What to expect
In the afternoon, meet your storytelling guide at the city’s Arena amphitheater, an ancient Roman artifact that pre-dates the Colosseum and has been in use for more than 2,000 years. From here, set off on a 1.5-hour stroll through Verona's winding medieval streets while your guide offers an overview of the city’s ancient roots and fascinating history. Although the Capulet and Montague families are fictional, Verona’s past is ripe with stories of fatal feuds, romance, and drama that made it a natural setting for Shakespeare's tragedy. Let your imagination run wild with visions of young love and secret trysts at Juliet’s House, a historic home featuring a much-visited balcony and statue of the doomed protagonist (though any Shakespearean connections here are dubious). Continue on to Herbs Square, lined by a bustling local market and stately palaces. Learn the history behind landmarks including Lamberti Tower, the Madonna Verona fountain, and the medieval Domus Mercatorum, one-time home of the city’s merchant guild. See evidence of Verona's multilayered past at Signori Square, where Roman, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and modern architecture converge in a fascinating urban landscape. Finally, wind through quiet courtyards and backstreets to reach the tombs of the Scala family, a ruling clan of the 13th and 14th centuries whose scandals and power struggles are reminiscent of the tangled family feuds in Romeo and Juliet.

What a wonderful way to experience Verona! We visited for the day from Venice & booked the Juliet & Romeo tour but we got so much more than that! Francesco met us on time at the agreed meeting point & asked us what we wanted to get from our time with him - we asked for the complete history! Francesco was great fun & engaged with all 4 of us (2 adults & 2 teenagers - well 12 & 14) - we laughed & learned from before the Romans right up to now - such an interesting & important city. We would never have gained such an insight to Verona from a guidebook or map - spending time with Francesco is a must if visiting Verona - the tour completely changed our view of the city & has left us wanting to go back & see more of it! Francesco was generous with his time, effort & enthusiasm. Fantastic! Thank you so much Francesco & we hope to meet you again 😊🤣👍

Nice tour

It was a nice experience, our guide Francesco knows a lot, he focused the tour based on the topics we were interested on. Time was shared with Italian speakers, this hold us a little bit, nevertheless very interesting facts from the history of Verona.

Pleasant stroll around the city and we learned of its history from Roman to Shakespearean times. A fascinating city and an engaged and knowledgable guide.

the guide makes all the difference. Ours was amazing, very knowledgeable, flexible, and honest. She debunked the myth of Juliet's balcony, showed us great places to get a bite o eat, and kept us in the shade from the hot summer sun wherever possible. She made the own come alive for us. if Lorella is available, get her.

Beware booking this cooking class online.
My wife and I booked this home cooking class on Viator for the same evening, after the website showed availability.
