- annamariag4840 contributionsA Solo Traveler’s Dream: Food, Culture, and Laughter in Reykjavik! As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to experience the heart of Reykjavik than the Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour! Our guide, Magnus, was fantastic—his easygoing nature immediately put me at ease, and his unique sense of humor and wealth of knowledge made the experience both fun and engaging. The tour was so well organized, offering a perfect blend of traditional Icelandic dishes and fascinating stories about the city’s and country’s history. It felt like a personal introduction to Reykjavik, with each stop showcasing something special. This tour is a must for anyone looking to connect with the culture and flavors of Iceland. Highly recommended, especially if you’re exploring the city on your own!Written 7 December 2024
- Sd12440 contributionsWould reconsider in warmer weather. To be clear, the tour guide was a phenomenal story teller and is the only reason this tour received a 3 star. I thought the tour would be more local to the downtown in the city, showing more of the sights... even the catholic church we walked near we didn't have a opportunity to see the front if it... the weather was brutal and made listening very difficult.Written 6 December 2024
- afscardino0 contributionsAbove and beyond greatEinar took us on an incredibly fun tour telling us about the local history and topped it all off with how to create necropants - which I might make.. we’ll see. Einar was just the nicest tour guide we’ve ever had. He also sent us a bunch of links and info AFTER the tour that we asked about while on it without our asking. That was so awesome and above and beyond what we expected. I think I also need to mention, the night of our tour had rainy and cold weather, there were just two of us and it was not cancelled. Other tours, in an ‘off’ season with inclement weather, may have. That says so much for us and we were very grateful. Again, such a great time. I cannot recommend this enough. I’d give Einar 6 stars if I could.Written 3 December 2024
- F4408DCemilym0 contributionsInteresting and engagingWe really enjoyed the folklore tour with Einer on a Friday afternoon. The stories and legends he told us were very interesting and we loved the Icelandic songs. Einer was very friendly and engaging and made the tour even more interesting!Written 30 November 2024
- X2954ZWdavidd0 contributionsFood tour - paulyWe went last week. It was just my husband and I. Pauly was our guide. We devided to book it as soon as we landed and it was a great experience. We were so full at the end. Very good insights on places to go, see, try. I enjoyed going to the market and getting recommendations or information on items we are not familiar with. I highly recommend specially if this is the firat time in a new town.Written 30 November 2024
- robertmB22QE0 contributionsThe Folklore Tour is a Fun Stroll Around ReykjavikOur group took the Folklore Walking Tour November 20, 2024. Construction around the meeting point forced a location change. The tour organizers handled it smoothly by sending out early notice and following up with a reminder that included Google Maps guidance. Our terrific guide, Einar, gathered us at the meeting point and clearly mapped out our tour. Einar clearly enjoys his work as he injected his story telling and historical fact checking with humor and dramatic expression. He made what could be dry story telling quite enjoyable. It was especially nice to see how personal the tour was for him as we walked past his family home and visited the cemetery where some of his family lay. That added a human touch not seen on most tours. Ask for Einar if you want to see Icelandic folklore come alive with drama and humor. Plus, you will learn how to raise your own zombie servant.Written 29 November 2024
- cvestevez0 contributionsYou really feel the spirit of storytelling in Iceland on this tourEinar was the nicest guy we met in our entire trip. He has so much depth. His passion for sharing and passing on his cultural heritage was very special, and he ends the tour on such a heartwarming note that is much appreciated. He gives you the most important gift which is our common humanity despite being worlds away.Written 29 November 2024
- AliceVixi0 contributionsA tour from a guide with a big heartWhat a lovely host Einar was, he poured his heart into our tour as he told us about the food he grew up with, showed us around, and sang his grandma’s songs to us. He’s passionate and truly felt like meeting a friend yesterday.Written 28 November 2024

- lukebZ1682EL0 contributionsCreepy and Interesting, A Good MixEasily one of the best ghost tours I have been on. So this is not strictly a ghost tour as the name suggests but the mixing of folklore and ghost stuff works really well. It is both fascinating and scary at different times and it helps to keep it interesting by flipping between the two.Written 28 November 2024
- nele_vdgs0 contributionsWonderful cat walk of Reykjavik 🐈⬛🐈This was a fun walking tour. Bardi was our guide, a true cat enthusiast and connoisseur. He told cat themed tales and took us to different shops in hopes of finding resident cats. The cat cafe was perhaps my favorite. All in all a lovely time, would recommend 😇Written 26 November 2024

Had a great walk with Snædís in a typical cold Icelandic afternoon. I ended up being the only person so I had a private tour. We walked around the city center and Snædís will stop at different locations and tell you all the secrets and tales of the city, culture, history and language. I learnt a lot and feel like I can properly talk about the city like locals - just kidding! Also you will get a couple pictures taken and receive recommendations on restaurants to try. Highly recommended!!

