Amazing views, well organised tour, highly recommend.
Fantastic trip, early start but well worth it. Our guide Thomas was full of information on the trip there, ensuring everyone knew how the day would go but also importantly he set expectations correctly that it could be a tough walk. Thoroughly enjoyed it, the views and scenery were amazing! Good shoes are a must, and don’t worry about taking lots of water as there are places to fill up on water throughout from the springs. Highly recommend

          Don’t miss this trip out!
If you are located near Chania, don’t miss this out! It was a fantastic experience. The trip was very well organized from start to finish. It started by picking us up from our hotel at 5:50 in the morning. The road to Samariá was beautiful. The first stop it’s a restaurant where you can get some food. You can buy the tickets easily from the website, so you can skip the line. It costs 5 euro per person. Also at the restaurant the guide will collect the tax for the boat (13 euros). We arrived at Samaria around 9 o clock. You have plenty of time to cross the park, until 16:30. The meeting point will be a taverna called Kri-Kri. There you’ll get the tickets for Sugia, the place where the bus awaits you to get you back to the hotel. We arrived around 21:00. So it’s truly a very long day, but I can assure you it’s worth it. Also the guide named Nikos was very friendly and informative. He made good jokes and everything went well with him.

          Amazing hike
Well organised tour. Picked up on time in a good quality, comfortable bus. Guide Sarah gave a very detailed description of the hike ahead of us and timings for each of the checkpoints to ensure we made it through in time for the ferry trip back. This is not an easy hike, it is long with a very steep descent. Whilst it is not so challenging on your cardio fitness it is very hard on your knees , calves and feet with the constant downhill over the first 3-4kms . Recommend good hiking shoes. We are a couple in our late 50’s and it took us 5 1/2 hours to reach the village. Once at the village the swim in the Libyan sea is very refreshing but be warned the black pebble beach is scorching hot.

          My Thoughts
Okay this is going to be a long review. Firstly, the company are fantastic! The pickup was super easy and the tour guide was lovely, informative and enthusiastic. They sort out the ferry tickets aswell which is super helpful. How the day works: Pick up around 6am > Travel to a cafe near the gorge for breakfast and to pay for the ferry (13 euros each) > Head to the gorge > Pay 5 euros entry > Start the hike > Once finished there is a beach with cafes, shops etc > Meet the guide at 4:30 in a specified location to collect ferry tickets > Get the ferry at 5:30 > 1 hour > Meet the coach > Drop off > Home about 9pm. As you can see it is an incredibly long day. Now for the hike: Context- Me and my partner are both 21 and we go to the gym about 3 times a week. Neither of us walk particularly far and we don't do cardio or walking training. The first 3km are pretty similar as you begin the descent. There are a lot of stones and steps but this is quite easy if you watch your step and take your time. Lots of nice views. 3km to 6km was long it felt much longer than 3km and was winding all the way. At 6km i thought we must have been at 8km if not more. Around the 4th km there was a section where we had to climb down some rock and climb up another- i think there might be a way around this but im not 100%. This wasn't easy but manageable. 6km to 8km was okay, some nice views, some easier sections some harder. 8km to 9km was flat and easy with pretty views. 9km to 13km was tough very rocky and hard to get footing at times but stunning views. 14km was just a straight line. After the 14th you can get a bus to the beach for 2 euros or you can walk a further 2km. We could not hack the extra 2km. Overall, it was highly worth it and was a brilliant experience but a very difficult one. I have no idea how children managed it to be honest. The views were great and the stream was so nice and cold and drinkable. Another factor that i never thought about before hand was that you have to constantly look down at your feet so to look at the views you have to constantly stop which isn't the best. The hike took us 6 hours to complete we both ended with blisters and my legs/ankles hurt the following days. I would not say this is an easy hike, it was the first one i have done, but it was worthwhile as long as you are prepared for its difficulty. I am sure there are much harder hikes and this may seem easy but for a novice hiker it was hard. My top tips: take light snacks, shoes with ankle support and thick soles, obviously a water bottle, my saving grace was a wet towel which i wore from the 6th km onwards and it made it so much better.

Awesome tour operator!!! Great excursion! Sara was awesome :)
Amazing amazing experience. Booking was easy and reliable. Pickup customized to client’s hotel with on time pickup. Our tour guide “Sarah” was extremely clear and informative with a humor that was appreciated by all. The hike is moderate to severe downhill x 5 hours and she gave clarity on injury prevention and hydration - a WOW!! Highly recommend this tour operator and WISH i would have booked my other tours with them over Viator.

