A private glimpse into the history, culture, food and wine of Portugal
Highlights: A tremendous and highly customizable tour experience. Andre brings a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge mixed with an immersive experience of local foods and wines to provide an unforgettable experience of his home country. More importantly, his passion for Portugal and for providing a 5-star experience, shows in everything he does, from how he communicates to the immaculate condition and details of his black car service, to the level of depth and detail of his tour. It was easily the best tour experience we’ve had from around the world. Details: Following a business trip in Lisbon, my wife and I reached out to Andre for a proposal on how we could best spend 4 days of personal time to maximize our experience in Portugal. Based on the time we had, we drafted a very detailed itinerary of how best to use our time, complete with experiences of history, culture, food, and wine. We exchanged a number of messages to finely tune the itinerary to our interests which made it clear in the planning process that we were partnered with the perfect consultative fit in Andre. Our tour left from Lisbon, where Andre was early and waiting for us in his pristine Mercedes van (a trend we noticed every day of our time together). We got to know each other as we made our way out of the city towards the direction of Porto. His warm and outgoing personality was immediately evident and his English was so flawless, we would later observe locals complimenting him on his Portuguese, not realizing he was local. We made a few different stops along the coast and off the beaten tourism path on our way to Porto, where we took in amazing views and sampled a number of traditional small bites. We spent the afternoon in Porto walking the city, sampling local cuisines Andre felt were vital to experience, and taking in a lot of the history and culture of this great city. Our walking journey flowed and we found our stroll through the city to be a mix of sensations which was exactly what we wanted. Andre provided this to us not because it’s his style but because he had gotten to know us and was able to tailor a tour to our preferences. In between the sites and bites, we would get lost in conversations as we walked, discussing history, comparing cultures, talking about food, and even life. The next day, Andre was again waiting for us at the hotel to journey east into the mountains and down into the Douro Valley. We would make a few different stops in smaller towns off the beaten path, to taste local sweets with coffee, see local history, stroll local markets, and immerse ourselves in daily life. We were exposed to wine from the Green Wine region and even bought a few bottles from a butcher shop where Andre knew the owner made a very good wine at an excellent value. We stopped at the river side in a town at the base of the valley for lunch at a local shop where the owner poured a few different recommended glasses to pair with a wooden board full of regional tastes and bites. We eventually made our way up the Douro Valley to a private tasting Andre had arranged for us focused on port wines, but from a maker who specialized in port, sparkling, red and whites. We tasted white, ruby, and tawney ports straight from the barrel as we learned about its process and the variables that influenced the final product. We transitioned to the tasting room while getting lost in conversation about wine and life, feeling like we were making friends along the way. The depth of our tasting combined with private experience allowed us to go deeper and perhaps stay longer on a part of our tour to which we all shared a common passion. It was an afternoon we’ll never forget. We would journey back to Porto for another night in the city before heading back south the next morning. As he did each night, Andre recommended a few restaurant options for us to try. We appreciated this because they were usually suggestions of more authentic food in less touristy areas. Day 3 began with Andre waiting for us outside of our hotel, van cleaned thoroughly again, as always, topped with fresh water and supplies and ready for our journey south to Lisbon. Andre had prepared an option A & B for us on day 3 depending on weather conditions. We would choose option B due to weather and head towards Nazare, now famous for its giant ocean waves. We then continued south to Lisbon where we dined on a local dish Andre felt we absolutely needed to experience before touring the main historical attractions. We transitioned to the city center where we tasted some other local delicacies and strolled our way to the other attractions and through less touristy neighborhoods which provided a more authentic feel and flavor. We decided to be ready for pick up 15 minutes early on day 4, knowing Andre to always be early. We still did not beat him to our rendezvous point. He was once again ready and waiting to escort us to Sintra to start our day with a tour of Pena Palace. While it wasn't very crowded due to our time of year, the advantages of having a local guide became apparent as we bypassed the crowds and strategically navigated the palace. After a couple of hours of an immersive and historical tour, Andre had a lunch arranged for us overlooking the water at a coastal town nearby where we dined on what was perhaps our most enjoyable meal of the trip. The three of us then decided to walk a bit of the coast line and get a deeper understanding of the area while basking in the cliff top views. From there we made our way via a coastal route back to Lisbon, stopping for another unique wine tasting in a method we had never seen or experienced before. Our last stop along the coast was in an affluent area rich with amazing homes and even more amazing views. We slowly winded down the coast, stopping amongst the waves crashing ashore to toast our 4 days together and to express our gratitude for an amazing experience. We would end our tour back in Lisbon with hugs and many thanks. We came for a tour and left with a friend. We’ll be excited to return with additional time and a brand new itinerary. We’ll be even more excited to reconnect with Andre and experience more of Portugal through his guidance and passion. He can work with anyone on any style of tour and will make it a first class and private experience. If you are looking for substance to your experience and also wanting to avoid the crowdedness, herding and structure of large tours, he’s your guy. If you are looking for cleanliness, timeliness, and attention to detail, he’s your guy. If you are looking for an elevated experience of Portugal in more ways than one, he’s your guy. If you are looking for a reputable, honorable, and high character individual, he’s your guy.

