Itinerary

Stop At: Saga Museum, Grandagardur 2, Reykjavik 101 Iceland

The museum is located in the old harbour area. Opening hours are from 10:00 - 18:00 every day. At the museum you will find many of the legends from the Icelandic sagas, historical figures like Snorri Sturlusson, Ingolfur Arnarson and Leifur Eiriksson. Learn about the disastrous Black death, the most devastating pandemics in human history, which claimed anything between 75 to 200 million people. There are 17 exhibits on display today. Visitors have the choice to be guided through the museum with an audio device and can choose between Icelandic, English, French, German, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. The audio guide can also be bought in the form of a booklet at the front desk. Visitors also have the opportunity to dress up as vikings and try viking weapons and armour.

This was worth the visit as it was a semi-interactive venue. They provide head sets and you view various historic events and sites. It's also walking distance from downtown.

I wouldn't describe the tour as entertaining-but if you're into history, you'll really enjoy it. Some of the audio descriptions of the scenes can be a little too long. Fun at the end to dress up as a viking or sit on the horse statue and get some pics.

I had fun in this little museum! For such a small city to have a wax museum depicting the Sagas is pretty cool! The audio tour was clear and well done. Plus bonus, you can drink a beer while walking through the museum. It wouldn’t be my very first choice of things to do while in

Small wax museum wirth scenes from Icelandic history - some scenes were quite violent. Headset to guide you round. Perhaps 30 minutes to go round. Some mock weapons and clothes to try at the end. Walk to get there was further than our tourist map suggested.