          Amazing day-trip experience!
We did the Samaria Gorge day trip with Elafonissos Travel and it was the best day from our short stay in Crete! The trip was perfectly organised from A to Z. We were the first to arrive at the starting point and the first to leave at the end of the day. Special thanks to our guide Thomas! He took great care, explained everything properly with a sense of humour, and was the main reason for a day perfectly spent in the mountains and on the shore. We did the hike on 4 and a half hours, and had plenty of time to enjoy the crystal cooling water of the Libyan sea. I recommend you to pack a pair of flip-flops or hiking sandals for the beach because the sand is black and literally burns your feet. High five to the whole team, we strongly recommend the tour!

          amazing experience⭐️
my friend and I had the best time! The experience was very smooth, however we feel as though the money spent was for the transportation. I would definitely recommend booking through this company, the advice and preparation the tour guide offered on the bus was very helpful and allowed us to have a structure to our experience which we wouldn’t have initially. As two young girls, we haven’t done anything like this before and they made us feel very relaxed and comfortable!! Thankyou so much x

          Professional and friendly.
Very professional and well organised trip. Picked up from outside the hotel as promised ( but oh so early in the day), taken through eagle soaring mountain roads, stopping for time to get some breakfast and supplies, delivered to the start point in time for 8 am start. Met again at the base at 4 pm, hour’s ferry cruise and the winding coach back, dropping off at the hotel at 8.30pm.

          Great hike
Great hike through the beautiful views of Samaria Gorge. The bus trip was well organized and our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. The pick up from and the drop off to our hotel were also a big plus. We finished the hike a bit faster compared to the big group so we spent couple hours on the beach.

Best part of my trip to Crete
Sara was very friendly and great guide. You are left to hike at your own pace with Sara at the back of the group, in case someone gets injured or something. We were also one of the first tour groups of the day to arrive so the trail was less crowded. The views are unforgettable. I would HIGHLY recommend (:

          Samaria Gorge hike
This definitely made my Samaria Gorge hike smoother and more accessible. There is a lot of logistics needed for that hike and my tour was smooth and let me focus only on the hike and enjoying myself. I want to shout out our guide Nykos and bus driver Apostolos. Nykos gave clear information and even offered rentals of hiking sticks, you can tell he knows the gorge well and even tells you where you can fill your water up throughout the hike. Our tour was also very timely, we arrived before other tours which I was thankful for as it allowed us to get ahead start and beat and keep pace ahead of many other hikers as the hike can get crowded. I enjoyed my hike mode for this reason as well.

          Loved this hike
We really wanted to hike Samaria Gorge while in Crete and are so glad we did. The views are amazing and it is definitely a challenge. Our guide (Nicolas) was very good. He gave us lots of information about Crete and the gorge on the way up. The only downside is the wait and travel time after the hike. It was very windy when we arrived in the town, so it was difficult to find things to do for 3 hours. The only ferry leaves at 5:30 and then it is a long, winding bus ride back. Still worth the experience, but good to be aware of up front.

Superb day of hiking with perfect tour!
Great hike! Doable unless you have knee issues or are not fairly fit and healthy! Elafonissos Travel did an excellent job! Clearly communicated the pickup spot, got us to the start early so peaceful trip and through the gorge before it was too hot. Thomas was a great guide, explained the trip, had our ferry tickets when we needed them. The bus driver provided a safe trip on a challenging road! Would not use any other provider!

