2 Day South Coast: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, Glacier Hike & DC-3 Plane Wreck
From USD 423.40
Overview
Explore Iceland’s spectacular south coast on a 2-day tour with overnight accommodation that takes in the beaches, mountains, and wildlife of the Skaftafell Nature Reserve. You’ll hike on a glacier, check out a plane wreck on a striking black sand beach, and visit the Jökulsárlón Lagoon, where icebergs and seals bob in clear glacier water. Along the way, you’ll travel with a small group of like-minded travelers and a guide for an intimate and personalized tour.
What to Expect
Join an unforgettable two-day excursion to the Icelandic south coast; including Jökulsárlón (glacier lagoon), Skógarfoss Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Reynisfjara (Black Sand Beach), Skaftafell National Park, The DC-3 Plain Wreck and many others. Travel like true Vikings through lunar landscapes, where rivers roar through black desert sands and experience the countless natural splendors the coastline has to offer.  You will not be going on a normal tour, but an epic journey into a mesmerizing wonderland, where towering cliffs and menacing mountains loom over placid lava fields the centuries have enveloped in a soft blanket of pale green moss.

Over the course of two days, you will explore the ancient waterfalls that stand guard before the highlands, and the black sand beaches that adorn the southern coast.  You will voyage through the Skaftafell Nature Reserve towards the crown jewel of the south, the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.  You will have the chance to stand on an abyssal blue glacier, where you witness the merciless effects of global warming first hand. You will have the chance to see the abandoned DC-3 Plain Wreck in the middle of black sands.  You will have plenty of time to take in the views from the shore, or catch an optional boat ride into the lagoon for an up close encounter with the icebergs and the seals that swim around them.

This is a mini-bus trip that exposes you to experiences that are simply unparalleled to anything you will see on a large coach bus. To provide an intimate and personal service, you will travel in a small group composed of adventure-seeking travelers, and have an organized itinerary in a sequence that ensures you avoid the main crowds. Feel free to ask the experienced guides as many questions as you like, and you'll be rewarded with fascinating, and often fantastic knowledge about this Nordic island and the people who call it home.  This is a tour for those seeking to have a unique adventure, without missing out on the iconic attractions that have made Iceland one of the world's most treasured travel destinations. Remember that during the peak of summer, you will experience the midnight sun, whose soft light casts a natural filter no Instagram or photo app can replicate.

There’s a good deal of driving between sites, sometimes up to two hours. But if they’re ok with that they should be ok. The glacier hike is pretty easy, the biking was a bit tougher but probably doable for a child used to... More
