About
San Giovanni Rotondo is famous all over the world as the native city of St. Pio (known as Padre Pio) of Pietrelcina, and as the city where the venerated monk worked his miracles. Pio was beatified in 2002. In the Capuchin Monastery Padre Pio received the stigmata in 1918, and there where all those supernatural events that led to his sainthood and canonization took place as well. Visiting this Monastery and viewing the chambers where St. Pio conducted his life means jumping into a context of spirituality and mysticism; it is a destination that the devout and tourists alike should make every effort to visit.

- ariastricindy0 contributionsPerfect way to see Rome!!That was the way to see Rome!! Our own private driver and tour guides. No lines no waiting. We had them all to ourselves and the experience was amazing. We saw so much with ease. The guides were warm, attentive, accommodating! We don't speak Italian so there was some difficulty understanding, at times, with our jet lagged brains or I would have given it a 5 star.Written 22 September 2024
- 611emanuell0 contributionsGreat experience, and must doThe tour guide was very knowledgeable and knew all of the history. He took us on a trip through time and explained all of the events relating to the Holy House. He explained the creativity behind the aestetics of the Holy House. I would definitely do it again. If you are staying in Loreto this company does tours as well.Written 7 September 2024

The day was filled with adventure and even though we could not do the boat ride because of rough waters it was worth taking this tour! The views and the sights of the island are absolutely stunning! The lunch we had was off the charts! We were treated like royalty!Written 13 March 2024

- jonoQ2029KX0 contributionsA wonderful and moving experience! Our family of 5 from the US booked this trip as an excursion for a day to get out of busy Rome. A beautiful trip to the more rural Adriatic side of Italy. Two deeply moving spiritual sites that cannot be expressed with words. Francesco and Roberto took amazing care of us for the day and also sprinkled in some walks of the local towns along the way, local food (amazing arrosticini!!), and other surprises we appreciated. Thank you both again for a wonderful day!!Written 28 October 2023
- 20aldab0 contributionsA great to end Italy tripI could never have imagined a more beautiful experience from our recent day trip to Assisi and Cascia. A BIG Grazie to our tour host Juliana and her team Roberto, Rita and Madelina for their fantastic effort. They were tireless, very patient, friendly, considerate and made us feel special and like family all day long. Juliana and Roberto plus their excellent tour guides provided such a great insight into the history/story of the three saints. They allowed us to venerate, meditate, pray and connect with the peace of St Francis, St Claire and St Rita. So much to see, so many little things we never knew and learned with constant pleasant surprises at every turn make this tour into a life changing experience. This was one of the greatest tours my mum and I had in Italy. I highly recommend booking this luxury tour to Assissi and Cascia.Written 25 September 2023
- TravelorsRock0 contributionsExcellent Gem with Impressionist too!We spent two hours in this museum and enjoyed every bit of it. There have a wonderful grouping of lions sculptures on the steps as you enter. It looks like a pride lounging. I wanted to pet them. Inside there was a notable set of dog sculpture that looks to be in a tussle. There were many Spanish impressionist painting as well as a Van Gogh, two Courbets, a few Rodins and a single Cezanne. The rest of the museum had wonderful juxtaposition between modern and classic. Often we would look through the rooms to see a classical sculpture next to very modern pieces. Loved it. There is a nice cafe with table service. There of course were bathrooms, downstairs, and lockers for your backpack. There is a bus/tram stop right out front. Definitely worth a few hours of time!Written 7 September 2023
- C8259JIdianar0 contributionsMystical & Peaceful..I recommend taking a tour to make sure to visit the Chapel and the modern Church! A beautiful Mural Mosaic story telling comparative between Saint Francis of Assisi and Padre Pio not to be missed🙏🏼Written 2 September 2023
- JACKI880 contributionsAbove and Beyond Expectations!!This tour exceeded all expectations. Rosanna was an amazing guide who went above and beyond to make our experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. This trip was a personal pilgrimage for my 84 year old mother. Rosanna was able to secure us a private tour of the monastery, an audience with one of the sisters, with whom she could share her personal experiences with St Rita, and a first hand look at a new relic gifted to the basilica. My mother will never forget this trip. Her joy brings tears to my eyes whenever I think about it. And the trip to Roccaporena was the icing on the cake. Thank you Rosanna!!!Written 16 August 2023

- sofiau9380 contributionsAmazing!!!What an amazing and unforgettable experience we had with Rome Italy Explora. We spent three full days with Bianca, the most amazing tour guide, to Capri one day, Amalfi the next day, and ended at the Colosseum on the last. Our trip to Rome would have not been the same without theses experiences and amazing hospitality. We learned so much from Bianca and shared so many great memories as a family together! We hope to make it back to Italy soon and share more great memories with Explora.Written 11 July 2023

This Adventure was delayed 2 years by COVID. We kept in touch with Rossana, through Viator and made this fantastic tour a few days ago.
My wife’s wish was to make this pilgrimage to her Patron Saint’s Shrine. Padre Pio played a major role in our lives during recovery of several health situations.
We concluded that Rossana’s Tour was the Best and possibly the only reasonable way to make this journey. We at first thought the trip was pricey, but looking back Rossana’s Personal Tour was priceless.
Picking you up at the Hotel, Rosanna introduces Luigi, your driver for the day. He is an excellent pilot!
She then explains that her intention is to show us a most special day visiting Padre Pio’s Shrine and other Pertinent Sites. Actually, Rossana provided a carefully choreographed experience meeting our expectations perfectly.
Following the religious/spiritual and emotional happening of viewing Padre Pio, one connects with the Padre’s life and after death. The harmony throughout was very meaningful.
Rossana was amazing throughout showing appropriate empathy and continuing the storylines concluding with a beautiful late lunch at Tia Daniele Restorante.
I could go on, but simply put we appreciate Rossana and the Driver Luigi for the total, never to be forgotten, experience!

Amazing day with Luigi and Rossana up in San Giovanni Rotondo. My brother and I were doing a pilgrimage through a few sacred sites in Italy, so Rossana made sure to reserve time for Mass and prayer in addition to observation of the incorrupt body of St. Padre Pio. We had time to visit his "cella" (apartment we're he lived), and the convent and old church we're he preached. Precious opportunity, amazing views. We had lunch at a local restaurant with super good food before heading back to Rome. Recommend this trip to anyone who wants to have a taste of Italy's Adriatic Coast and explore the mistery of a blessed mystic saint of modern times. Professionally handled by Rome Italy Explora, I recommend it highly.

As a devotee, I hope people can differentiate tourist spot from sacred places like this one.
San Giovanni Rotondo is Far from cities but reachable with public transportation. A beautiful place but we were there for 4-5hrs.
Overall, its nice to add in your journey to see the pilgrims of Padre Pio.
