About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 322rosemaryw0 contributionsTake a historical tour of Conimbriga south of Combria and be amazed at the Roman Ruins amassed in Portugal. We decided to tour this ruin instead of just visiting Coimbra. The best thing we did. Doing our own tour was so amazing and seeing the amount of ruins available was phenomenal. How they have been preserved all these years justified why all should tour this unprecedented location and why they are all here. The tiles were magnificent and reveals little wear after all this time. The archeological site and the museum exhibits what has been found to this point. They continue to explore to see what else can be found since this was a thriving city.Written 12 January 2025
- Cathy B0 contributionsAmazing site and excellent guideOur guide Eva was wonderful. As a former student she was very knowledgable and had fun insights into the traditions and history of the university. And you could tell she really enjoyed sharing her knowledge. The tour was excellent.Written 30 December 2024
- Fireworkks0 contributionsWonderful tourGreat tour guide, very knowledgeable about the university and area. Nice stories that made the history come alive. Accommodated my elderly mother in her tour. Great experience and must not miss.Written 9 December 2024
- Silva T0 contributionsPerfect bite-sized highlights of Coimbra UniversityOur friendly and knowledgeable guide had done both her undergraduate and graduate work at Coimbra University. It was clear she knew the place in minute detail, and she was able to answer questions and tell stories about anything we asked, from academic practices to details of the restoration work. She was considerate of the fact that some in our party had limited mobility, and that all of us had older knees than she did! (There are several flights of stairs involved. Good handrails and nothing you need to be in great shape for, but enough to notice.) The tour guide dealt seamlessly with all the necessary tickets. We saw impressive ancient academic rooms that are still in use, the chapel, and the library, all in a little over an hour. It was perfect for our energy level and time budget. The only downside is not the tour's fault: parking anywhere near the top of the hill in Coimbra seems to be a nightmare.Written 19 November 2024
- Stuart A0 contributionsAmazing, ancient, well preservedJust spectacular. So ancient and so well put together. Hard to imagine this was a home for many 2000 years ago. Mind blowingWritten 15 November 2024
- Companion219345682530 contributionsGreat experienceMy family and I recently went on two tours with Sara and her team, to the Conimbriga Roman ruins, and for a full day to three stunning UNESCO heritage sites. Both were excellent - well-organised, very informative and excellent value - highly recommended.Written 7 November 2024
- KathyG2630 contributionsMeaningful and Informative ExperienceOur tour with Sara was an educational experience learning about the fascinating history of the university and Coimbra.. We were lucky to enjoy a private tour. The cost included the admission fees. Sara also made sure we got to see the inside of the chapel prior to the start of Sunday mass. Highly recommend this tour.Written 21 October 2024
- BigDCalifornia0 contributionsYou won’t regret booking this tour.Excellent tour. Guide was great and time went by too quick! Would recommend to anyone who wants a brief overview of Coimbra university.Written 8 October 2024
- jaseaton0 contributionsA Roman Ruin Brought to LifeThe museum was a lovely appetizer, but the true glory of this site is the excavated house of a wealthy Roman, with tile floors, water courses through the house, multiple layers of living and storage space, and more. We spent a delightful hour or so exploring.Written 21 September 2024
- 529pennyt0 contributionsExcellent tour of Coimbra University and the Joanina LibraryEva was a marvellous guide, knowledgeable and passionate about the university and library. Going early suited me and also meant that the uni was not busy on arrival. We were able to go straight in to different areas and it is very much worth seeing when in Coimbra. It was great to hear about the history and be able to ask questions of a very well informed local.Written 2 September 2024
- MaryleneS0 contributionsA private tour to avoid the crowds! We tried different options for morning tours of Coimbra, unfortunately all seemed to be fully booked for the mornings...The only option for a morning visit was the VIP Access to the University, the Chapel SĂŁo Miguel and the Joanina Library. We were greeted by Eva and had a wonderful and very informative private visit, avoiding the crowds. We strongly recommend it!Written 5 August 2024

- amiargaman0 contributionsVisiting Conimbriga Roman Ruins and MuseumHistory lovers that we are, we were not going to visit Portugal without seeing the Roman ruins in Conimbriga. Fortunately we had Eva J as out guide: her wealth of knowledge, flawless command of English, love of what she is doing, great attitude and pleasant demeanor helped bring this dead place alive for us. We could imagine ourselves living in the structures she described and explained to us so well. Thank you, Eva!Written 2 June 2024
- Besttravel_280 contributionsNice visit if you are in the areaWorth the visit if you are in the area. The entry fee was 8 euros and it includes the ruins and the museum. It was a very interesting visit.Written 5 May 2024
- Ms_R334800 contributionsVery nice ruins, good mosaicsThe ruins have been partially excavated and what there is to see is interesting but not very well preserved, the mosaics are nice and the garden of the house with the fountains is really nice, the fountains still work if you put in a 50 cent coin in the meter. What I didn’t care for was the paving they have done over the ruins and in the gymnasium area, it really ruins the whole effect. The museum is very small, you can see it in about 20 minutes, but it is worth it as you are already there and there is no extra charge. Getting there by public transportation is not easy as they only have a few buses a day. You can hire a taxi but I never checked on the price. We took a semi private tour out of Coimbra for 60 euros per person that included a visit to another interactive museum and the aqueduct nearby. The entire tour took about four hours from start to finish.Written 27 April 2024

We were supposed to meet Sara Cruz on top of the hill in Coimbra, going down. However, the annual parade of the university happened to take place the same days, which was an exciting site in and of itself, but the road were blocked, so we could not get there by taxi. Instead, Sara came down to our hotel and we took the walking tour going up. It made it a bit more difficult, but Sara made it all worthwhile. With her vast knowledge and home-grown perspectives, her familiarity with the students' lives and culture, her lovely demeanor and sense of humor, she painted the place for in bright virtual colors, making it a very special experience. Thank you, Sara!

Fabiana gave us a tour around the main parts of the Baixa and Alta (except the cathedrals), and taught us many facts about the city of Coimbra that we didn't know, especially student and university related. We missed a bit more depth of the historical facts and general city history, and also felt the 2h guide could be more structured (I think we could have gone through the same amount of info in 30 minutes less). If they improve the historical depth of the tour, I would definitely increase the rating, as Fabiana was super friendly and nice, and it was great visiting the city with her.

Hello!
I am very sorry that you felt our Historical Highlights Tour doesn't have enough historical information, as we've built the route with details from the Roman times, through the Islamic Occupation of the Territory, the Reconquest and the First Kings Presence here, and the University History with the Unesco Classified Area and the Intangible Heritage. Fabiana has communicated that the tour happened normally, so we're caught by surprise and very sad with this rating.
I am very sorry and hopefully next time we can prove to you our route is complete enough: please ask questions if and when you have them! We always answer.
Best regards,
Sara Cruz
