A nice surprise
Oct. 2021
Hofburg is an enormous complex of palaces, gardens and other sites. I set my mind on visiting the imperial appartments, but in the maze of Hofburg I didn't know where it was exactly situated. By pure chance I visited the imperial treasury first for the very simple reason that this was the only building that opened at 9h instead of 10h. I didn't regret my visit at all, my visit to the imperial treasury became the highlight of the day. The number of "treasures" that are shown here is downright impressive with a vast collection of different items, ranging from swords to tapestries. The audio guide costs a bit extra, but adds a lot of extra information making this a very complete experience. The only downside I can think of is that the opulence can become somewhat tiresome after a while.

Impressive treasures from the entire Empire
Jun. 2019
We went with our guide so he was able to get us in immediately. We may not have originally done this but we enjoyed the treasury at the Residenz in Munich. I will say this was even bigger with crowns and robes from Austria but also so many from its Empire. The Bohemian crown (Czech Republic) is here as it once was a part of the Austrian Empire as well as the most notable and historic piece of the collection the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire which belonged to the Habsburgs for 400 years. Finally there were simply other great pieces like a large religious piece made of Amber and silver with gold plate replica of the Mary Column in Vienna. We enjoyed a brief stay here to see the treasures of the Austrian Empire.

Nice collection
Dec. 2019
Taking a walk through the treasury is a nice way to spend an hour. The collection of jewelry and artifacts presented is quite beautiful. The crowds are also not so bad, even for as small of a building it is.

Well worth the visit
Dec. 2019
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the tour of this Hapsburg Treasury. There were fascinating items and the museum flowed well. The audio device was helpful but not as useful as at Schoss Schonbrunn. As other reviewers have mentioned, many of the exhibits are a bit dark. A visitor will appreciate this museum to the degree that they enjoy history of the period exhibited.

Ok for a rainy day activity
Dec. 2019 • Couples
There are some impressive gowns and regalia in this museum, but if you're expecting something like the English crown jewels it isn't that. A lot of religious artifacts as well as imperial regalia. All signs in German and English which is great. Overall, good for a quick visit, maybe an hour, but a bit overpriced for a small museum. Be aware also it's very dark, due to the age of the objects on display

Fascinating, beautiful, moving
Dec. 2019
I'm no expert on museum layout or Hapsburg history but I found this museum to be a wonderful place. They have artifacts on display near paintings of the king holding the artifacts which was fascinating to me. I had never seen an ermine cape before and didn't realize that the black marks on the cloak are the tails of the ermine. The ecclesiastical treasury was beautiful and fascinating. I always wonder whether what we are seeing is actually what they say but people certainly believed it and it is an interesting look at old Christian beliefs. For someone from the states, which are devoid of royalty and their trappings, this was a really awesome place. I highly recommend it.

This really is a treasure trove. They have gems and relics covering about 2000 years. Seeing the crowns and the "salieri" are just peak experiences from many, many wonderful moments. Highly recommendable.

An interesting diversion but no more
On a rainy day this is a ‘nice’ thing to do but I always had the feeling that the display could be so much better despite having some very spectacular pieces on display
