Your tour begins with a morning pickup from your Reykjavik hotel. Settle into the minibus for the drive south while your guide introduces you to the geology, history, and folklore of the small but fascinating country of Iceland.
Stop at the thundering waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss and, on a clear day, see the famed Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which caused international air travel havoc when it erupted in 2010.
The next stop is Reynisfjara to take in the unusual sight of a black-sand beach, as well as the surrounding basalt columns and towering sea stacks. During the summer months, look out for puffins and other seabirds nesting in the area. Take a lunch break here or in the neighboring village of Vík (own expense).
Next, head for Sólheimajökull glacier, one of the outlet tongues of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. Walk right up to the glacier’s edge and touch the ice. With luck, you might even find an ice-cave.
Your tour concludes with a drop-off back at your hotel.
