Highlights
  • Meet artisanal producers and taste their products
  • Learn about parmigiano reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, and prosciutto at the source
  • Maximize time with a private driver
What to expect
  • First thing in the morning, depart Florence by train for Bologna. Meet your private driver at the Bologna train station and set out for the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese factory. See all the steps in the production process of Parmigiano Reggiano, an artisan cheese made only in the Emilia Romagna countryside. Witness the morning delivery of milk from local farmers, crafting the curds, and the final aging process. The tour finishes with a Parmigiano Reggiano tasting, including cheese aged 16 to 36 months, alongside a glass of local Lambrusco. The tour continues at a traditional Acetaia, where certified Balsamic Vinegar (Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena D.O.P, aged minimum 12 years) is made. An Acetaia is not a factory, but a place where a single family produces small amounts of fine balsamic vinegar using ancient techniques of aging grapes in a series of oak barrels. The tour includes a tasting of balsamic that is 12 years and 25 years old. The next stop is a prosciutto factory in Savigno, a small village in the hills outside Bologna. Taste slices of prosciutto di Modena D.O.P with a glass of local Lambrusco wine. Finally, enjoy an authentic Italian lunch in the countryside at either a traditional trattoria or a certified organic winery. The day finishes with a multi-course lunch paired with local wines. Afterwards, your private driver brings you back to the train station in Bologna.

This tour is everything! We sought to immerse ourselves in the food —the history, the tastes of the Emilia-Romagna region and got so much more. Alessandro our guide has great passion for sharing the food, the stories and the people behind the history and flavors of this region. This all day tour was also enjoyed tremendously by our children ages 16, 12 and 7. My kids said it was their favorite tour yet and were sad when it ended! Memories engaging with Italy to last a lifetime!

Pack an appetite for this experience. This was a great time, and I would highly recommend this experience for anyone. We started early with a trip to see them make the cheese, then down the road for the Balsamic Vinegar tour and our first tasting. Then on to the Prosciuto location where you learn how they make it, and another tasting with some more wine. Finally off to the luncheon up in the hills with a beautiful view. And the food was tremendous. With many tastings/food tours you get a few samples and walk away satisfied, but still hungry. That is not the case with this tour. You are well fed, learn a lot, and have a great time with the guide(s) along the way. Highly recommend this tour.

What an awesome day we had. We got so much information, so much to try (eat & drinks), it was really a lovely experience. We called the tour the highlight of our trip. Allessandro and DJ were awesome! Thank you so much for this experience. We loved every minute of it.
If you are in doubt, don't hesitate any longer. I am usually sceptic on this type of tour, but it was a small group, a lot of personal attention (also in the factories; you could see that Allessandro knew the

I cannot say enough amazing things about this tour! It was recommended by a friend and it certainly lived up to the expectations if not exceeding them. My fiance and I are big cooks (and of course eaters as well). It was so great getting to see how the parm/balsamic/prosciutto are made and learning so much. Our tour guide Alessandro was incredible and made the tour even better. He was enthusiastic and had so much information to share. You get to see and taste so many different things along the way that you don't even realize you have been on a tour for hours! The final meal was also incredible. SO much food and wine and just an overall fantastic time. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Highly recommend!!!

This tour was undoubtedly a highlight of our two-week trip in Italy. Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna area are well known for their food and hospitality and this tour offers both. We were in a small group with three other couples. Our guide, Alessandro, had a palpable enthusiasm that made the whole day a blast.

The tours themselves are informative and if you are truly interested in the processes for making these Italian delights, you will learn a lot. If you are there simply to eat and drink, you will eat and drink A LOT. And if, like us, you are interested in both, then you are in for a fantastic day.

Note that the excursion does start early so you are able to see the making of the parmagiano reggiano (those cows are early risers). But you will be served a full, tasty breakfast replete with wine so you won't be hungry for long.

The "light lunch" as described by Alessandro, consisted of a selection of meats and cheeses, three pasta courses, a secondi, dessert, I think 11(!) bottles of wine (lost count) and some after lunch drinks. We more than believe we got our money's worth and would highlight recommend this experience to anyone.

Fascinating, fun, & most definitely filling. Highly recommended. Our trip was in Oct 2018, & one of the highlights of our trip to Bologna, & Bologna itself I think is my favourite Italian city so far.

I'm not sure what I can add to the other incredibly positive reviews other than to say we had the same phenomenal experience. Alessandro (not the owner) is a massive part of making the day special. He is insanely witty, entertaining, passionate, and well-educated.

I generally avoid all-day tours, because it's a big commitment (in case it sucks) and it can be exhausting. This tour was enjoyable start-to-finish. It was well-paced and never seemed to dwelled too long on a particular subject.

This is the food and wine tour you want to take when you're in Italy. It is 10 hours of tasting amazing DOP products, learning how they get made in the presence of the makers, and drinking delicious local wine. If you enjoy food or any of the netflix food specials, take this tour. The gourmet late lunch at the end is one of the best meals I've ever eaten and it introduced my husband and I to our new favorite pasta dish.

TLDR: all the high praise is true, book this tour