          Amazing Country! Phenomenal tour guide!
My family and I had an amazing time in Portugal! We travelled for Christmas and New Year and Carlos made the trip unforgettable. He was such a great host and was so knowledgable; we were blessed to have a great travel companion. Carlos did such a phenomenal job with the country that we are seriously considering retiring to Portugal! We will definitely use Carlos and Andre when we inevitably visit again. A great day!
This was a truly memorable day. Andre was a wonderful tour guide for our group of six. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We visited both the magnificent Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira on a misty day which added to the magic of the setting. He arranged lunch for us at a nice oceanfront restaurant outside Cascais. We drove back to Lisbon via Estoril.

          Stunning Nazare and Obidos
This tour was my personal favorite. Nazare is unbelievably beautiful and home to some of the biggest waves in the world. Andre guided us through both Nazare and Obidos with passion and knowledge. We enjoyed hearing history, trying ginja, and exploring the charming streets of Obidos. Andre accommodated our wishes and became like a friend!

          Lisbon gems from a local
Andre enthusiastically showed us so many beautiful parts of the city of Lisbon. He was engaging and professional throughout our time together. We especially enjoyed seeing Alfama and Belem. We took his recommendation to walk around The Carriage Museum after our tour. He is a wealth of knowledge!

          Remarkable Experience
We embarked on a relaxing trip and had incredible experiences. Andre provided a unique, personal, and memorable experience, ensuring each day was different. Each destination offered unique charm and stunning sights, leaving unforgettable memories. Andre, knowledgeable and passionate about the country's history and arts, provided insights into local cultures rooted in ancient landmarks from Portugal's history to its modern state. Breathtaking monuments such as Pena Palace, Furnas Do Guincho, Monsaraz, Obidos leave a lasting impression. Their architecture and design always reveal something new, from carvings to inscriptions to paintings. Leisurely stroll through the town's narrow streets leads to ancient churches, where captivating local stories, historical significance, and evolution can be discovered. We get to hear interesting local stories about the places, ask questions why it is significant, and how it became to be what it is today. Cascais, along the Guincho Highroad, features Furnas Do Guincho, a renowned seafood restaurant with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. Private walking tours through cobblestone streets and traditional houses in Amarante offer a unique and immersive experience, transporting visitors to a different era. Led by Andre, these tours explore hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path locations, that were not crowded with tourists, providing an authentic taste of the town's essence, including traditional pastries and tea in local homes settings. Porto is a charming city with renowned monuments, offering a glimpse into its rich history. Visitors can explore the origins of knights, powerful kings, the reformation, and the birth of Portugal through its architectural highlights. The São Bento train station's beautiful hand-painted tile panels reflect the city's heritage, while a stroll through its picturesque narrow streets and houses provides a glimpse into the past. Overlooking the ocean from a clifftop viewpoint in Nazaré, we took a leisurely stroll along the sandy beach, admiring the sun-dried fish, octopus, and fishing boats. Lunch at Peso da regua is one of the many nice local cafés in the pleasant town near to Douro Valley is always a great way to chill. We challenged ourselves to climb the 600 stairs at Braga to reach a cathedral and admire fountains representing the five senses. Quinta do Tedo, a cozy winery in the Douro Valley, offers delicious wines amidst terraced vineyards. The local cuisine offered a delightful exploration of flavours, particularly the unique taste of the traditional Portuguese Pastéis de Belém near Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. Enjoy local homemade cuisine (which can often be difficult to find in a restaurant) and learn about folklores and simple dishes from skilled chefs during lunch. For a satisfying meal, Galeto, Saldanha offers traditional Portuguese beef steak sandwich The itineraries were well-paced and comfortable, we would not be able to see as much as we could without a good guide. Thoughtful touches like providing bottled water and express lane entries to attractions enhance the overall experience. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking to broaden their horizons and indulge in the joys of travel.

