      Outstanding tour with Roma Experience
Elisa was an outstanding guide with her incredible in-depth knowledge and wonderful enthusiasm. It was a joy to spend time in her company and learn from her. I must say every aspect of the tour was highly professional and well organized. Indeed, Elisa exceeded all our expectations. We will most definitely be booking another Roma Experience tour for our next visit. We’ve already recommended to friends and family.

The best private guides in Italy!
The absolute best private guide company in Italy that I have experienced. Incredibly knowledgeable guides that cater to your preferences and interests, saving you valuable time in museums and monuments in which you could otherwise get lost. They were also able to secure coveted tickets with limits at the last minute for us. We are so grateful to Elisa and her team for creating a truly memorable trip for us!

Unparalleled Tours - The BEST Thing You'll Do in Italy
Elisa is beyond phenomenal. I’ve had the pleasure of touring the Vatican and Roman Forum with her twice (once in 2017 and again this fall). On each tour, I’ve looked around to other people near me, wearing head sets and walking in groups, and have whispered to my husband, “We are having the absolute best experience here.” The depth of Elisa’s tours and her incredible knowledge are simply unparalleled. Touring the Roman Forum with Elisa – a place she used to work!!! – is, hands-down, the best tour experience I’ve had anywhere in the world. The care she puts into her work is evident—she is passionate about what she does, and wants to share her passion for these remarkable places with you. And be sure to ask her for restaurant recommendations! She pointed us in the direction of the best meals we enjoyed in Italy—and not just in Rome! She gave us recommendations for Venice and Florence, too. AND she coordinated a last-minute, ultra-luxe, private wine tour in Chianti for my group, led by one of her brilliant tour guides (Martina). My traveling companions and I will remember these experiences forever. Do yourself a favor and book literally anything with Elisa. It’ll be the best thing you do in Italy.

The Best Private Tour Guide in Italy!!!
We cannot say enough nice things about Elisa, our private tour guide for the Vatican and the Colosseum. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and simply the best at her craft. We learned so much and there wasn't a single dumb question Elisa wouldn't answer. If you're thinking about touring these beautiful landmarks, we 100% recommend you consider Elisa with Roma Experience Tours.

Best tour of Colosseum and Forum!
Amazing tour with Elisa. Well worth it, especially if you love history and/or archeology. Elisa is highly educated, knowledgable, as well as engrossing, entertaining and an absolute joy to learn from and be led by. We were able to go deep into the colosseum, into places very few will ever see. We were also able to make adjustments as we went along, based on what we were most interested in seeing and learning about. It was great passing by the masses of tourists and heading into spaces that had no crowds, seeing things few get to see. I am so happy we did this tour. You will be too!

      Education of Colosseum
Our guide was amazing! There is a lot of information. A lot of walking. (Wear good shoes). If you love archeology you will be in heaven. For those who are not that into it…it might be a bit too long of a tour.

Book him before he is full! Amazing…
What an amazing couple of hours spent touring the highlights of Rome. Our tour guide LUCA is one of a kind. Passionate, funny, knowledgeable, kind. His passion for the history of Rome was infectious as was his knowledge of the history of our language and the politics of the day. Truely an inspiring experience. When trying to be funny I noted that our great actor Russell Crowe (yes a kiwi we know) had made the Colosseum famous through the movie Gladiator, he pulled out his phone and showed us a picture. “Oh you mean my friend Russell” he quipped. Of course the great actor would have chosen LUCA when he returned to the site of that epic movie in 2022 to get a real sense of the drama and majesty of that place. Well done and thank you, for the enduring memories.

Architecture, history, politics, and the extravagance and bad behavior of emperors!
5 stars! Elisa's knowledge passion for history is clear, and she is a former archeologist. If you're going to spend 3-4 hours together, it may as well be fun too! She loves questions, and weaves together the story of the buildings, the politics, the people, and geography together so well. She can cover the standard Q&A of course, but she also was able to discuss the Roman society, the conquest of Egypt, Cleopatra, the extravagance of the emperors, if Nero really did fiddle while Rome burnt, and why the emperors usually didn't survive too long.

