and knowledgeable. The drive to Budapest was peppered with historical references. Once in the city of Buda, we received an excellent tour of the castle district and enjoyed a coffee at the oldest coffee house in the city. The Pest side of the river provided us with not only beautiful views of the city, but provided additional history of the founding of the city and ample time to do some personal touring.Written 1 January 2025

- hienc420 contributionsHoping for a good tour and ended up with a completely wonderful experience! From the start, our driver/guide Belage (spelling?) was tremendous as he was friendly, accommodating, and informative. He doled out fun facts about Vienna, Austria, the Sound of Music and we even got some history lessons. Every stop was well coordinated and we had ample time at each one (although we would have like to have stayed at Sankt Gilgen longer since it was such a picturesque Alpine Village). At Salzburg, we met Maria, a local who was our guide through the town. She was a sweet lady who gave us great insights into the city, its history, and the Sound of Music. It is a long day, but definitely a tour that was well worth it!Written 29 December 2024
- 12aileend0 contributionsAmazing day trip to Prague!!My favorite day trip was to Prague!! Such a beautiful city that I will definitely go back. Linda, our local guide had so much information to share and brought us around to see as much of the city as she could in our allotted time. She gave us lots of tips and was willing to help and answer any questions we asked. Our driver Balazs was so kind and also shared lots of wonderful history regarding Austria and the Czech Republic. I would definitely use this tour company again when I am back in Vienna and would highly recommend them to anyone!!Written 28 December 2024

Was good for a sampler of Budapest as it takes 2 and a half hours each way so can’t expect to spend to much time at each spot did get 2and half hours free time. Thanks Marcus!Written 21 December 2024
- Julie K0 contributionsDon’t Miss This Excursion To Budapest! What a treat it was to finally see Budapest after hearing so much about it for so many years! Our tour guide Zoltan was wonderfully personable, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the day with — and his excellent driving and parking skills were truly a marvel to behold! The small group (5 total) and comfortable van made this longish excursion a very pleasant one — so glad we were able to squeeze this visit to Budapest into our travel itinerary!Written 9 December 2024
- Lainie0070 contributionsA good trip to get a taste of PragueMy tour guide and driver, Marco, was late on his way to pick me up for the day trip but he sent me a message via WhatsApp, which was appreciated. He was friendly and knowledgeable and a good driver. The drive is 3 1/2 hrs one way so expect to spend a lot of time in the van. Our local guide in Prague, Jane, was friendly and knowledgeable, but seemed more concerned that we shop from local businesses (perhaps they're all friends with her). She was knowledgeable about Prague, but we didn't visit some of the locations on our itinerary like Prague Castle. Also, when she was asked for recommendations for lunch she didn't have any specific places to point us to, she just told the us to go to Old Town. Keep in mind all restaurants and souvenirs shop are in Old Town and the walk back to the meeting point in the New Town was almost a 10 minute walk away from Old Town. This meant your free time is limited to eat, shop, and do what you like.Written 5 December 2024

Roman is such a passionate tour guide and shows his love for such hobbies through elegant way of speaking of which is easy to understand and is very intuitive on teaching about related topics, he also provides an excellent form of hospitality giving us free water to quench our thirst. Roman gives his own personal thoughts and recommendations on subjects and really helps us on the best and right places to visit or see. As I would like to go again and experience it once more as this journey throughout my holiday helped me make memories which I really enjoy! Well done to The White Alligator Tours ……Written 30 October 2024

If you have only a few days in Vienna but want to get out of town for one of them, as was my case, this may be also the perfect option for you.
I was on the same tour day as @Wander321952, 17 May 2022, as I recognize from photos they posted. (Hi, Folks! How was Hungary?) As they said, our chief tour guide, Marco, was outstanding, sharing interesting information about places we were passing and that we stopped at. He was also very considerate of everyone's needs, checking to see if anyone needed an extra rest stop on the way back and making recommendations for the small restaurant we stopped at on the way. Cristiana, our walking tour guide in Hallstatt, also helped shed informative light on the town's history.
It's not included on the one-hour walking tour, but I recommend that in your free time in town that you stop by the Hallstatt Ossuary by the Catholic Church, if time allows. Look it up. Fascinating. I had no idea such a thing existed there.
Thanks, folks, for an excellent tour day.