A perfect trip to Portugal made possible by the professionalism and passion of Nomad Inspiration.
What a wonderful seven days in Portugal - all made possible by the careful attention to detail, passion and professionalism of Andre Antunes and Nomad Inspiration. I first started corresponding with Andre a little over a year ago and described what my wife and I were looking for - a higher end private tour of Lisbon and Porto over a seven day period. Andre responded to my initial e-mail and every subsequent e-mail promptly. He provided an in-depth itinerary which fleshed out the trip in much greater detail. After some fine tuning, we had a plan. We met Andre at the airport and he was a delight. Warm, thoughtful, competent - he provided us with comfort that everything was set for a beautiful week. All tickets necessary for any sites had been pre-purchased, so there would be no waiting on lines. After relaxing at the Memmo Principe Real for a few hours, we were picked up by Sandra Botelho for a half day Tuk-Tuk tour of Lisbon. Nomad Inspiration is only as good as their guides - and Sandra didn't disappoint. Indeed, she was one of the highlights of our trip. An actress who loves the people and food of Portugal, Sandra took us on a joyous and informative tour of Lisbon. Her warmth and passion for her country and her city made the tour so very memorable - sharing little bits of information that the average guide might not have. We even went to her favorite spot for Pastel de Nata. Delicious. We have a a pretty good feel for what it means to live in Lisbon. The next several days, we were in the very good hands of Luis Rodrigues. A full day private tour of Sintra, Cascais and the Estoril coast was a delight. All lines at Sintra Palace and Quinta de Regaleira were bypassed. Luis has given this tour before, but he somehow manages to keep it fresh, informative and entertaining. Andre arranged for a lunch in Cascais at Furnas do Guincho on the beach and it was lovely. The following day, Luis picked us up at the hotel for the drive to Porto. All the way up, Luis provided us with information about the country - about cork, port wine and eucalyptus trees. A stop at his favorite pastry ship in Obidos was well worth it - as was several hours in Nazare where we enjoyed another lunch on the beach arranged by Andre at Pangeia by the Sea. It was lovely and enhanced by Luis joining us. We arrived at Hotel Casa da Companhia in a lovely part of Porto and then met Luis the following day for a tour of the city. We of course saw the major sites. But what my wife and I enjoyed the most about Luis were the little things, the special moments that are not in every tour guide. Like the time we went into a fashionable men's clothing store which was not visible from the main road. The store was in what had been an 18th century hospital. Luis introduced us to the owner who then took us on a private tour of the building, what was happening there hundreds of years ago, and how proud he was of the restoration that they had done. An unexpected special moment. Throughout the week, Andres was always in touch with us. Confirming by text the events of the coming day and always available for any questions we might have. Andres and his team are to be applauded. They provided us with a memorable private tour of a wonderful country which we can't wait to return to. Obrigado!!!