We could not recommend this walking tour of the city more. Our guide, Esther, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. She walked us all over the city explaining the history, culture, and providing interesting anecdotes. This walk is a must to start your visit to Iceland as you will recall and use the information learned numerous times as you travel about.

We had a fabulous time on our walking tour with Bardi Gudmundsson. Our group was small - only 4 people. Bardi's pace was perfect. He was personable, interesting, and very friendly. Even though this was our third visit to Reykjavik, we learned many new things from this tour. Highly recommend this tour as a way to start off your trip - to get oriented to the city - though it would be enjoyable at any point along your stay!

We arrived in Iceland jetlagged but excited to begin our visit to this magical country! To get our bearings, our first adventure was the "Walk with a Viking" tour, with Your Friend in Reykjavik. Our guide was the amazing, enthusiastic PERLA, whose energy buoyed us on our walk.
Perla showed us around major historical sights like the elf stone in the old section and Parliament; City Hall with its huge map of Iceland; the Harpa concert hall, open to the public with great restrooms (her pacing was well-timed); the most famous hot dog stand in town (really!); the harbor where we could book boat tours; and ended on the steps of iconic Hallgrimskirkja cathedral, overlooking the old part of town.
Along the way, she regaled us with stories of important people in Iceland's past and present, revealed intimate details like the spot in Parliament's garden where one can take a lunch break, and pointed out places to shop, eat, and spend a bit more time. It really was like strolling around with a friend.
This tour was the PERFECT start to our vacation! We finished it knowing our way around Reykjavik and well-prepared for the rest of our stay!

The walking tour was really great and it was my first tour the day I landed in Iceland (Reykjavik).
Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed the city around of all the important places and told the history of Iceland.
Also provided with stays and suggestions on shopping and eatary places too.
Would highly recommend if you are on the first day of the trip for few hours and explore other destinations within Iceland.

What a wonderful tour we had on Saturday, June 19, with Stefan! He was extremely knowledgeable and gave us quite an overview on Reykjavik, with some added personal experiences. Stefan was friendly, yet professional. Our favorite parts of the tour were our “Viking” arriving on a electric scooter 😀, and the stories about the elves (Yes, we believe). W’d highly recommend this tour for anyone who would enjoy learning the history of this lovely city.

My husband and I had a great morning with Bardi as he took us round Reykjavik. Bardi is an excellent guide and storyteller. We learnt so much as we walked round and even managed to see a rehearsal for a concert. The tour was very interesting and entertaining and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as part of a visit to this amazing and fascinating city.

This was an excellent introduction tour to Reykjavík and Iceland in general. Only lasts about 2 hours or so and the guide simply takes you walking around to show you the main points of interest in Reykjavik. It’s exactly what we wanted to do and our guide Oli was a superb tour guide. He did a great job taking us to all the planned stops and talking to us about Reykjavík, its history, and about Iceland in general while also pointing out to us some good food spots or other places to check out later. This was a solid 5 out of 5 experience for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and I highly recommend this as a introduction type of activity for anyone on their first day in Reykjavík.

We did this on the evening of the day we arrived and it proved to be an invaluable experience. Our guide was the fabulous 'Bo'. We learnt so much about the history of Reykjavik from him, as well as being provided with some great tips on places to eat and to visit while we were in the city. No question was left unanswered, it was quite simply fascinating. During the 2 hours Bo told us stories about the history, the people and shared facts in an entertaining and often humorous way to make everything really interesting. We'd definitely recommend this excellent tour to anyone visiting Reykjavik and, if possible, make it your starting point because what you'll learn will help you make more of your time there.

My friend is specifically interested in Viking history. The tour is called "Walk with a Viking" but in reading reviews, I'm not seeing any mention of Viking history being included in the tour. Is there any? Is it a focus of the tour? Thanks!

Hi JimandMarty. I don’t think that the tour particularly focussed on this, sorry.

Looking at your walking tour on September 7. We are staying at the Arctic Comfort Hotel. How would we get to the starting-point for the Walking Tour? Is it close to the hotel? How should we dress for the Walking Tour? What is the weather like in early September? Thank you.
