Lunch at Varanda do Alentejo with a unique view and one of the best cooks in the area: bread, paio (spicy sausage), Nisa cheese, olives and olive oil from Marvão; tomato soup, potato “migas” (the traditional Marvão migas) with pork, topped off with Sericaia, as well as regional wines.

Tour of the village of Marvão, a medieval village surrounded by an uninterrupted and untouched wall, giving you sprawling views. A tour of the municipal museum that tells us the history of the region.

Back to the Quinta do Barreiro for a “Cooking Class With Art” by preparing starters and a glass of local wine. As you cook you’ll learn about the history of gastronomy in Alentejo.

Day 2: Serra de São Mamede - it's food and wine

Stop At: Parque Natural da Serra de Sao Mamede, Sao Mamede Portugal

We spend the morning with the producers of the region: it can be in the middle of the chestnuts, the apples (bravo esmolfe), or the aromatic herbs, of a cheese factory, or we can also get more hands-on and bake traditional cakes, depending on the time of the year.

Trip to the the Galegos Olive oil mill museum – located right next to Spain, you’ll be able to see all gear and processes involved in producing olive oil, ending with an olive oil tasting.

Vegetarian lunch at the Clube Gastronómico dos Galegos: A unique experience in an old smugglers hangout, with surprisingly original flavours.

You will hike on of the most popular smuggler routes of the past up to the village of Fontañera, across the border, in Spain. Along the way you’ll hear exciting stories and discover what kind of agricultural products are grown here.