          What a Trip
I had been planning to do the Samaria Gorge, but wasn't quite sure how I could complete the linear trip by myself. The tour offered by Elafonissos Travel solved my problem. Was picked up by coach at 5:35am from my hotel in Agia Marina and then we collected other hikers before setting off for the mountains. 47 in the group. Nikos, our guide, explained everything and got us prepared for the day ahead. I especially enjoyed the background history that he provided about Crete's history, the Gorge and the Kri Kri goats. After a short stop for toilets and breakfast we then launched straight into Samaria Gorge. 5 euro entrance feee for the gorge, which provides funds to look after the gorge. Rangers were located along the length of the route to assist, there were regular water springs to refill bottles, and even toilets at several locations. The trail was really well kept and the rangers did a great job of keeping it free of litter. At the end of the walk you have a chance to get something to eat and drink in one of the many taverns at Roumelli, and you also get a chance to cool off with a swim in the sea. Nikos organises the ferry tickets from Roumelli to Sougia (13 euros) and hands these out about 1 hour before the ferry leaves at 5:30pm. Coach was sat waiting in Sougia when we arrived on the ferry and we eventually got back to Chania around 8:00pm, with drop offs finishing around 9:00pm The coach driver was Manoli, and he was obvioulsy a very experienced driver who knew the roads well, which made for a smooth journey. Nikos looked after us throughout the whole day and made us all feel part of the group. I would highly recommend this trip with Elafonissis Travel. Be sure to bring a fully charged camera as you won't stop taking photos throughout the day.

        Gorgeous beach!
We booked a coach trip to Elafonissi beach via our hotel, this cost €29 and took an hour and 20 mins to get there.
We stopped at a local honey factory on the way which had a great cafe with stunning views over the mountains.
We arrived at the beach by 11:00 and the coach parked at the top of a hill outside a shop where you could get snacks and drinks etc.
it was a 10 min walk down to the beach via a stone road.
The beach has toilets that cost €1, showers and changing shacks.
There was also a cafe on the beach which was reasonably priced.
The beach is gorgeous, nice sand and crystal clear water. The first part is a lagoon which was great for families as it is very shallow.
We walked across the lagoon over to the island which was mind blowing, pinkish sand from the coral and shells with gorgeous clear waters!
We did some snorkelling around the rocks, we found a few varieties of fish and the tiniest shells I had ever seen.
        Amazing beach!!

The trip was great and the price was fair.

The 1st stop was in Elos, it is a village very high up on the mountain. On the way we also passed by many Greek villages and the view of the cliff was incredible. We always love the sea of Greece but the mountain of Greece is absolutely mesmerising too. There is a cafe in Elos, you can just chill there for breakfast, but you can also go up to the Agia Sofia Cave. The stairs were tiring, but it was not too bad (took us about 6 minutes to go up). I think it was totally worth it. The cave is very beautify itself and there are even birds flying inside.

The 2nd stop was Elafonisi Beach, it was totally worth going, though the 20-minute-walk to get to the beach was very exhausting, especially with the heat. It was pretty much impossible to get a sunbed, because there were very limited sunbeds. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to buy an umbrella, but for us it was alright, with the wind the heat was manageable, and we spent most of our time swimming—however, the sea there was extremely shallow, we couldn’t really swim because it was not deep enough (the water only reached our waist). And the sand: YES, the sand is PINK, but only some sands are pink and most of them are white, but it was still very pretty.

The 3rd stop was a restaurant very very high up on the hill. The view was incredible and the food was really good, but as a “self-service restaurant” the food choices were very limited.

I recommend this day trip! It was very fun for my boyfriend and I :)

However, if you don’t like being on a bus for a long long ride, this trip might not be the best for you. Especially in the beginning they will be picking up everybody. We were the first ones in the bus, so we spent an hour just watching them picking up people. On the road, the view was really really great so I enjoy the bus ride. ALSO, if you HATE walking, it might be difficult for you, especially the walk to Elafonisi Beach.

The pink sand is definitely overrated as there is only a thin band of it that runs along the shoreline. However- you will not be disappointed. This is the best beach that I have been to: beautiful water, safe to swim in and the biodiversity is extraordinary. When the tide is lower, mini lagoons form. When I went, one of the lagoons had lilac water! I could swim quite far out without it getting deep but still remain careful. Some areas are more rocky.
I recommend swimming around the rocks, you will see amazing animals. One of the big rocks close to the beach have over 10 species of fish of an assortment of colours, even baby fish! One of the best features of Elafonissi beach are the fish.
Come here as early as possible, best 6am so you can get sunbeds and it isn't too hot yet. Many areas are safe for kids as it is very shallow as long as you don't go too far out.
Caution of the way to get there: the mountainous roads are precarious and scary. The walk from a car park to the beach is far too and possibility of fainting while walking between is possible.
Overall, this beach is totally worth it!

