- Skip touristy restaurants for more authentic shops and cafes
- Don't miss the most classic flavors of Lisbon
- Leave the tour with tips on where to eat and drink
What to expect
Make your way to a central location in Lisbon, and then set out on foot through the city.
Start with a round of petiscos (Portuguese tapas) at a local restaurant, and then duck into the 18th-century Café Nicola for a taste of café culture and a trademark sweet. Nibble a Portuguese codfish cake alongside some vinho verde, a refreshing green wine.
Next, head to a Bairro Alto wine bar for tapas and a glass of local white wine. Stop by a seafood restaurant and discover a trove of sausages, salted fish, ham, and cheese inside a gourmet shop.
Sip some Portuguese cherry brandy paired with São Jorge cheese at a nearby bar, and then sample ginjinha (liqueur from a historic watering hole). The last stop of the tour is a 17th-century palace, where you’ll try chouriço (sausage), bread, and other local products with a final glass of red wine.

Had a lovely experience of Lisbons local delicacies. Daniel our guide was excellent and not only gave us lots of historical information of the city and had a good knowledge of the foods but was able to answer any questions we threw at him.
As for the tour, I would be tempted to spread it out a little as most of the cafes/shops were close to each other so we had no sooner ate a cod fish cake, then a pork bap followed quickly by cheese and jam and cherry brandy, etc. A little space between courses would have been better. Overall a good experience

A fantastic evening spent with Margarida, our charismatic host with impeccable knowledge of Portuguese gastronomy and a local knowledge of the best eateries. She was able to point us towards places to try during the rest of our trip and was keen to make sure that we avoided the tourist traps. I would recommend this tour to anybody who enjoys learning about a city’s history through food, and as the tour happens in a relatively small footprint in the centre of the city it isn’t too taxing after a long day of exploring.

An excellent introduction to the food & wine culture in Lisbon, organized as a private tour in a small group setting. This was a delicious and comprehensive tasting tour that actually in a matter of hours covered a very small walking area. We were constantly stopping, learning & tasting, all in spots frequented by locals & full of long history. Our guide Ricardo was most enthusiastic and full of knowledge that expanded beyond tastings to the rich history of the city and the country. When finished we were more than stuffed with excellent goodies. Serving portions were most generous. Thanks again Ricardo from the 8 Canadians.

Visiting a city with such a rich food culture, I wanted to ensure I didn’t miss out on trying any of it, especially since I was only in town for a short stay. Within the first 3 hours of landing in Portugal, this tour allowed me to try every delicacy (and more) as well as get a good handle on Lisbon. André was a wonderful guide who is passionate about his city and knowledgeable about not only Portuguese food, but also Portuguese culture, history, and current events. He answered any questions we had and was so easy to talk to — by the end of the tour he felt like an old friend! He was a true pleasure to interact with. This tour set the tone for a wonderful and delicious weekend, and I’ve now fallen in love with Portuguese cuisine — obrigada for a perfect welcome to Lisbon!

We chose this tour to get information about and taste local food and drink. It was great with a nice variety of beer, wine, port, portuguese tapas (petiscoes) and more. The final stop out of 5 with a mix of petiscoes was a perfect end. Our guide Anna made a great job and our group with 8 elderly Swedish neigbours and 8 young Irish friends turned out to be a success. A very interesting and priceworthy tour!

Catarina was a great guide. Very enthusiastic about her city, very knowledgeable about port and was flexible with having to re-arrange things due to the public holiday event.
It was difficult to meet the guide at the beginning of the tour due to the crowds but the person who answered the phone was very helpful to help us meet up in the end.

I totally forgot to write a review until now. My husband and I did this tour on our honeymoon 12 years ago and again in January 2022. It has been revamped to include an excellent bifana and the cod fritters are still amazing. Joana shared great information about the city and because the tour was small, was able to answer a ton of questions. Her experience was so vast, she was able to reminisce with us about stops on our previous tour and gave us great suggestions on other restaurants to visit.

We've done food tours in several European cities. This one was excellent! Great Portuguese food and drink insights and ample in quantity too! We are so much we didnt need dinner!
Our guide Joana was friendly knowledgeable and engaging. She made everyone feel at ease and accomodated some group specific food preferences.
The tour is based around Praca de figuera and rossio all on the flat, so very accessible including for those with limited mobility.
We loved it all - we're heading back to two we particularly enjoyed (pasteis de bacalhau and bifana.....) and wd highly recommend it.

Our guide Ana Luisa was very informative and we enjoyed a full and entertaining tour. We had booked this tour for the first day of our long weekend in Lisbon. It gave us a great perspective of the city and we visited many places we wouldn’t have found on our own. All four of us enjoyed the selection of local food and drink on offer. The group was small (12 people in total) which meant it felt quite intimate and we were able to ask our guide questions and discuss the food with each other. Highly recommend that you do this tour - we will now be doing similar tours on other city breaks. A great way to see the city and hear about some of the history. Thanks Ana Luisa 😊👍🏻

When we tried to register for that one for 8 people I could not get it to work.
I even called Get Your Guide.
Finally I tried a different card but used my phone rather than my computer - cell online banking.
It worked like a charm.
Good luck

4:30 pm was our start time but check with vendor to see if they’ve adjusted time.
Hello. My husband and I have additional Covid-19 safety questions: (1) will the food tastings be conducted indoors or outdoors (we would prefer outdoors) (2) what is the spacing of the groups of people? Thank you in advance for your responses.

I agree with James -- some indoors, some out. Our group tended to wear masks when not eating, but it was definitely convivial. Something else to keep in mind is that there are frequent testing requirements -- for example, you have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test (taken immediately before) in order to eat in a restaurant on a weekend, and many hotels make you test on the spot when you check in.

Greetings,
I’m a solo traveler and I was wondering what day would be good that other people will be on the tour too.
Look forward to your response.

Hi there,
If I am gluten free can I take part in eating at each place? or do you have accommodations for gluten free?

Hello !
It’s actually a set menu at each place so am not really sure how dietary restrictions are handled. They want you to taste the very local snacks , like codfish so they take you to small watering holes. At one lace there is a burger so yes the bread isn’t gluten free but am guessing you can request it beforehand ( we didn’t ). The last stop is a fancy little restaurant , that am sure can accommodate a dietary restriction. Have fun!

Hi there, I have already booked this tour for 7th May but think I missed giving our requirements. At least 4 members are vegetarian, can this be catered for? And is there a number we can contact if we are running late? Thanks, Omar

I agree with the previous answer. Lisbon is not a place for vegetarians. I don't eat beef or pork and requested a substitution. Everyone else had a black pork sandwich. I was given a very plain bun. Was quite disappointed. See if you can get your money back
