About
This place represents the long-lasting relationship between Pisa and sailing thanks to the exhibit of finds, but also to the building itself: it is a symbol of the Grand Duke’s will to revive the times of Pisa a Maritime Republic. These are all the reasons that brought to the conservation and preservation by all means possible of the structure of the Arsenals. This choice influenced the museum outfitting, especially in the “minor” rooms on the hallway. Here the maintenance of the horse boxes with gates and drinking troughs imposed a splitting of the narration into chapters, thus allowing the visitor to further divide the 8 thematic sections in small moments to be enjoyed step-by-step. The majestic rooms and the aisles, originally built to accommodate great Grand Duke ships, are now the perfect place to display the restored ships. Here the Roman ships are exhibited, as a starting point for the long history of sailing in Pisa, now finding new life inside the rooms of the museum.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Dina B0 contributionsFantastic facts and views.Really interesting tour from a great guide Daniela. We ended up having a private tour as the other guests didn’t show. So lucky us! You get to hear some history and fun facts, lots of spiral stairs up to the best views over the square and basin. Recommend as not too long a tour and holds attention.Written 5 February 2025
- davidcB8929IO0 contributionsA Very nice PalaceA superb palace full of history. A little expensive for the entrance fee as there are only a few rooms open to the public but the grand hall and the Isabella apartments are well worth seeing. The Colonna family descendants still live here.Written 1 February 2025
- Dorothy K0 contributionsAmazing historical artefacts but a lot of walking!Another beautiful historical building full of Roman knowledge that you can only but admire! Very well organised! I noticed this theme in Rome - everything runs smoothly. It held a lot of original historical artefacts, too. Our favourite was the view from the top, the room with guns and the Pope's bedroom! Cons: I asked at reception if it was disabled friendly, they said yes. Once I was inside , no lifts were working, apparently. There is a lot of walking and a lot of stairs. I really struggled and didn't get any help. Once inside, you are left on your own to do as you please. The few people that I saw there didn't speak English. This was my least favourite activity in Rome.Written 8 January 2025
- TC-Voyageur0 contributionsDon’t miss the historic fortress and mini exhibitions. Pleasant , mildly challenging indoor hike.Interesting history over the centuries. Combines imposing physical presence - former fortress - with exhibits on related and mostly unrelated topics (Marcello Mastroianni, the actor!)Written 5 January 2025
- Ramon v0 contributionsBest Etruscan museum so far…Absolutely great museum, which is “luckily” missed by the masses. Great collection, nicely displayed, and in an awesome building. Nice and quiet, and learned more of the Etruscans to appreciate them more. And now I’m interested in more of their history, which is the main goal of a museum. All considered a under appreciated gem in Rome.Written 24 December 2024
- jinkiath20240 contributionsTrip to the Venice clock tower. The view from the clock tower was amazing. Tour guide Alex explained in great detail of how the clock worked, along with the relationship between the three Kings and Gabriel. He had also told us about the history behind them. We enjoyed his company, and had a great time.Written 13 December 2024

- JennLeigh19690 contributionsWonderful Displays from Around the WorldThis place was incredible. Not just the armor and weapons from ancient times, but tapestries, clothing, and even Egyptian mummies! There's so much to see, and its all beautifully displayedWritten 5 December 2024
- Antionio100 contributionsWorth a visitIt's well worth a visit. One of the best sites to see in Rome, a city where there are many upon many sites to see. Get a ticket in advance. We had to wait three days for tickets.Written 1 December 2024
- GOINGDO123450 contributionsDon't go thereInside you can see a part on the floor, all rooms and walls are empty. There are a few frescos in a main chapel. There are several terracotta bottles or floor ceramics. Don't waist €7 tickets and yours time.Written 27 November 2024
- Mobile050137992610 contributionsA must see for any history lover. This was an amazing experience. A must see for any history lover. My husband and I stayed about 3 hours but could easily have stayed longer. The museum is very well laid out and quite reasonably priced. Highly recommended.Written 24 November 2024
- ddonia0 contributionsGreat views of NapoliReally nice views of the city. The castle itself is also interesting. We get there waking from the Spagnoli Quartieri but you can take the funicolare if you prefer not to climb!Written 21 November 2024
- Alan T0 contributionsA must see if you like opulence and tasteThis may have been the most opulent yet tasteful house we have ever visited. We have traveled for 50 years seeing Versailles numerous country houses in England, château in France. other houses in other countries, including a Newport, Rhode Island USA. They all are obviously homes of rich people with way too much money to spend. However, in this case, the money was very well. Spent with an emphasis on good taste as well. We hart ally recommend this on visit to Rome if it all possible.Written 20 November 2024
- Randy G0 contributionsHistory and beautyThe castle was impressive. Loved the views from the top! There is construction going on but it didnt impede our fun! Very beautiful sights of the city.Written 19 November 2024
