About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- MaryK18060 contributionsTime well spentThere were 6 of us on the tour with “Frank” (Francesco). We’re all gardeners, and Frank made a point of showing us interesting plants, such as the oldest Plane tree in Italy. He gave us a ton of information about the history of the area, making it fun for us by giving us “points” for remembering important facts. He checked often that we were absorbing what he told us and would say things in different ways to make sure we got it. He had several visuals aids (maps, old photos, etc) that helped bring history alive. Thoroughly enjoyable and valuable 3 hours!Written 7 October 2024

- Denise R0 contributionsWonderful ExperienceOur tour guide was not available on the day, but sent another “Maria” in her place which was kind of her. Our Maria was an absolute delight from the moment we met her. We learned so much about the history of Verona, from the Romans to the families who influenced the culture and customs under various rulers and factions. Her manner was charming and made all the details more like “fun facts”. Would highly recommend this tour and if you’re fortunate enough to encounter “Maria” that will be a bonus. Thank you Denise and SallyWritten 24 September 2024
- P6382RZmonicas0 contributionsLearned the History!Barbara was knowledgeable about her beautiful city. She was able to answer all our questions, and even asked us why we thought an event might have taken place. Like your favorite teacher would to help keep you interested. We would highly recommend Barbara for a personal tour when in Bologna.Written 9 September 2024
- RichardAW490 contributionsThunderstorms didn't dull Hidden Gems of VeronaWhat a way to start a walking tour - thunderstorms in Verona. But any concerns about the background weather were soon swept away by Francesco's bright and enthusiastic love and admiration for his city and his ability to share it all with us. While the rain dampened down, Francesco's engaging stories about Verona didn't. He not only led us through, and demonstrated evidence of, the history of the city (including a visit to a department store to show us the ruins of portion of an ancient Roman wall within the shop, explaining to us how many Roman towns had been "built over" through the centuries), but also related the true stories behind the tales of Romeo and Juliet and the powerful families of the city and their contributions to the history of Verona. Starting with a visit to the Roman arena, an amphitheatre still in use for concerts today, through seeing evidence of some of Napoleon's time in the city, visiting the market, discussing how the City has rules to maintain its unique architecture and appearance and ending up with the (not so old) tourist attraction of Juliet's balcony, Francesco kept us interested and informed throughout the whole tour. A walking, enlightening tour not to be missed!Written 8 September 2024
- Stephanie K0 contributionsFabulous fun tour of VeronaFrancesco was full of interesting information and anecdotes as he explained the Roman and Medieval history of Verona. He avoided the busy areas and he tailored the tour to our particular interests. We also stopped at a pasta making shop and a fabulous delicatessen with an incredible view! Our group of 10 loved our morning with Francesco!Written 7 August 2024

She told us great stories about the history of Verona. She made sure we kept a walking pace that was good for us while still seeing as much as possible. She was so much fun and made our first day in Verona so memorable. We absolutely recommend this tour with Maria Pia.Written 4 July 2024
- mnaida0 contributionsBeautiful Winery, Not Enough of Lake Gardaour guide was Alessandro, he was a delight , very knowledgeable, and very personable. We went to a beautiful family winery Boghetti Vineyard--Barbara was very welcoming and presented an outstanding wine tasting. Then went to the Lake Garda region , stopped at a large villa on the lake for a glass of wine and some pictures. The reason for 4 out of 5 is I did not feel I got to see Lake Garda enough--only from one location. We got to Lake Garda around 5pm on a Sunday when everyone was leaving to return home so the traffic was very heavy, thus the reason we did not see more of the lake.Written 19 May 2024

He perfectly adjusted the tour to our needs and preferences but he didn’t missed to point out some real important things to himself, that he wanted us to know. It felt like walking Verona with a friend. And we really enjoyed every minute with him.Written 7 May 2024