3 Hour express tour with Luca of the colosseum and Sistine Chapel. He is an amazing guide and very knowledgeable!
3 hours express tour was perfect for us. Luca our guide was super fun and very knowledgeable. He went out of his way to make the tour very special and personal. As my daughter Alex says “ He is the best guide ever”! And we have done many guides around the world. I Highly recommend this company. Elisa is the owner. She is very organized and wonderful as well.

An unforgettable experience with many fascinating stories.
Elisa opened our eyes to the history of Ancient Rome. She is an expert in her field and passionate about the history she shared. With her depth of knowledge, she paired so many stories with the sites we visited. Elisa tailored the tour to our 10 and 15 year old children and managed to keep us all engaged and fascinated. We have toured many cities with numerous guides over the years and Roma Experience is the absolute best!

“Don’t do anything in Italy without speaking to Elisa first!”
We travelled to Rome in June of 2022 and were given Elisa’s contact information from a friend who said we should not see anything in Italy without speaking with her first. Elisa’s knowledge is extensive and unparalleled. Her presentation style is engaging, and her access is unprecedented. Not only did we get behind the ropes at The Vatican, but she also arranged other tours at incredible venues that no one else was able to. We learned that Elisa’s contacts, allow her access to unique and exclusive experiences that thankfully she is happy to share. However, access is only part of the story here. It is Elisa’s extraordinary breadth of knowledge and presentation style allowed us to learn something new and important at every turn. As a family who is lucky enough to travel and utilize great tour guide, Elisa stands apart. In addition to the above she is warm, funny, kind, and was able to keep all 7 of us (Ages from 20-60) engaged. Like our friend said originally: “Don’t do anything without speaking in Italy without speaking to Elisa first.”

Superb knowledge and great customer service at the Vatican
My guide, Elisa, was outstanding. She knows her ‘stuff’. Her background in archaeology and academia is excellent and allows her to answer questions quickly (and I had lots of them). I like the way she paced the tour to my needs. Also, her presentation skills were multi-faceted (I especially liked seeing a explanatory video or picture on her iPad. I will be back to Rome next Spring and Elisa is the only guide I will use.

Fabulous tailor made Caravaggio tour we are still dreaming about!
This was a once in a lifetime experience that far exceeded our expectations! Elisa from Roma Experience put together a bespoke tour for us based on a few thoughts I had. She made it come alive in just a matter of a few days. My goal was to see as many Caravaggio paintings in Rome as possible over the course of 4-5 days, as a surprise gift for my partner who's favorite painter is Caravaggio. Elisa put together a wonderful itinerary including all the major Caravaggio paintings in Rome (we saw 21 in total over 4 half days, two of which are in private collections). In addition, we toured the Restoration Lab that has restored a Caravaggio painting and learned all about the process of restoration including the work that was done on the Caravaggio. We even saw the apartment Caravaggio lived in. Our guide, Luca, was superb, an extremely knowledgeable art historian, who knew not only everything about Caravaggio but also the other important painters at the time and was able to connect art discussion to history and culture. We learned so much and looked forward to being with Luca each day. We really cannot say enough about this special tour and encourage any Caravaggio fan to skip the prepackaged tours and talk to Elisa about a tour designed with your goals in mind, you will NOT be disappointed. Elisa is extremely responsive, resourceful and knowledgeable. She will make your Rome dream come true! She cares so much about what she is doing. We miss our time in Rome with Luca and Caravaggio!

Five star private tour of the Colosseum
We toured with Alesia and she was excellent! Her background in archeology and her knowledge of Rome and the history were invaluable. We were on a private tour just the two of us experiencing the Colosseum in a sea of other tours, but she made us feel like we were the only ones there. Skip the line, getting us to the perfect vantage points all the while imparting all her knowledge and insights into the spectacular venue. She's an amazing guide and we can't recommend her highly enough!

