    Fantastic tour
Great tour! Andriy was informative and gave us a fantastic overview of the history of Lisbon. We walked through neighborhoods, churches, historic sites and shopping areas. Thanks to Andriy’s tour, we’re ready to continue to explore the rest of Portugal with history in mind.

    A tour worth doing.
We had an informative and friendly guide who very much pitched it to what we wanted to know about. Seemed very unflappable and was very helpful.

    Small group tour of Lisbon
Andriy our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an excellent walking tour, of about 3 hours, of the main streets and buildings at the centre of Lisbon, with a stop for coffee and pastel de nata along the way. We visited the world's oldest bookstore. We discussed Lisbon's recent and not-so-recent history, its politics in the 20th century and its current economy. Very enjoyable and would recommend.

    WORTH EVERY CENT
This was simply outstanding. Rui, our tour guide, is a scholar. Highly knowledgeable. He provided some of the best historical context I've experienced on any tour, and I've done my share of traveling. This is an absolute must for anyone interested in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Highly, Highly recommended. I would take this tour again.

A must for anyone interested in Lisbon’s history
The tour was super! Rui, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the topic, even tracing the roots of slavery to the Roman era. His enthusiasm about the subject was palpable and his style is open and engaging. He even recommended a great Mozambican restaurant (Roda Vive). I’d heartily recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon who’s curious about Portugal’s involvement in the trans-Atlantic space trade.

The Slave Trade Historical Tour: Our guide Rui Fernandes was absolutely excellent.
We took the Slave Trade Historical Tour, and it was both enlightening and deeply moving, shedding light on Portugal's dark history of the slave trade. Naturally, it was also very troubling and saddening to learn about this painful chapter in history. We discovered the tour through an encounter my friend had at the airport with an African American traveler. I'm Irish and went with my friend, who is of Somali heritage. At first, we were a bit concerned the tour might sensationalize the topic of slavery, but our guide, Rui Fernandes, far exceeded our expectations. Rui's deep understanding and passion for the history of Portugal and its involvement in the slave trade were evident from the start. This is a serious and difficult subject, but Rui approached it with professionalism, patiently answering all of our questions. His knowledge was extraordinary, and his engaging storytelling kept us riveted for the entire three hours. Though three hours is a long time to walk and stand, we had a break and the route wasn't too strenuous. I’d recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing tissues, as the experience can be emotional.

    Spectacular
My guide, Rui, was punctual and very informative. I especially liked that he had visual aids to help with his presentation. I did multiple tours this trip, and this walking tour was by far my favorite!

    Very nice tour.
Very nice tour. We were scheduled for a morning tour and the operator contacted us asking if we would like to reschedule to the afternoon based on the weather forecast. Glad we did. The guide was knowledgeable and tailored the tour based on our group's wants. He added a coffee break in at the groups request where we set and had a great visit learning about daily life for people in Lisbon. I recommend this tour.

Andriy was an excellent guide! He paced the tour really well, gave us a great insight into the history of Lisbon and was very engaging. Loved that the tour started at the highest point and we worked our way down hill :)

    A thought-provoking tour
This tour examining the history of the slave trade in Lisbon was exceptional. We were presented with an historical timeline of slavery in the region from ancient times, through the Atlantic Slave Trade, and into the impact of slavery on modern times. Rui’s knowledge of the topic was incredibly thorough, and was well-documented with historical artifacts - copies of paintings, facts and numbers, maps and trade routes - which he used to illustrate his points. Although this tour is clearly a passion, Rui’s presentation was clear and unbiased. For such a serious topic, and one so full of historical information, it never felt stuffy. Everyone in the group was thoroughly engaged in the topic, as it is one with connections to so many of our societies across the world. The tour was a comfortable walk, with plenty of stops along the way. We were always invited to ask questions, which were welcomed and answered in a patient and thoughtful manner. A thought-provoking experience that made each of us want to learn more.

Excellent small group walking tour. Our guide, Andriy, did a great job explaining the Portuguese and Lisbon history and how it ties together with our present time. If you want to visit the monastery I recommend you to take a guided tour and pre purchase the tickets as the queue is very long for the non guided entrance.

The Belém and Jerónimos Monastery Guided Small Group Walking Tour was an absolutely amazing experience! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the history of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks to life. From the moment we started the tour, it was clear that our guide was passionate about the rich history and cultural significance of Belém and its monuments.

Visiting the stunning Jerónimos Monastery was a highlight – the architecture is breathtaking, and our guide shared fascinating insights about its history and the famous explorers associated with the site. The stories behind the monastery and nearby attractions, including the Belém Tower and Monument to the Discoveries, made the whole experience much more meaningful.

The small group size made the tour feel personal and allowed for a more interactive experience. We had plenty of time to ask questions, and our guide’s enthusiasm made the entire tour enjoyable and educational.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon – it’s a great way to explore the historical heart of the city with an expert guide who can provide context that you won’t get from just visiting the sites on your own.

