4 great tours: Coliseum, underground Rome, the Vatican and Borghese Gallery
May 2019
We first toured with Joy of Rome 5 years ago and enjoyed being with Francesca so much that we toured again 3 years ago and then again last May. Most recently, we did the fascinating underground Rome tour with the incredibly passionate Francesca, the Coliseum , Forum, and Palatine Hill with Sylvia, the Vatican with Angelica and Borghese Gallery with Francesca. Wow! What experiences. You can’t be around Francesca more than 5 minutes without recognizing how easily and passionately she imparts her vast knowledge of art and history. She is so infectious! Angelica is a guide’s guide. I couldn’t begin to tell you how many times other tourists and even other guides approached her with questions. We found amazing places in the Vatican that most tours don’t see. Be sure to take the longer Vatican tour that includes the Raphael painted apartments. Phenomenal.... Sylvia (bless her heart - it was raining most of the day, but she cheerfully hung with us) made the Coliseum and Forum come alive. We participated in both group tours (6 people) and private tours. Both have their pluses, but if you want a truly customized tour with a soon to be cherished friend, spring for the private tour. We can’t wait to go back to Rome and see more of its history and art with these ladies. David and Rosemarie, Dallas, TX

Four fantastic tours: Highlights of Rome/Borghese Gallery/Caravaggio/Villa Farnesina
Dec. 2019
All 4 of our tours were incredible. We did the "Highlights of Rome Tour" with Jeanette, and the rest with Francesca. Both guides were phenomenal, especially Francesca whose passion for art and history left us leaving with a unique appreciation of the historical context, iconography, and real human stories behind Rome's art and architecture. We left each with a newfound excitement and knowledge of topics we never thought could be so entertaining, and wish the Joy of Rome team the best of success if only for their genuine love of their disciplines, and their enthusiasm to share it. The Caravaggio Tour and Villa Farnesina were our unexpected favourites, and we couldn't recommend them more.

Francesca is Incredible!
Sep. 2019
Francesca was our tour guide on our first trip abroad about five years ago. She set the bar extremely high. We have since been to several countries and cities, with several great tour guides, but Francesca is the best!

We recently had a private tour with her through the Borghese Gallery in Rome. She was outstanding. I know very little about art, and this is the first time I ever enjoyed an art gallery so much. Wow! She is knowledgeable, friendly, interesting, insightful, helpful, etc. etc. Francesca knows her craft, able to precisely explain the details of the various pieces and how they fit into the grand art history timetable. I could not recommend her enough. She is delightful and such a joy to be with. Thank you Francesca

Borghese Gallery with art historian
Nov. 2019 • Solo
Do more than just tour the sites of Rome. This group of educated professional historians will help you see, feel, smell, taste and experience Rome the way the Romans did. Ever wonder what that painter or sculptor was thinking of and trying to create? Learn the stories and meaning behind many of these works of art that you won’t forget. See how our present is closely connected to Rome’s past. Do you or a family member have difficulty walking or children of baring ages? Don’t hesitate to have them guide you. They will accommodate you with ease, style and grace. They will make your trip such a “JOY” and one you will never forget!

Tour with Francesca
Oct. 2019
I wish I could give Francesca more stars. She is an excellent guide. Passionate about art, art history and providing context. Her tour runs in a manner that allows you to experience the art with as few distractions as possible. I only wish I had more time in the Borghese with Francesca.

Amazing art with amazing guide
We were just two on a private tour of the Borghese Gallery with Francesca. She was very knowledgeable and gave use insights and interesting background stories about the artists and the Borghese family. It was fun to hear about everything from someone who is so passionate about sharing art history.

BORGHESE GALLERY WITH FRANCESA
May 2019 • Couples
Francesca was an outstanding guide, with an excellent background in her speciality. She spoke English very well, was easy to understand, and was animated and enthusiastic about sharing the treasures of the Borghese Gallery with us. We loved learning about the history of the gallery, as well as the artists, their lives and masterpieces. All round an excellent tour and guide. Well worth it!

Deserves higher rating, Luca was great
Apr. 2019 • Family
Got to museum 1st thing in the morning spent 3 hours going thru the art, Luca kept my 15yr old son engaged, asking questions and wanting to see more. He considered this the best tour we took while in Italy. Don't short change yourself but not getting this tour, unless you have a art history degree, you will miss so much
