Excellent tour
Aug. 2021
We toured the Borghese Gallery with Lia at the beginning of August. It was wonderful to have such a passionate guide. All visits are limited to a 2 hour time slot and Lia helped us make the most of our visit. She educated us about the evolution of various painting styles and drew our attention to details in the sculptures and paintings that we otherwise wouldn't have noticed. There was a Damien Hirst exhibit on while we were there and Lia also helped make it interesting and relevant for us. We really enjoyed our time with Lia.

The Borghese was one of our favourite Rome experiences. The art was exceptional, and brought to life with Lia's wonderful energy and knowledge. We couldn't recommend the tour, and Lia more highly!

Passion and Personality
Dec. 2019
Lia's enthusiasm, knowledge and appreciation for the art made this an
outstanding afternoon at the Borghese. She chose exactly the right
masterpieces to show us - with just the right amount of information
about each one. She answered every question we had and seemed to know
the gallery as if she'd lived there her whole life. She was generous,
warm - and very, very funny. The three of us loved her and would
definitely ask for her again. We will never forget the gorgeous work
she showed us; nor will we forget her.

Valentina was a great guide. Extremely knowledgeable about all aspects
of the fine artworks. We had very little knowledge of the gallery, but
Valentina was very patient and explained things in detail. She was
charming and funny and a definite highlight of our trip to Rome.

Galleria Borghese
Nov. 2019
My husband and I enjoyed a private tour of Galleria Borghese with Cecilia, a well-informed art historian at WithLocals. Cecilia’s description and explanation of lesser-known artwork was truly enlightening. Cecilia was both engaging and enthusiastic. Because it was a private tour, we were able to move at a pace that suited our needs, and still allowed time to see everything. For us, the highlight and reason for our visit was to see Bernini’s sculptures of Apollo and Daphne, and of Pluto and Persephone. The myths of these two couples, combined with the artist’s interpretation and sculpting left us in a state of awe! Beware...the circular staircase between levels can be challenging for folks with joint issues. However, there is an elevator of sorts, which we chose not to explore.

Spectacular guide made the difference
Oct. 2019
Our guide (I think was Francisco - could have been Fernando, memory being what it is) was spectacular. He led us through a intimate story from beginning of the tour to end...allowing us inside the inspiration, spirit, politics and most importantly artistic story/evolution of Bernini (most importantly) but also Raphael and the Borghese Museum and its founder Cardinal Borghese. This drew us into the phenomenal evolution of this artist who had so much significance - whose style of dynamic realism defined the Baroque era and beyond. It was captivating and revealed so much more than just viewing the sculptures and pieces on their own. He focused on the key pieces in depth rather than trying to cover everything (which could not possibly be done anyway in two hours) which left us with much deeper appreciation of the process and outcomes of these great artists. Bravo! The earphones worked well (although not as comfortable as the sets we wore on another tour) but who noticed this as we were drawn into the story.