Booked both the small group tour and colosseum tour. They canceled the small group tour 2 days before the tour date leaving us stranded to find a tour. You try booking a tour 2 days out - middle of season... So, being pissed, we canceled the other tour, only to be charged full price due to their cancellation policy. Never again. Never again. Plus, you can do much better by reading Rick Steves recommendation for tour guides. Much better tours at much less cost (we found out later).

Dear Ttrestorations, When we received a bad review we take some time to make a thorough internal investigation. In your case this operation is very difficult, because we could not identify you from your nickname. More importantly, the problem you reported never occured to us: we never canceled a tour at the last minute (2 days before is last minute for us), and this makes us think you wrote thir review to the wrong company. The second thing which really got us confused is that you talk about the tours you booked from us as two different tours: "Colosseum tour" and "Small group tour", which are, actually, the very same product. What we sell is "Small Group Tours of the Colosseum". We have to confess we feel very frustrated by the fact we cant identify you and can't of course help nor to you neither to the other people who are reading this review. Can you please double check if you posted this review in the right company? In case you didn't book with us in the first place, please ask trip advisor to move this review to the right company. Kind Regards

We booked the Small-group Tour Coloseum Underground with Roma Experience online through Viator. We followed the directions as shown on the email, we arrived early and met another couple who were also on the same tour. The directions said to "exit street level and wait by the letter M".

Well we found the spot described and obviously we weren't the only once at this location. We even found some tour guide signs leaned against the wall that read "Rome Experience". When we didn't see anyone else we started asking other guides for possible directions to this tour group. We were then told to possibly check the street above us, the "upper level" which would have been so helpful, if it had been included in the directions.

We ran up there with seconds to spare only to find Francesca, our very unfriendly to tardiness tour guide. She made sure that we new that we've made the group late. We explained the we followed the directions and that there was a sign that read "Rome Experience". We might as well have been fed to the lions or better yet let Ceasars court decide our fates. I looked at the time it was 8:30am, exactly the start time.

We we're suited up with the necessary listening equipment. The rest of the group looked on in disgust. Tardiness is not a good quality! We then took off across the street where our skip the line tickets did nothing since well, there was no line! None! We were the line, all 12 of us, and my friend and I kept wondering "if you're missing a third of your group and you have 3 assistants wouldn't you send one of those to the "street level" to see if the rest are there?

Anyway the next 4 hours were grulling, between Francesca belittling the tardy party of 4 and her constant use of Italian when we did expect a tour in English, (don't get me wrong I love Italian, and understand most of it since my native language is Castellano).

It was the delivery of the message. For example, she did this thing, where the subject matter is new to the student and she would have us guess what things were called. It was all one big guessing game. It got old in less than can you say Gelato!

Half way through the tour she told one of the people in the group that we could of spent more time in the Coloseum but because of us this was no longer possible. She made sure I heard this!

The Coloseum was amazing, I just wished we've gotten an enthusiastic and forgiving tour guide. I wanted to know about life in Rome, I wanted to know about Nero, Titus, Ceasar, the significance of having status in ancient Rome.

My next visit to the Coloseum will not be booked with Viator, and especially not with Rome Experience.

Dear Veronika, First of all we apologize for this belated reply and we are deeply sorry you didn't have a pleasant experience during your tour with Roma Experience. We always ask our clients to be at the meeting point 15 minutes before tour departure, we provide clear pictures and a long explanation on how to reach our meeting point and we share with our clients a phone number to call if you have issues finding the exact location. Nevertheless, we absolutely agree with you on the guide's behaviour. It is not in our style to let customers feel ashamed or blame them for anything. All we want is to let everyone have fun and enjoy Rome. We apologize for this on our guide's side and we can assure you it will never happen again. Please feel free to get back in touch anytime you travel back to Rome: we'll make our best to make it up to you.

