About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Martin P0 contributionsThey messed-up our reservationLook, I normally write pretty positive reviews, but this was abysmal. The company erroneously sent us tickets to the Vatican instead of the Colosseum. I called their customer support, who explained that this never happens and asking if we could take the other tour instead? They had no way of fixing the error without a 72-hour notice... But they sent the erroneous voucher 72 hours before our scheduled visit. How exactly can they justify that? We were only in town for one day and this is the one thing that my wife and I wanted to experience. I asked for a refund and we ended-up managing to luck-out and see the Colosseum on our own.Written 3 November 2024
- clairesE2623FX0 contributionsDon’t upgrade to the guided tour option at Pompeii. The tour was great but I wouldn’t bother with the guided tour of Pompeii. We were encouraged to upgrade to the guided tour of Pompeii. I regretted this and wish I’d left it as just the entry ticket option - we didn’t see much of it as the tour group took 20 mins to get organised and then finished half hour before we were due back at the bus, this didn’t allow time for us to explore further. The tour guide spent ages near the entrance, and was very rude to a lady who asked a question. I was gutted as I’d wanted to go to Pompeii since I was a child and barely saw anything.Written 28 September 2024
- Y9379RBmp0 contributionsTerribleThe trip was very disappointing. The bus and the tour co-ordinator who was in the bus were fine but the guide at Pompeii was terrible. She was the guide for English but could not speak English well. As a result we could barely understand anything. The guided tour started at 10:50 and ended at 12:13. The people who did not do guided tours or who did audio tours were helped and they got in at least 30 min while we waited in the sun. They were either trying to get a guide or the guide was late - dont know what was the issue. There was utter chaos with no guidance or accountability. Same in Naples- we were let off and told to come back at a specific time. When we asked for recommendations- there were none. Naples is filled with tourist traps and we along with other guests had an unpleasant experiences. Would not recommend this company or tour.Written 8 July 2024

- Venture650316423940 contributionsPleasant tripWe had a great time. It is a long bus ride. About 2.5 hours to Pompeii. Then 90 minutes there. I wish I would have planned a little better because we were so rushed we only saw about half. Then 30 minutes to Naples. A couple hours there was enough time to eat and take a few pictures then 3 hours back to Rome. 7am-7pm. Internet didn’t work on bus. But Nico (the guide) was very friendly. Bus was comfortable. A/C worked well. I would do it again.Written 9 April 2024
- ChristyH19880 contributionsNot equal for all. This could have been better. The drive to Pompeii was quiet but we were only given 1 hour and 20 minutes at Pompeii. We then spent 30 minutes waiting for a family of three who took it upon themselves to extend their visit to the ruins - which we all would have liked to have done but were too polite to do so. The guide did not even have a word with them regarding their complete rudeness. This family then pushed in line for everything as if it was their given right. They were also given ‘special’ drinks of Coca Cola because they did not want the wine at lunch. They received extra cheese and their pizza was cut up. This did not occur for anyone else. At the rest stop, which was ten minutes, for using toilets we then had to wait even longer for them because the wife wanted a coffee. It was disappointing.Written 6 January 2020
- sexyangel10 contributionsPompeii and Naples day trip from RomeWhat a great day. Had a bit of stress in the morning trying to find the location of the bus stop (instructions not very clear as to location) but otherwise had a lovely day. Guide on the bus was lovely and the tour guide Adelaide at Pompeii was amazing. So engaging and a wealth of knowledge. She really made my day so much more exciting. Top of my bucket list ticked off 😀Written 11 November 2019
- edwardmichaelz0 contributionsBus tour to Pompeii and NaplesOverall, the trip was OK. The tour guide at Pompeii was very hard to understand due to her very strong Italian accent. Lunch after the Pompeii tour was at a local Italian restaurant and was great. We thought there might be some commentary along the trip to Pompeii and then on the way back from Naples to explain what we were seeing but it was a very quiet ride (great for those who wanted to sleep!).Written 7 October 2019