Customized tour plan, fit our needs perfectly!
Andre was great to communicate with and plan a trip to Portugal. We gave our needs, preferences and constraints, and he came back with a plan that worked perfectly for us. He was with us all the way, from meeting us at the airport when we landed to dropping us off at the airport. He know and clearly loves his country very much, and it shows in his passion sharing the knowledge. He tailored the pace and level of detail to suit our needs. I highly recommend this, if you ae looking for a great experience while enjoying a stress free trip.

This is your Guide in Portugal!
We want to recommend Nomadinspiration and Andre Antunes to anyone considering a trip to Portugal. We had only a very general knowledge of Portugal, and so were not able to prove more than interests. Andre came up with an excellent itinerary. He also welcomed feedback, making adjustments as we were able to give him more information – with plenty of new ideas along the way, as he helped us discover new interests. Andre brings a knowledge of his country, its history and its culture that is as broad as it is deep, and he shares it with an enthusiasm that cannot help but be infectious. To give a sense of the breadth of his knowledge, our tour ranged from cities to medieval towns, from fortresses to forests, from prehistoric monoliths and cave paintings to marble quarries and tile makers and small wineries. Let’s talk about food. His knowledge included local specialties, which were well worth it. Andre also had great restaurant recommendations, and ways of finding new ones as we stopped along the way. (We did, however, have to ban pastries after a few days – not that they were bad, but we had to fit into our clothes!) Finally, let us admit that, even in a country as welcoming as Portugal, we are nervous travelers. With Andres we never felt uncomfortable, from the time we were picked up at the airport to the time we left. Thank you, Andre and Nomadinspiration!

          Best Adventure with Andre -!
Andre was everything you could want in a tour guide! He was personable, super organized, resourceful and a delight to spend several days with touring Portugal. I booked him (group of 2 couples) several months in advance and he was always prompt with return emails including suggestions/feedback for planning our days in advance. Once together he was very flexible as we adjusted to our daily energy level and the hot weather. Andre is an energic seasoned tour guide and very knowledgeable about his home country - from the detailed history of Pena Palace to authentic seaside restaurants. Our first visit to Portugal was wonderful, but our memories with Andre made it one of our best adventures! Book him early!

My husband and I spent nearly three weeks in Portugal and can honestly say that Andre is an amazing tour guide (one of the best we had!) and we're so thankful to him for a memorable day exploring Sintra and Cascais. We booked a private one day tour for a Monday, but arrived in Lisbon a few days before. I took a chance in texting Andre to ask for some suggestions before we had even gone on the tour with him and he responded right away with helpful insight and recommendations. We were surprised that he would spend his time to reply and help us even before meeting with us! Andre's experience in providing upscale tours is evident in all that he does - before, during, and after the tour. His communication skills were terrific and helped us to know what to expect, where to meet, what to bring, etc. to make the most of our day. His vehicle is luxurious, clean, and comfortable and he anticipates your needs by having water, tissues, etc. all on hand. During the tour, he provided fascinating historical information (we were interested in this, if you're not, he'll modify the tour to your liking as he offered to do for us) and knew all the in's and out's of the palaces. This was especially beneficial for navigating Sintra which was crowded, but he knew the quiet trails to take and where to stand for the perfect photo. He also knows the local's hangouts so we enjoyed lunch at a delicious restaurant in Sintra where we seemed to be the only tourists. In Cascais, he gave us some time to walk the promenade on our own which was nice since this was the last day we had in Portugal. Andre is perceptive to your wants and needs and willing and capable to modify the tour accordingly. He is a professional through and through and our only regret is not being able to have a second or third day with him. Book with him, you won't be disappointed!
