Delve into the rich cultural tapestry of Holland on a comprehensive day-trip from Amsterdam. With a knowledgeable guide, travel through Holland’s beautiful countryside and discover tulip-filled meadows, historical windmills and traditional cheese factories. Visit villages and towns like Edam, Marken, Volendam and Zaanse Schans, and enjoy a pleasant balance of guided walking tours and leisurely free time. Taste the globally renowned cheese of Volendam; witness the art of wooden shoe-making in Marken; take a tranquil cruise to Volendam; and marvel at the ancient windmills of Zaanse Schans.
What to Expect
Depart from a central Amsterdam location and climb aboard a comfortable vehicle destined for the beautiful countryside of the Netherlands. Stop first in Marken, a traditional fishing town famed for its pristine preservation of Dutch culture, and embark on a guided walking tour of the town’s pretty streets. Visit a wooden shoemaker in a craftsman’s lair and delve into the rich history of this unique area.

Then, climb aboard a boat headed to Volendam and absorb stunning views of Lake Ijssel. On arrival, enjoy some leisurely free time to explore the quaint boutiques and picturesque harbor of the fishing village, and then reconvene with your guide and group for a fulfilling Dutch lunch. Opt to enjoy meat, fish or a vegetarian 3-course meal.

Wander the cobblestone streets and gaze upon the quaint homes and bridges along Edam’s canals – it’s like taking a stroll through a Dutch postcard.

Travel onward to the province of Zaandam, famed for its collection of perfectly preserved Dutch windmills. Admire the quaint structures and disembark to visit one of the iconic windmills up close.

After your enriching Dutch excursion, relax during the ride back to central Amsterdam.
