Overview

Bologna is the largest city in Northern Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, and it just so happens to be the perfect place to familiarize yourself with Italian cuisine. On this 8-hour tour, visit boutique producers of prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, and wine, and savor four different samples of food and wine along the way. After you’ve worked up an appetite at each producer’s grounds, head over to a family-run restaurant for a 6-course Italian lunch, including house-made pasta and local wines.

What to Expect

Depending on the option you chose at checkout, get picked up from your hotel in Bologna at 8am, the train station at 8:15am, or the airport at 8:30am.

Listen to your guide's commentary as you travel in an air-conditioned minivan to your first stop — a local Parmesan cheese factory. Tour the production area, go through the steps of making Parmesan cheese, and step into the aging room where you can see some 30,000 cheese wheels. You'll also get a chance to sample authentic cheeses of different ages.

Continue on to your next stop, a prosciutto producer. Salt cellars, rest cellars, hot rooms, and aging rooms are all on the agenda here. After an inside look, taste prosciutto from the producer accompanied by wine.

Hop back in the minivan until you reach the boutique balsamic vinegar producer that’s third on your itinerary. Journey down to the cellars, where more than 1,000 barrels of Italy’s true treasure is stored, along with an ancient batch from 1870 that belonged to the owner’s great grandfather. Try some of the balsamic vinegar while you learn family recipes and secrets.

Make your way to a local winery, and walk through the beautiful vineyards with the sommelier. Taste some of the popular drink choices with input from this wine connoisseur. Then, end with a visit to a family-run restaurant in the area. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a 6-course gourmet lunch, including house-made pasta and local wine.

Get dropped off at your hotel or selected end destination after lunch.

Caution, Food Coma ahead!
