    What to Expect
Visit: Haus der Musik, Seilerstaette 30, Vienna 1010 Austria

Head inside the House of Music in central Vienna with your entrance ticket, and explore the vast sound museum at leisure. One of the cities quirkier museums, the House of Music is dedicated to the ‘science’ of sound as well as classical music itself.

Walk around the five floors of the museum at leisure, browsing the interactive displays and musical artifacts that abound. Download the free museums app to enjoy a museums tour if you wish, learning about renowned international composers as you explore.

Highlights of the museum include the historical archives of the Vienna Philharmonic where you can listen to a shortened version of their famous New Year’s Eve concert, and the Sonosphere on the second floor. The entire floor is dedicated to mechanics of sound, with countless instruments and interactive toys laid out to experiment with; it’s perfect for keeping the kids entertained!

If Vienna’s classical composers are of interest, then head up to the third floor to learn about their lives in the city and the music they created. The interactive virtual conductor exhibit is also found on this floor, so test your conducting skills by waving a baton along to a video of Vienna Philharmonic playing. You will even get feedback after having a go!

Your ticket allows you to spend as much time as you wish inside the museum, but most people find about two hours to be sufficient to see all the exhibits. The family booklet „Pauki Knaller“ which can be purchased at the museums ticket office is a colourful companion for kids on there dicovery through House of Music. It´s filled with terrific puzzles, fun games and facts on the great composers and offers instructions for handicrafts and games to play at home.

We visited today and were surprised by the number of people with young (5 and under) children. It is not a ‘hands-on’ place with only a few items to ‘touch’, there are headphones for listening and requires a considerable amount of reading. Consequently, younger kids were not

Dear Janinaeats, thank you for taking the time to write a review about your visit at the Haus der Musik. Actually we do have a lot of groups of children visiting the museum, mostly they start at Kindergarten-Age and continue when they are in school and have a specific guided tour for their age. They all enjoy their first steps into the World of Classical music, jump on the Piano-Stairs, play the Waltz Dice Game and learn about Mozart, for example. For families we offer a "Family Booklet" or a free special Family App where the are guided through the museum in an age appropriate way with riddles, games and stories. Also we have family tours at the weekends. I'm sorry if you didn't get the information at the entrance counter that we have all these offers for our youngest visitors when you were here with your family. In any way, thank your for your visit and sharing your impressions.

We originally wanted an opera or concert experience on either St Charles or St Stephens with a full orchestra, but we were convinced the 'Hous der Music' experience was the best by one of the many (very pushy) ticket sellers around. In the end, it was OK, but in hindsight

Dear n8th8n, I´m responsible for visitor complaints at the museum "Haus der Musik". I'm sorry that you had a disappointing experience at a concert of the Imperial Classic Orchestra and consultation by their sales person. I will forward your complaint to their management. Unfortunately you have posted the review to the wrong business, we are the museum of Viennese Classical Music and not the concert organization, they only rent a concert room at the same building. Anyway, I hope that you as a music lover will have the chance to visit our museum with interactive games and historical background infos on the great Composers of Vienna another time. Sending my kindest regards from Vienna, Regina

We spent several hours here with our kids aged 9 and 11. They adored the musical staircase, composing their own waltz and conducting the Vienna State Opera. The Physics of Sound area was interesting for adults and kids alike.