While Adrianna was very pleasant personally, it was very difficult to understand her. The entrance in getting in the Colosseum (after a 2.0-2.5 hour tour of the Roman Forum) was a bit disorganized in getting us to meet up with the other 16 folks who were joining our group of 8. (The Colosseum portion of the tour was only about 30 minutes.) We lost about 20-30 minutes of the Colosseum tour and the internal tour guide left without our group. The tour guide inside (don't remember her name) didn't show much passion and it felt very quick underground. Plus, at the base of the floor, we had only about 5 minutes. Not recommended.

Dear Jason, We are really sorry about what happened during your Underground Tour of the Colosseum. The problem was related to the security line, which we cannot skip. However, if for any reasons the line slows down issues the access to the Underground Tour is granted by default. After an internal investigation, we found out a lack of coordination between our guide and the Colosseum staff was the cause behind your delayed entrance. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience. This is the first time this has never occured to us and we will make sure it never happens again.

We had considered buying tickets to the Colosseum directly through the Colosseum website. It is certainly cheaper to do that. But we're so glad we decided to book a tour. Not only did we get to bypass the VERY long lines at the Colosseum and the Forum but you can't access the Colosseum floor or Underground unless you are part of a tour. Even better, our guide, Stefania (I hope I got her name right) was fabulous!

We met outside the Colosseum near the Metro. The directions provided in our confirmation email were exact and made it easy to find. We then walked to the Colosseum to the entrance while Stefania gave us a brief overview. Once inside we met up with a special guide that gave us a tour of the underground area where the animals would have been kept and the Gladiators would have entered.

Next we walked to the Forum where we first went up to Palatine Hill and we were given an overview of the Forum and other historical points that could be seen from that vantage point. We finished up walking through the Forum.

All in all the tour was close to 4 hours long. Stefania did a great job making sure the group stayed together and were taken care of. We had a couple of families including kids in strollers and one person with mobility challenges and I doubt any one of them felt neglected. She was informative and included not only historical reference for what we were seeing but also gave us some botanical info too like introducing us to a cork tree and pointing out other edible herbs and greens.

I should also mention that when I booked this trip online, I somehow managed to book it for the wrong day. I called in a little bit of a panic, and Chiara was able to correct the booking date for me and was so pleasant to deal with. Every person we encountered with this tour group was very nice. We would definitely recommend them.

Dear Fink369, Thank you so much for writing such a kind and detailed review. We are pleased to hear that Stefania not only introduced you to the beauty of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, but even added some information about the local flora. Good guides and caring staff are a gift to our company and hearing that nevertheless there were people with strollers everyone was taken care of and looked after makes our day better! We try to keep our group tours small, the quality of our guides high and want guests to have a true VIP experience. (not making them wait in long queues!) Glad to hear we left you with a fond memory, your compliments were passed on to Chiara as well as Stefania.

My wife and I booked the small group tour of the Colosseum Underground and Roman forum during Easter week and were thrilled with both the service and quality of the tour. The first half of the tour was the Forum/Palatine Hill and our group was limited to just 6 people. Our guide was Federico, who is a very engaging and entertaining former archaeologist whose knowledge of the site and Roman history was very impressive (and his English is impeccable). For the Colosseum portion of the tour, we were consolidated with several other small group tours into a group of about 20. There is no way to avoid this given the limitations on the underground tours imposed by the city, and our new guide was Federica (not a typo -- we got Federico and Federica) who managed our group very well and did nice job of maneuvering through the crowds and displaying her knowledge of the site. Be aware that the underground tour will not allow you to access all areas of the underground, but it will allow you to see a representative section that includes animal cages, elevators, trap doors, etc. that give a good representation of how the system actually worked. Well worth the money as far as i was concerned. There is no way to avoid the crowds in the Forum and in the Colosseum so do yourself a favor and book with a small group tour that will at least provide some personalized attention.

