Overview

Ideal for adventurous travelers, this 11-hour tour allows you to discover the frozen wonderland of the Sólheimajökull Glacier during a guided hike. Departing Reykjavik, you’ll delve into the crevasses and caves that comprise the glacier, using crampons and ice axes to discover hard-to-reach pockets. See, too, the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls on your way back to Reykjavik, and enjoy the convenience of round-trip transport from your hotel. Small-group tour limited to 12 participants.

What to Expect

Your tour begins with pickup from your Reykjavik hotel at 7am, when you’ll board a climate-controlled vehicle destined for Iceland’s south coast.

Following a scenic 2.5-hour drive to the Sólheimajökull Glacier, you’ll disembark the vehicle and receive an introduction to the safety gear you’ll be using. Then, once your crampons are securely fastened and your ice axe is in hand, you’ll set off on a 1.5-hour hike of the glacier.

Delve into frozen crevasses, discover hidden caves, and marvel at streams of bright turquoise water as you learn about the glacier’s development over time.

Your next stops are the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, two of 20 waterfalls that pepper the lush banks of the Skógá River. The tour concludes with hotel drop-off around 6:00pm.