A fantastic tour from start to finish.
Peter was our tour guide and I’m so impressed with his range of knowledge. He mixed up the tour with really interesting facts of geography , history, music and all things interesting about Austria. I learnt a lot from his tour. I applaud him on this.
As mentioned in the itinerary, you visit all these beautiful places before going to Hallstatt itself and you have plenty of time to yourself to explore. Hallstatt without a doubt is stunning. It makes you realise how much natural beauty there is out there. A lot of pinch me moments. Do explore this place. I wish I stayed there for a night. You have a tour by a local to Hallstatt and she’s very good. Apologies I forgot her name. You won’t have time to do everything in Hallstatt. You have a choice to either go on a boat ride (extra cost) or go the top by cable cart (extra cost) to get a birds eye view. I chose the short boat ride which is stunning.
You get collected form your accommodation and dropped off. The ride there from Vienna and back was comfortable.
My highest commendation goes to Peter for being superb and I recommend the tour!

This is a beautiful area. The sky walk is really small and very crowded not worth going to top of salt mine for alone. But the views up there are amazing and there is a nice bar to grab a beer. This is a big touristy area as the town is a setting for a soap opera in asia area and it draws a big crowd of fans there.

This is a review for the services received, not the sights, offered through this tour. Without any doubt Hallstatt, and the rest of the beautiful towns in the Austrian Alps, included in the tour, are postcard-perfect. The time, allocated for each one of them was sufficient, and I didn't feel rushed. The driver and guide, Marcus, was friendly and knowledgeable.
However, the van, used for the trip is not ideal for the long distances covered in 12-13 hours. Yes, it is a small group tour, which is always preferable, but in my case the van was full to its maximum capacity (8 pax), and if you are unlucky to be sitting on the 3rd row, you will start feeling claustrophobic because of the tiny space, and very, very hot air(there is no A/C vent for the 3rd row; the first row had closed their A/C vents not caring how we, at the back, feel). It was bearable on the way to the destinations because of the number of stops, but the return trip was a bit of a nightmare- close to 4 hours in what felt like a prison cell.
I agree with one of the previous reviewers that the price is on the higher side for the services received (transportation only and a bottle of two of water). Would I book it again or recommend this trip? No, but I'd hire my own car and a driver for the day to see this stunning part of Austria.

Dear roamingworld,
thank you very much for your review.
We are sorry to hear that we couldn’t live up to your expectations.
We are pretty sure that if you would have mentioned to your driver/guide or the other Customers on board to change spots or turn higher the A/C, probably they would have done it without any problems.
In order to be fair and transparent with the Viator/TripAdvisor community, we would like to emphasize all the inclusion of the Hallstatt trip (besides the already mentioned “transportation only” and water availability):
- Pick-up at your accommodation in Vienna
- A driver/guide providing live commentary in English language along the trip
- Guided tour through different areas of the Lake Region (stop in different places)
- Guided walking tour in Hallstatt by a certified local tour guide
- Wifi on board
- Drop-off at your accommodation in Vienna
We wish you a great day from Vienna.
Kind regards,
White Alligator Tours Team

The town was gorgeous and we had a great experience along the way stopping at Unterach and St. Gilgen. Very beautiful scenery, but I will say that the 3 hour drive is a lot, and it’s even harder on the way back. Take this with a grain of salt because this was on day 10 or our 10 day Europe tour, so we were a bit burnt out by then. However I’d recommend doing a whole day in Hallstatt and spending a night there (a day and night is more than plenty of time, the town is tiny) so you can wake up to the incredible lake and mountains. Our driver Marco was a great guide, as well!