First off let me begin by saying this tour was incredibly informative and the tour guide absolutely knew what she was talking about, you can tell she has a passion for the archaeological history behind the Roman forum and the Colosseum… That being said while this tour claims it highlights the Colosseum underground… Only a small portion of it is spent in said area. We spent an hour and a half at the Colosseum and roughly 3 hours in the Roman forum… Of the hour and a half at the Colosseum only 25 to 30 minutes were spent in the underground. My understanding was that we would be able to explore vast corridors of the Colosseum underground however it is heavily roped off and only a very tiny portion is available to tourists. To title a tour the Colosseum underground and then only spend half an hour inside the area was highly disappointing… The beating of the sun while walking through the forum did not help the situation. Again this was a good tour but I was disappointed with the end product considering what I thought we would be getting.

Dear Vibin T, Thanks for sharing your feedback about our Colosseum Underground Tour. This helps us a lot to improve the service we will provide to our future customers. Regarding your disappointment about the time spent inside the Colosseum, we are sorry, but there is really nothing we can do to change this: the time we can spend inside the different areas of the Colosseum is fixed by the Colosseum Administration and this is valid for every tour operator. Around 20 mins are spent on the Arena, 20 minutes in the Underground, 20-30 minutes in the other areas. Only a partial area of the Undergrounds is accessible to visitors and also this is decided by the Colosseum Administration, for security reasons. We hope this information is helpful to you to understand they way things work and to help future customers wanting to booking tours of the Colosseum with any company.

We were very pleased with our choice to go with Roma Experiences for our Underground Colosseum tour. We really appreciated the super clear instructions about where to meet the tour. Our guide (Nadia) was very friendly and informative, and did a great job keeping the group together in a crowded location. The combined Colosseum + Palantine Hill tour is a bit long, especially on a hot summer day, but it gets in all of the "must-see" placed! Would definitely do another tour through this company in the future.

Dear E908IKandrewk, Thank you for trusting us to show you around the Eternal City and its impeccable monuments! The Colosseum Underground Tour is our most populair tour which allows acces into the Colosseum Underground and Arena alongside of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. I can imagine with the Italian heat it can be intense walking through the forums, but hope that you're looking back on a memorable day with us (and perhaps got a lovely holiday tan at the same time!) We look forward to showing you more of Italy's hidden gems!

Best tour I did in Italy over my 19 days. Andrea was our guide and he was just amazing. We felt like absolute VIP's and learned so much about Roman history from him. He went at our pace, stopped when we wanted to rest, brought his own photos and graphics to bring everything to life, and was patient with our picture taking and bathroom breaks. There were only four of us in our tour group and it felt like hanging out with a really smart friend in a gorgeous place for the afternoon! My only recommendation is that they shorten the amount of time spent outside the coliseum because the guide inside repeats a lot of the same information. Otherwise, perfect!!!!

Dear Jeanine44, We are very proud to hear Paolo actually felt more like a smart friend to you as opposed to a guide, eventhough participating in a small group tour! It can indeed happen that our small group tour (with max. 12 participants) does not fill up, which means you can enjoy the benefits of an even smaller group tour! We are honoured by your kind words and are glad that out of all of your tours, our Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill tour stuck with you the most. We look forward to welcoming you back in our beautiful city!

We did a 3 3/4 hour Gladiator’s Arena and Colosseum Underground Tour this morning. Our guide (I believe her name was Elisa), is an archeologist. She did an excellent job of pacing the tour, giving us information and anecdotes about both the Colosseum and Forum. We enjoyed her sense of humour, too! This tour was well worth both the cost and the amount of time.

Dear LoriChm, Great to know you found our Colosseum Underground Tour worthy of the price paid! Skipping the line into the Colosseum and visiting the limited access areas along with a visit to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill is an experience by itself, but I absolutely agree that a great guide can make the experience so much more memorable! Thank you very much for your kind rating, I will make sure Elise will be informed of your review as I am sure she will be pleased to know how content you were about her tour.