Horrible experience with this company. The beach itself was beautiful but I’d recommend just booking the bus ticket yourself (it’s also cheaper, 20 € there and back and despite what they say there is in fact no admission to enter the beach). Transport never showed up, when I tried to contact the host to ensure I was in the right spot I got no answer. According to locals I was at the right pick up location however since my messages went unanswered I will never know exactly what went wrong. I attempted to get refunded, however unsurprisingly my messages again went unanswered. Do not book this through trip advisor, but I do highly recommend this beach.

Dear Emma, We just read your review and we would like to apologize first of all for this uncomfortable situation. The day of the excursion our guide called you several times in the tel.number you have given on your booking request, with no answer from you. Also, you comfirmed that you have understood the pick up point location a day before the day of the excursion. We received some messages to our platform from you at 06.00 am when our office was closed. If you wish, we could send you our GPS bus location to see that we were on the spot at the time given. Despite everything, we are glad you enjoyed the beach, even if it was not with us.

They came to pick us up 15 minutes earlier than scheduled. Then we were told we are 2 groups and we had to wait in the bus 30 minutes (same when we picked them up at the end of the trip) while the other group disembarked for their trip at the harbor.
We took a break at an overpriced cafe in the mountains, where we were given 35 minutes for coffee or to climb 250 stairs to see st Sophia's cave, so basically you didn't have time to do both.
Then after a long long ride we arrived at the beach that isn't pink at all and we had to walk on foot a long way to reach it. The beach is very crowded and the water is very shallow, so if you're looking for a good swim, this beach isn't for you. It isn't anything special if you've seen a beach in your life..
After we got back to the bus, the driver brushed my beach bag with a broom head, supposedly because it had sand on it (it didn't).
Then i got into an altercation with another tourist on the bus who was standing on my sandals that i left on the floor of my seat prior to the beach trip. They were insisting it's not my seat since my name is not written on it. I would suggest you tell tourists that if someone leaves something on a seat/on the floor of the seat, the seat is taken, otherwise they can sit wherever they want. I found this tip from another guide very helpful on another trip i took in Crete.
Then we stopped in a village at a local tavern, where we were given 40 minutes to either visit the village or eat at the tavern, but not everything on the menu, because it would take too long to cook. And again, you had to choose between these activities, which honestly, wouldn't have been necessary if we didn't have to wait at the harbor for the other group. The food was really good though, and the prices were decent.
Finally, no matter how cheap this trip might seem, it's not worth THE TIME at all. Crystal clear water and white sand on the beach but nothing worth wasting a day of your holiday.

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy the tour. Generally we inform our guest if the bus is running either early or late as we consider it appropiate for our guests to be informed. Regarding the stops in the description is says that we do the following stops: Elos 30 minutes for breakfast Elafonissi 4 hours Amigdalokefali 45 minutes for lunch As s service to our guest we have changed the breakfast stop to a stop at the cave of Agia Sofia so that there are two options, either to eat breakfast at the cafe or to visit the cave. Additionally the stop has been changed to 35 minutes. At Elafonissi we had a stop for 4 hours and 5 minutes on the day you joined the excursion. The stop on our way back was in Elos in stead of Amigdalokefali. Again this change has been made to provide different options for people who do not wish to eat, as there are a few more thing to see in Elos. The stop was 45 minutes, as our program says. When there are less participants on the two excursions Elafonissi and Balos, these two excursions can be served by one bus, as it is on the same way and we only spent maximum half an hour extra leaving and picking up the guest for the Balos tour. All this without changing the program of the Elafonissi tour as you can see above. As for the walk to the beach, it is 900 meters through the protected area where the bus is not allowed to enter. This is not something that we can do diffently unfortunately. There is a shuttle bus that our guide will arrange for emergency cases, people who have difficulties walking (elder, small children, pregnant). So we do not take advantage of this shuttle bus when not necessary. Last, we apologize for the inconvenience caused with your seat on the bus. We will keep your suggestion for our future excursions. Thank you very much, Elafonissos Travel team