Excellent! Andriy was our guide. What a clever young man and so knowledgeable. This is our first ever visit to Portugal and it was our first full day! The tour was superb ! He was so thoughtful- even telling us to watch our step, incase of trip hazards and keeping us safe when crossing roads. He knew the answer to everything we asked and being in a small group was super and the other 6 people were very sweet and we chatted away over a coffee and were given a traditional custard tart- which was all part of the experience. He stopped and took pics of all of us whenever we wanted and he knows how to take a great photo too! Thoroughly recommend this tour and we feel as if we know a great many things now about Portugal, Lisbon and even European and World History having spent 3 hours with Andriy! Brilliant job! Thank you! We will really remember it!

Andriy was an excellent, knowledgeable guide who communicated well and told us much about the area, apart from the highlights described in the overview. He guided us through the throngs of tourists, magically procuring Pasteis de Belem and telling us the fascinating story of their origin. At the Jeronimos Monastery, we were among the first to be led in, despite the lineup. What a time saver! We used the Lisboa Card for entry which covers many sights, including our transportation. We loved hearing about the architecture. There was a refreshment/bathroom break which was also appreciated. We continued to the Belem Tower and the Monument of Discoveries where Andriy’s knowledge allowed us to understand what we were looking at. We were also led to Bordalo II’s Big Raccoon sculpture which was mesmerizing. This tour allowed us to make the most of our limited time in Belem and I highly recommend it.

We had a great time on this walking tour with our group of just five plus Andriy, our very knowledgeable and friendly guide.

The monastery is stunning and I had no idea how overwhelmed I would be by the beauty of it. It was fun to hear stories about the monks and their connection to the Pasteis de Belem bakery! It was also there we learned about a fascinating Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa, which suddenly explained a lot of merchandise at souvenir shops — haha!

You do not go into the Tower of Belem, but they have closed the top anyway and the inside is empty so it does not seem you’re missing much. Seeing the outside is lovely. The Monument of Discoveries is also best outside, though you can go in it on your own time after the tour (both the Tower and this monument are free on the Lisboa card — and the monastery is also free on the Lisboa card — a good deal!) Andriy was able to point out the different people on the monument and tell us their stories.

Andriy had really great line-cutting skills which came in really handy for getting a pastry at the Pasteis de Belem bakery and oh my those were the best we’d tasted in all Portugal and trust me we were trying to taste every one in Portugal.

Andriy was also great about taking photos of us if we asked. I don’t think we could stump him with any question! He knows so much history about Lisbon and Portugal and it was delightful being in the company if someone who loves their city so much and wants to share it with you.

It is a bit of walking but there is a 15-20 minute break in the middle for bathrooms, water and sitting down, and the terrain down that way is mostly flat.

This tour was outstanding. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, helping us understand and appreciate what we were seeing. We were surprised/shocked at the number of tourists in Lisbon. Had we not used My Lisbon Tours we would never have been able to experience key attractions, due to the long waiting lines. We booked two tours with My Lisbon Tours and both were worth every euro/dollar (and more) of the cost.

We had a wonderful tour with Andriy. I think this is the best way to see the Monastery. We had a small group of 8 and stopped at Pasteis de Belém for the famous nata and it was delicious. As we approached the Monastery, Andriy pointed out the special festivities for a day honoring firefighters. We used the Lisboa Card for our entry to the Monastery (there was a machine to scan our cards and enter our home country). I think it was much more meaningful to have a guided entry in the Monastery and hear Andriy’s insight on Saint Jerome and the architecture features of the Manueline style. We learned a lot and it was a valuable experience. We also walked to the Belém Tower and Monument to the Discoveries, with a refreshment stop on the way. We enjoyed the surprise of seeing the raccoon sculpture and learning about the artist and his methods. If you want to visit the Monastery with minimal waiting and actually learn about what you’re looking at, definitely take this tour.

Of all the tours we booked for our trip to Lisbon, this one was worth every penny. My Lisbon Tours was great at communicating the need/instructions to purchase entrance tickets for the Jeronimos Monastery. They also provided the name and photo of our guide and transportation options to the meeting point due to a marathon on the same day. Our guide Andriy was very knowledgeable and patient answering all of our questions. If you want to tour the Belem area, choose this tour.

The Jeronimos Monastery is highly rated on Trip Advisor for a reason. This majestic landmark is absolutely worth the visit. Do not attempt to go, however, without booking this tour. Not only was the guide passionate and knowledgeable, the tour allowed us to skip the unreasonably long line to get in. We entered first when the monastery opened and felt like we had the monastery to ourselves. By the time we finished our tour, the line was around the block. If you have the chance to visit Lisbon and see the Monastery, book this tour, get there early, and enjoy.

I had read in many places that there was no way to skip the mile long line at Jeronimos Monastery, even if you purchase online tickets beforehand and showed up early. This tour was a great workaround, that our entire family really enjoyed, above and beyond skipping the line. (FYI The monastery allows guided tours to skip the line!). Our tour guide Ruí Fernandes was excellent (and had his own fascinating colonial Portuguese family history). He was prompt, kind, knowledgeable, and patient. He made it interesting even to our 2 older teens. The tour even included a stop for a pasteis de belem 😊 Our family always does guided tours in new cities, and definitely recommend this one!
