Excellent Experience
Sep. 2019 • Couples
Niccolo (our guide and Chef) walked with us around Florence, as we visited a bakery, a coffee shop, and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar tasting, before arriving at a the restaurant, Olio, where he taught us how to make gnocchi, eggplant and biscotti. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch we prepared. It was a small (6 people) group, and we had personal attention. It was an excellent experience. I would sign up for this class again and again!!

Frankly disappointed....
Jul. 2019 • Couples
After reading previous reviews, we were looking forward to this class but were quite disappointed. The stops at bakery, coffee and olive oil shop were ok, but it would have been much more interesting to visit the local markets and even bought food to cook. Everything seemed very staged and rote, without much enthusiasm by the leader/chef. Not once did she try and engage the group to introduce themselves and get to know each other, which was a first in classes we've taken before. Helping the group get to know each other makes for a better experience. While we did preparation we couldn't be in the kitchen to see it cook as the restaurant area was very small. Also, being more generous with the wines would have added to the experience. Overall, way over priced and over promised experience.

Dear Sharon, first of all thank you for joining a Florencetown tour. We appreciate the time and effort you have spared to give us this review. We always accept all reviews as an essential element in our strive to continually maintain and exceed expectations, as well as provide the highest standards on our tours. I am sorry to read the tour did not meet your expectations. Our apologies for this, first of all. You booked our VIP Semi-private Cooking Masterclass and Florence Food Walking tour, which (as the name and its description say) includes a food walking tour before the actual class, to discover a few authentic bottegas and have some tastings of local gourmet food there. We have two other different cooking classes which both include a visit to the market. So probably these two other cooking classes would have better matched the kind of experience you were looking for. I absolutely agree with you when you say that the personal touch that such a small-group class allows (having a maximum of 10 guests) should make the difference, and the atmosphere that a class like this should have is friendly and intimate. It is difficult for me to understand which chef was on the class as we have a team of chefs and I do not know the date in which you joined the tour. That kind of atmosphere is the one our chef are usually great at creating, as you can read from the other reviews. But it is clear that it wasn't the case for your tour. I will try my best to investigate and see which chef was on the tour to talk to her and understand what happened. Again, our apologies for this. Let me please invite everyone to read several reviews on our tours, to have a more complete perspective on the quality that Florencetown delivers on them. Thank you for your feedback and looking forward to welcoming you back to Florence! Best regards Edoardo Giacometti Director of Regular Tours - Florencetown

The stops before cooking were amazing (loved the olive oil store). I learned a ton in the class and enjoyed getting copies of the recipes. The only disappointment were the two young children in our class.

A must do for a true, local experience
This excursion was 5 hours in length. We started by meeting our tour guide/chef in the Piazza de Repubblica. She first took us to a local bakery to provide us with some history of the different breads that are made and used in Florence. She then took us to a local coffee shop to sample a few different types of coffee. Lastly, we made it over Olio & Convivium where we cooked a full lunch of Gnocchi and Eggplant Parmigiana with a biscotti dessert. This was an incredible activity and I would highly recommend it to anyone that has an interest in local cuisine and cooking. Matina (sp?), our tour guide and chef, was incredible, so ask for her if you can.

Wonderful day!
May 2019 • Couples
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to the culinary delights of Florence. After visiting a pastry shop, a coffee shop, and an olive oil store we went back to all three later in the week, delighted to know where to find such delectable treats! And, importantly, we very much enjoyed learning how to cook some new dishes. Fun, fun day!

Foodies Delight
May 2019 • Friends
Our small group experience early in our visit to Florence was the perfect introduction to good food and wine in the city. Chef Matteu took us to his favorite bakery and coffee venues, sharing tips on finding the most authentic food in Italy. The walk around the city was easy and quite entertaining. We then settled into a local restaurant to prepare our meal of Eggplant Parmesan, gnocchi with pesto, and biscotti. Our lunch was served with the perfect pairing of wine. Delizioso! Chef Matteu was a great host. We highly recommend this experience.