This day trip was incredible. Me and my friend hopped on the bus at 8am and we were met with an amazing host Simona. She gave us so many stories and told us so much history about Greece and Crete, it was very informative! We stopped somewhere for a small breakfast and a little hike to a cave. Amazing. Then we hoped back on the bus and went to Elafonsi and that was the best beach I’ve ever been to in my life. It had pink sand, a the bluest blue water. We were blown away by the view and we got so many amazing photos!! Then we went on a lovely drive back to Chania, we stopped at this lovely restaurant with the most amazing view of the edge of the island of Crete. And then back to drop us off. Well worth the money and Simona was amazing, she was so knowledgeable and so so lovely giving us recommendations and tips for our future travels, she even pointed us in the direction of this lovely old man who has his own homemade food stall. We bought some olive oil and honey and they were both the best thing I’ve ever tasted! I bought extra to bring back to my family. He grows the bees right there at Elafonsi and he was just so lovely, you could see the hard work he puts in. All up such a worth while day and would definitely recommend

We are French does not speak an English word and even less Greek
        Completely set aside
The interpreter ( Simona ) spoke in are microphoned throughout the trip and even when it wasn't in the microphone with Greeks who was right next to us at last non stop.... we were Completely lost they understand nothing of the program because she explained what was planned at each stop.
Brief... 1 hour by car to pick everyone up... after pti already or visit the cave then at noon we arrived at the beach said with pink sand lolll
I'm still looking for it (but pretty anyway) and there you don't know if you should eat where not (for lack of language) after 4 hours of beach so it's 4pm we bring in so-called a great restaurant 2 cars arrives at the same time so it's salad or omelet
Wow superrrr restaurant at 4 in the afternoon
We also had to visit a small village nothing seen 🙈 of that
In short, they should review their organizations
And make a little effort for French tourism

Thank you for your review! Our tours are provided in English to serve the many nationalities that are participating. It is also mentioned on viator when you make the booking. As for the last stop in Elos, it is a small traditional village, so there are a few things to see for those who want to go sightseeing. The other option is the taverna that we recommend, which is quite popular, so it happens that it is busy. But their menu is really big with plenty of home cooked dishes. We apologize for the misunderstanding, because there is not only salad and omelettes available, otherwise it wouldn't be nice to recommend it as a place to visit.

So worth it! Beautiful landscapes, crystal clear waters, pink sand indeed, many goats along the way! Excellent driver and very insightful guide. The rest of the tour other than elafonisi was still amazing with great opportunities for memorable views and experiences. Overall 10/10!

Ps the restaurant at the last stop was delightful with panoramic views and delicious, fresh and very affordable meals.

I read the negative reviews and was a little worried. But it is totally worth it. The waters are turquoise and the perfect temperature and rhe sand is pink. I wouldn't suggest going just for the sand however, as it is hard to tell. You can see it in professional photos and life, but you can't really take a good photo. It is decently windy, but this is a bonus because you don't get too hot. If you're here after 10 you probably won't get an umbrella, so buy one at a shop ahead of time which lots of ppl do. Don't eat there as it takes it too much time, the tours stop ahead of time and afterwards so buy food ahead of time because of the long lines. Good amount of time on the tour which gives you 4 hrs. It takes 30min to change/use the bathroom. So plan that time in to go change at 2pm if your bus is leaving at 2 30pm. Overall, yes the beach is busy but the beach is huuuuugggeee so it doesn't feel that busy. Cross the lagoon/inlet to the peninsula to have more space and room. Totally worth it for a great day at the beach and to swim in safe, shallow waters that are brilliantly clean and clear.

A very well organized trip by a very professional travel agency. The schedule was on point. For us the trip started at 8:25 by picking us up from our hotel (Althea Village) using a Mercedes minivan. After that we embarked on a big bus which picked up the other people. The bus stopped to the Kissamos port, where some of the passengers had to take the boat to Balos and Gramvousa. We left quickly in order to get to our first stop, a place with a very nice view where you can take your breakfast or you can take the stairs to the cave, The Wisdom of God. You can’t do both so choose carefully. Me and my friend had breakfast to our hotel and we went to the cave, where there s no fee, but you can donate some money.

We arrived at Elafonissi around 12, where we had plenty of time to enjoy the beach. To see such a crystal water was truly magical. The mountains too were so beautiful. Don’t forget to bring your own umbrella, because by that time all the sunbeds are taken. Of course you can buy umbrellas from the local store, but it’s better to be prepared. The departure was established to 3:45, at the same meeting point, the parking.

We left Elafonissi and the view was simply stunning, with all the mountains surrounding you. It was so beautiful. The final stop is a tavern where you can enjoy some food.

We arrived to our hotel around 19:00.

All in all, I don’t think this trip had any weak points. From start to finish it was perfect.
