Overview
The Vatican Museums are among the most crowded in the world, sometimes having as many 20,000 visitors every day. With this tour, see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the relative peace of early morning, entering the museums an hour before they are open to the public—when you enter the Sistine Chapel, it will still be mostly empty. A small-group size means plenty of personal attention.
What to Expect
Your early morning tour begins at the main entrance to the Vatican Museums. Meet your guide and small group and enter the museums. Walk through the main galleries, including the Room of the Candelabra, Hall of Tapestries, and Gallery of the Maps.

Before reaching the Sistine Chapel, receive a reference map you can use once inside, a useful resource since visitors to the chapel are expected to be silent. Spend around 20 minutes in the room with Michelangelo’s masterpieces.

After exiting the chapel from a side door head straight to St. Peter’s Basilica, skipping security lines. Your guide takes you to see the baroque Baldacchino, La Pieta, and other masterworks.

The last stop is underneath the main floor of the basilica, where hundreds of Popes are buried.

Finish the tour in front of the Basilica.

Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's

Great tour guide from Rome Guy. The Vatican Museums and Sistine were amazing, but St. Peter's was bizarre. More of a shrine to Pope's than a church. There is a Pope's mausoleum on top of St. Peter's tomb!

Yes, the guides wear headsets. Sometimes they just talk to the group without the headsets, though. Every tour group I've been in that used the headsets there are times when hearing the guide is a problem. I think it is just... More

We were in a group of 10-12 but depends on which company you book with. Large groups pay a little less but hard to move inside the Vatican at all.

Our guide asked us 3 times if we needed a break. We had a small group and she did head counts all the time so as not to lose anyone.