" Federico was the perfect guide to show us around his beautiful city! He took us to some amazing sights and we were blown away by the delicious food and drink that was provided. Federico even adapted our tour and encorporated some history and culture which ended with a lovely bottle of chilled local wine. I would recommend his tour to anyone that is looking for a relaxed tour of the city, we managed to see and taste things that we would never had found. Federico made us feel welcome straight away; we didnt stop laughing the whole way and it was great to hear about his travels to Spain and the UK. Thankyou for your hospitality, will book again when we return !!! "

Maurizio is a unique local guide. His high energy enthusiasm, likeable personality with a well travelled rock music background was very engaging. He gave our small family group a truly authentic local food tasting tour with drinking and chatting. An entertaining and enjoyable experience we won't forget. Highly recommended if you want to discover a more chilled out side of Roman life. Salute Maurizio!

Giuliana took a group of 9 of us on a Monday afternoon tour. Giuliana is friendly and knowledgeable about her city. The food was delicious and the walking tour was fun and not overly strenuous. Giuliana brought us to places we would never have found on our own. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Giuliana was a pleasure to spend time with. Also, I originally booked this tour for 6 people and Giuliana was very helpful when I needed to add people to it. It wasn't possible to do it directly through the Withlocals website without cancelling and starting again which would have caused cancellation charges. Thank you Giuliana!

The whole tour was perfectly paced from start to finish and the tour guides knowledge made it a fascinating trip to Verona like the church we started at being visited by Mozart where he scribed his naw in the piano. What better way to see a place than with a guided tour of food and wine! We sampled the most lovely food from little breads where you could choose your topping to double crunch pizza at the beautiful square to the BEST dessert place ever - flego! Luckily they had lots of mini desserts because I was already quite full by then. Our guide Martina was so friendly and chatty and we were so comfortable. I would 100% recommend this tour.

Alessandro was the perfect host to guide us through Verona! We knew very little about this small city before our tour and Alessandro went into great depth sharing it’s complex history- not just the larger history but the fine details and pointing out things we would have never noticed. Details of the frescos, statues, marble sidewalks, windows, mosaics, churches, bridges, buildings that brought the past to life and have us a sense of the people who lived there. He chose food stops off the tourist path that were fantastic and gave us an authentic taste of what the residents enjoy eating. He gave us additional suggestions for activities and dining to continue exploring after the tour ended. He is a lifelong resident and his love for his hometown is evident. His tour was the highlight of our time in Verona! If you love history, delicious authentic food, and making a new friend, please spend time in Verona with Alessandro!

Michelle was awesome! She took us to see cheese making (and tasting) then a farm with the famous black pigs. Afterwards we went to a restaurant/farm and sampled the famous Culatello salami which was delicious. We also had a nice lunch and yummy desserts. Michelle even helped us with places to see in Parma after our tour. Recommending restaurants, places to park and yummy gelato. Her heart is really in it when she talks about how they produce the cheese and salami. You can tell she cares for the artisans of this trade.

Food tours have become part of our travel experiences now. We have done many and this one did not disappoint. Martina was our guide and we really enjoyed her knowledge and company. We sampled lots of food (some unusual and glad to have had opportunity to try) and beverages. We took a day trip from Venice to Verona so we had only one day in Verona. This was the way to do it. Martina brought us to all the scenic sites, taught us the history of the city and we ate a lot while doing it. What could be more perfect?! See, learn and taste the city at the same time. We also loved that Martina joined us while eating! I would have been awkward if she watched us eat but that was never an issue. She loves the local food too and joined right in with us which made us so happy.

I booked this tour for me and my husband on a whim just to give us something to do for the weekend...and it was an excellent decision! Our guide Cristina responded to us within an hour to inquire about our food preferences and to also ensure that we didn’t have any allergies which we found to be very helpful and thoughtful. Once we met up at the designated time, she was very informative about each place we went to and she showed us some different restaurants that we may not have ventured into had we visited Verona on our own. At each place, she asked us if we wanted photos and let us take our time to marvel at everything after explaining the history behind it. We even got to see the arena which was sooo beautiful in person. If you want a tour guide that is going to show you more than just the typical tourists routes, book with Cristina. She made our experience worthwhile.
