About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- acmejia0 contributionsGorgeous day along the Via AppiaThe bikes are good, comfortable. The Via Appia is gorgeous! But the big stones are hard to bike over (you can go in the dirt path on the side because the patches of big stones aren’t that long). Trust me, you want an electric mountain bike unless you are a pro bicyclist. I did Via Appia and the Acueduct park but there is a stretch in the directions given connecting the two areas that is under construction and closed to all traffic so for a while I had to navigate on my own (a detour was not obvious). The acueductos are nice but I sort of wish spending more time on Via Appia since some of the streets in between were very heavily trafficked and kind of dangerous. But I enjoyed it very much. What would make it even better is if the bikes had a cellphone holder so I can just follow the map while biking and not have to stop every 5 mins to take my phone out of my pocket to look at the map. The attendant was very pleasant and knowledgeable 🫶Written 4 October 2024
- Alicia S0 contributionsThanks for a fun and beautiful dayThis was a very fun day. The staff started by making sure we had helmets that fit and the right sized bikes with the seats set correctly. The ride itself was a world away from the hustle and bustle of Rome. We stopped a number of times to learn about the history of the Appian Way. The staff was happy to take pictures of us on many parts of the ride. They also called ahead for a lunch reservation for a table overlooking the lake. It was enchanting. Such a gorgeous view. On the way back we saw an aqueduct and learned some more history. We were a bit sore but had a great time. Bus 660 is so convenient too, it drops you off right across the street. Thanks for a great day!Written 2 October 2024
- 414ruthl0 contributionsOnce in a lifetime trip in Rome! This is my second time on this bike trip to the Appian Way but added the catacombs tour too! Our guide Ricardo was knowledgeable and funny! I also got to meet our previous guide Alberto! Both of these guides are amazing. They are patient and careful to guide us through the streets of Rome all the way to the Appian Way! The catacombs tour was definitely worth it. Eye opening and quite a feat to have tombs underground. The archaeologist was insightful and explained things very clearly! I would highly recommend this bike trip!Written 1 October 2024
- H5157AEnickg0 contributionsAppian Way and Aqueducts Bike Tour 8/10We were a group of 6 people who had 9:15 booking. Our tour guide Emmanuel was excellent in both his vast knowledge and friendly and helpful manner. It was an excellent way to see the Aqueducts and get outside of the city of Rome to see more of the countryside and witness the variety of vegetation that stands along the Appian Way. We were navigated through the city which was a little intimidating amidst the busy Rome streets, however it our guide was helpful and instilled confidence by telling us “if you can bike in Rome you can bike anywhere” with a charming smile. Long day and make sure bring extra water, however there were a few places along our journey to stop and get a snack. You can certainly bring premade italian sandwiches with you. Overall a worthwhile experience and nice to do something active while on vacation. If you intend to book a day of biking I suggest bringing or buying bile shorts.Written 25 September 2024

- Mat W0 contributionsGreat value and funMetro then bus to get there. Missed 24 hr reservation window so arrived on spec as family of five. Friendly guy kitted us out with 5 great eBikes inc one for the 10yo. 75eu all in for two hours: great value, and really fun. Got lost but that was my fault; if you prematurely end the Google map route provided, restart it 'from your location' otherwise you won't get turn by turn instructions. Two hours got us down appia antica and round the acqueduct. Tip: reserve if you can, and take ID.Written 25 July 2024

This tour is highly recommended for people of all fitness levels. Our tour guide was outstanding, even taking us to extra spots since it was our last day. It was such a fantastic experience! We will definitely return in the future ❤️🇮🇹Written 13 July 2024
- petermB4730JN0 contributionsAWESOMEWe had a really great experience. Our tour guide Noem asked us if we wanted to stick to the city center, but we had actually already seen most of the highlights by walking. So he suggested we get out of city and ride the Apia Way. What a great suggestion. Was really peaceful and you could feel the history and steps of generations past. Cheers to Noem for a wonderful morning!! Elliott & KatieWritten 9 July 2024
- Rokabok0 contributionsGreat way to see RomeEven in the middle of a heatwave, Ricardo made sure we completed the itinerary and stayed safe. He provided fascinating insights about each landmark and gave us ample time to take photographs and refill our water bottles. Make sure to listen to his instructions if you aren't familiar with riding a bicycle in road traffic. He even carried everyone's e-bikes up many stairs! We mentioned having a reservation right after and he made sure we would make it. Thank you, Ricardo!Written 4 July 2024
- orrsuz0 contributionsFun way to see a different side of RomeWe chose this particular tour to avoid the heat of the hottest day of our trip and avoid having to navigate Roman traffic. This tour begins right on the Appian Way and we spent a good amount of the hottest part of the trip underground in the Catacombs so a win on both points. We were a bit worried about the bumps given all the reviews - we are fairly active but not super sporty but our guide did an awesome job of showing us the best path to minimize the bumps (which our teenager ignored and declared the activity awesome) and stopping traffic when we occasionally needed to cross a road. When we came out of the catacombs we had a lovely ride in the cooler golden hour which felt like a world away from the hustle of Rome. Probably the best activity we have done on our trip across Italy. Highly recommend.Written 28 June 2024
- Natasha1590 contributionsE-bike a fabulous way to see RomePrivate E bike tour of Rome was the highlight of our trip. Getting up to wonderful viewpoints easy with the e bikes. And spent 4 hours touring around Rome with Saba our guide. Highlights - coming around a corner to discover another Roman ruin or huge statue, the Borghese gardens, or a great cityscape. Thanks Saba and Bicycle RomaWritten 26 June 2024

