Tour the amphitheater and other sites of Ancient Rome under the atmospheric cover of darkness during this 2.5-hour evening tour. Learn about the ruins of the Roman Forum seen from the Piazza del Campidoglio, and enter the Colosseum after the daytime crowds have disappeared and the temperature has dropped. Visit the arena’s underground chambers, which are closed to most of the public, and stand where gladiators once stood  centuries ago. This tour is limited to 25 people.
What to Expect
Your nighttime tour starts at Piazza Venezia, where you’ll meet your guide. Set off on your leisurely walking tour of Rome’s ancient sites, passing by Trajan’s Column on your way to Capitoline Hill.

Stop at Piazza del Campidoglio, a 16th-century square designed by Michelangelo, and follow your guide to a little-known spot in the square that provides a view of the Roman Forum, which is closed at night. As you admire the ruins bathed in evening light, your guide will point out sites like the Sanctuary of the Vestal Virgins, a temple once home to the most honored women in Ancient Rome.

Then make your way down the hill, catching sight of Augustus’ and Caesar’s forums, and arrive at the Colosseum, the most iconic of the Eternal City’s ancient landmarks. Head inside with your guide to explore the near-empty amphitheater, where quiet shadows replace the typical daytime crowds, and listen to stories about the bloody gladiator battles that once took place here. You can walk around the reconstructed floor of the arena, little of which remains of the original surface, and look down between gaps to see the underground chambers.

Next, head below ground to explore the chambers themselves, where wild animals were held and gladiators prepared for their fights. This section of the Colosseum is only open to a select number of visitors each day, so enjoy this rare opportunity to see more than most visitors do during the day, let alone at night.

After exiting the Colosseum, your tour ends outside.

An informative and quiet tour of Rome's ancient sites!

I leisurely walked around these sites by myself during the day, and this night tour was the perfect compliment! I got a totally different perspective and aesthetic for all of the sites we visited. Plus the tour inside of the Colosseum was definitely worth it....More

We enjoyed this tour of Rome by night, and we were surprised that the Italians celebrate a form of Halloween. The staff got into the spirit of it and made it a fun tour. Unfortunately, there are no stops to take photographs or to get...More

Yes you will see upper floors too. But because this is a guided tour you will see from everything a lttle bit. The highest parts of the Colloseum are never accesible.