This trip has made me fall in love with Austria and want to come again as a bank holiday weekend just wasn't enough. Fernando was an excellent guide - punctual hotel pick up, friendly and open and as a small group of 3 solo travellers and a couple brought everyone together as a group so we felt like one small happy family. The ride to Halstatt didn't feel very long as he kept us entertained with conversation, anecdotes, jokes and also gave us space to nap at just the right times. Breakfast was excellent and he explained how it all worked.
The photo stops at the lakes were just stunning, and he gave us time at each stop and offered to take pictures for us all and took his time to make sure he got some good ones!
Halstatt is stunning, Fernando's build up of excitement and his love for the place didn't disappoint. 3 of us did the 1 hour walking tour with a local guide which is really well worth it to see all the highlights on the backstreets, but if you prefer you can choose to use your free time to go up the gondola instead or take the ferry ride and this was made very clear we were free to do as we wished.
Lots to see and do in Halstatt and places to eat, even some Roman ruins to find under a shop!
The ride home was also comfortable, one break midway and you'll be back in time for dinner. Everyone was dropped off at their hotels afterwards.
A fantastic day and the highlight of my trip to Vienna, thank you!

A beautiful day -- and a wonderful experience in Hallstatt. Roman was 20 minutes late for the pickup -- but we understood. We were put in the very back of the van where visibility was limited and it was very difficult to hear. Fortunately, after 3 hours, other guests agreed to rotate seating so the situation was a bit more fair. Roman should have made it clear from the beginning of the trip that guests are not assigned seats. If the seats are to be assigned, there should be a difference in price for the seats located in the cramped back row of the van. No air control or light.
In sharp contrast, Julia, our local guide in Hallstatt was very informative and helpful. Although he is very nice, Roman is unsure of his language and his historical information was given in a monotone, a slow pace and was very difficult to make out. He made a much appreciated effort at humor, but his pacing was so slow and unsure that nothing landed. I read my phone along the way to learn what I could about the locations. Unfortunately, there was no charger in the van and even with a backup battery, my phone was dead before the end of the trip.
After reading the reviews about the charming Fernando online, who peppered his lectures with personal tales and music -- I realized that the trip I thought I was taking was dramatically different. Don't get me wrong: the trip itself offers views of a stunningly beautiful countryside, but the guide was very average and for this price, it was a very long day to endure his extremely mediocre presentation.

Our small group was made up of 6 people from 3 different countries. Our guide Fernando speaks 4 languages and was able to smoothly switching between English and Portuguese so the entire group could understand him. Although the tour was over 13 hours long, the itinerary was full of breathtaking attractions and Fernando’s introductions and interesting stories made the tour that much more fun. This has to be one of the best tours that I have ever had.

So yesterday I had the most spectacular day. Visiting Hallstatt has been a dream of mine for many years and I certainly was not disappointed. My husband and I decided to take the plunge and book the tour with White Alligator tours and had a fantastic time. From pick up to drop off everything was perfect. The scenery was no more than SPECTACULAR and would highly recommend. There were many factors that contributed to the day, the weather, the company, the transport and our extremely knowledgeable guide Balazs. I can imagine it gets very busy in the Summer but do not miss out on the amazing views from the skywalk. It must be one of the most beautiful areas in the world. We sincerely did not want the day to end. A special thank you also to Helga and her passion for Hallstatt being a resident. We will certainly hold very fond memories of this day and can declare it our happy place. A huge thank you once again,

My wife and I took the day trip to Hallstatt with our guide Peter. The trip was well planned and Peter was a fantastic guide with a comfortable van. The Hallstatt visit alone would have been worth the price, but we stopped at a couple of towns and lakes along the way and Peter kept us informed (and entertained) along the way with background and history of Austria and commentary about current events. He was patient with my many questions and was flexible when members of our tour wanted to modify rest stops, etc. We had a separate guide in Hallstatt and she was also informative and accommodating and was quite helpful assisting some of us with purchasing tickets to some of the local attractions. The day was one of the best of our trip to Europe. We highly recommend this company.

Also, we don't know yet where our Viking ship will dock? Do you pick up from wherever the Viking ships are docked. Viking will not know the dock until right before arrival.
Thanks.

And how I can contact them by whatsup for asking question about the trip itself ?

Is there enough time to also include a boat tour of the island? If yes, please identify how long the boat tour would take and the cost. I would like to do a boat tour and the scheduled island tour, especially the tour of the Salt Mine.