A great tour for those that wish to see a different side to the city. Beautiful scenery with plenty of water stops on the way. Our lovely guide Peter took great care of us and kept us safe for the duration of the trip. The bikes were great but be aware that this tour takes longer than 3 hours. There are plenty of rest stops in the shade but it would be a good idea to take snacks or lunch with you. This is a trip that the whole family enjoyed. Great communication from the company prior to our arrival.

This tour was the highlight if our time in Rome. We saw the reviews and thought it was too good to be true, but it lived up to the hype! Philippe was just incredible, so kind, and full of knowledge and passion.
We took the tour on our last full day in Rome, and it was a breathe of fresh air to cycle outside the city centre and experience something so beautiful and serene. Not to mention how historically significant the Appian way is.
We loved our time with Philippe and would happily meet again for another tour (or wine?)

What a great way to explore a wider area! Alberto welcomed us at the Ondino sports club and checked our level of ability before setting up the bikes. It was a leisurely pace with clear signals and he explained about local areas and history as we went past. We chose the option to explore aqueducts and catacombs, and the trip included stops for these. We also had the chance to stop to view Bernini’s Salvator Mundi. Such a good trip that we later went back on foot to further explore the Appian Way, Parco degli Acquedotti and Cestius’ pyramid. A very highly recommended trip and a great way to start a holiday - but take padded cycling shorts if you own them…

Our tour guide Sabrina was awesome! She went above and beyond to make sure we saw as much of the city of Rome beyond the major sites as possible by taking routes off the beaten path. We saw many things beyond just the catacombs and Appian Way and it really made the experience worth it. Wouldn’t be a trip to Rome without seeing things without all the tourists around. Sabrina also was more than willing to bike an extra 20km if we wanted to, we never felt rushed at all.

This was a a terrific way to get out of the center of Rome and see the Appian Way and the aqueducts. We chose not to add on the admittance to the Catacombs. Our guide (Emanuele) was a great cyclist and good leader. The ride necessarily started and ended by going on and across some busy streets in Rome, so the tour is not for the timid or inexperienced rider. The e-bikes were great and made it possible to cover a lot of territory.

Alessio from Bicycl-e led us on a beautiful 5 hour journey beside the Tiber, past Circus Maximus (where we raced!) and along part of the Appian Way. We saw the Catacombs, had a delicious lunch, and went through the countryside to see a farm and buy some cheese from the farm door! Our 3 sons (8y, 11y, 14y) said that it was their favourite day in Rome. Thanks you for the stories and for keeping it safe and fun Alessio!

Alessio was our guide, and he took us through Rome to the old Appian Way and the aqueducts. He was very knowledgeable, clearly enjoyed his job, and provided a truly excellent bike tour that was the best part of our four-day stay in the city. A highly recommended experience for those interested in seeing a bit more of Rome, especially historical areas in the outskirts that seem best accessed by bike.
The motorized bikes were a great benefit. They were easy to operate, and they definitely helped us out during a four-hour tour.

Out of all of the tours we did in Italy, this was by far the best! You get to see some major historical landmarks throughout the city and get to see the beautiful countryside with the aqueducts. Alessio was a great tour guide. If you do any tours in Rome, do this!

Our tour was fantastic. It was scheduled to be a 5 hour tour on the Appian way with stops at the catacombs and aqueducts, but ran longer with our guide stopping at a couple of additonal spots at the group request. Emanuele was a terrific guide and very knowledgeable. He safely guided us through the traffic of Rome and along some of the most beautiful scenery. Highly recommend!

Hi,
I can see that there are two options available as start and end points, but there's nowhere to choose which we would prefer when making a reservation.
What dictates which start and end point is used? Can we make this decision after the tour has been reserved?
Thanks, Phil.

Our departure point was changed while we were in Rome. We didn’t know what it was beforehand though so it didn’t really matter to us. We only knew it changed because they gave us a new address to meet at. These guys are super helpful and I think if you say your preference after you book it, they would accommodate.
Written 13 August 2022
Apparently there are 2 possible start points, but the bikes should be prepared in the correct place. How or when can we select our start point (via dei Cerchi)?
Written 10 April 2022
Hi, on the 3 hour bike tour for the Appian Way, is entrance to the Catacombs included? I think the kids would like to go inside for a quick look. Thanks for your reply. Anna
Written 1 October 2021
Hi Anna, yes we stop at the catacombs and Alessio(our guide) kindly buys the tickets for us and waits for ~45mins till the tour ends.