All of the guides on this day were great.Written 28 July 2019
- David B0 contributionsGreat TourWe went on this day trip 10/5/18 and it was a great experience. The guide was amazing and a lot of fun. We learned a lot. We saw the main sites. It was a little crowded in Pompeii, but crowds are everywhere. We ate lunch at a restaurant close by and it was very good.Written 7 December 2018
- Carolina B0 contributionsMore than expectedWe were reluctant to take this tour because of some not very good reviews, but since our days were limited and this tour was the one that accommodated the best to our free time we decided to take, and do not regret it. Our tour guide on the bus was super funny and enthusiastic, the driver was excellent and the bus itself very comfortable. Once in Pompeii we had a different tour guide who was very knowledgeable and took advantage of the short time to show us the highlights of this amazing site. Lunch was delicious, great restaurant setting with water, glass of sparkling wine and a bottle of red wine all included. The tour of Naples was good as well, only wish we hadn’t had to switch buses, but not a big deal. Absolutely recommend this day trip and this company.Written 5 September 2018
- Gary S0 contributionsCity Sightseeing remarkable. With very little time on this trip to see the sights of Pompeii and Naples in detail, it was decided to use a tour company After a couple of confusing and tiring research, we chose a tried and true company, City sight seeing. For between 115 and a130 euros you get great value for money day starts with... 1/ pick up by air conditioned coach 2/ Pompeii, with a local guide 3/ 3 course meal with wine 4/ Open top bus tour of Naples 5/ Drop off back to Rome Duration around 12 hours. The lunch was superb both in quality and quality. Tours run Thursday , Friday and Saturday.Written 18 June 2018
- MariaValois0 contributionsPompeii:Very interesting place. Service not good enough. We enjoyed our trip to Pompei, the assistant in the bus was very helpful. We set off on time and arrived at Pompeii three hours later, sounds long but it was not that bad. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. The driver Claudio drove and spoke on the mobile almost all the time,at least 12 calls, something about bying a machine, he downloaded pics, sent them back, took notes, called back, very dangerous driving. This was going on most of the time. We tried to relax after the long walks but he was very noisy. We changed buses in Napoles but really it was a waste of time. The lady guide had eyes only for an intalian couple and she never realized that the audio recording was not working, never heard anything about the history of the place, never made eye contact. No apology from her. Very disappointing.Written 26 April 2018
- Hindhock0 contributionsHistorical JourneyDecided to make do this day trip while we were there and we were unsure if they are able to accommodate us at the very last minute. Went to the meeting place very early in the cold morning and both the guide and driver was already there waiting for the participants of this trip. The bus was comfortable with a glass canopy, that makes the long drive to Pompeii very interesting as our views are not restricted only to windows. Our guide Anna is such a warm & cheerful person and we managed to have a chat during one of the toilet stop. Noting we are asians, she asked about where we were from and the cultures in our country. Although it was a long 6 hours drive both ways, it was not a boring drive at all.Written 1 March 2018

We were in Rome last week and we had absolutely no problem at all with this company. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus, most of the guys waiting at the bus stops were extremely helpful. We booked the 72 hour ticket as we got it on TA at a discounted price, and you can use the ticket for the yellow bus line and night tour too. They have an app where you can see where buses are which was good. Yes the bus doesn't really go near the sites like a lot of the other city sightseeing buses do, but its a good way to see the city and by walking you see so many other interesting things, The yellow line does go a little bit closer to some of the sites if you wanted too. I docked a point because the headset they give you on the red bus did not fit my ears, the yellow line ones were much better, unfortunately quite a few of the points I used on the red bus line weren't working or would not play English otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Would highly recommend pre-booking this as the price on the day at the bus is double. The audio loop is great and gives some really interesting facts - however sometimes was too soon or late passing the attraction sight. Would recommend doing a full loop first and the hopping on/off at the different stops, as some stops to get back on you might be waiting over an hour so definitely pre-plan as it’s one way continuous loop. Would recommend this to get around all the main attractions but ensure you plan plan plan!

Great way to see the city. However the bus spent too long at some stops and the narrative on the headphones was basic. There was far too much awful synthesised music when they could have told you much more about this historic city. A bit disappointed.

Just to be clear this is city sight seeing Roma hop on hop off (red bus) do not for one moment think that they run every 15 minutes. You start to get suspicious when it is the same driver and ticket checker every time you get on the bus. They should as a minimum have 4 busses what are the odds eh. We bought a 72 hr ticket with which you get a free night trip from the terminal. Problem getting to terminal waited 45 mins for bus to arrive good job we had accounted extra time to do something else or we would never have got there. We were fortunate in that we did get to the night bus early and claimed a seat, the poor devil s further back in the queue certainly did not get what they will have paid for. Again oversold with very upset passengers. If only a small proportion of staff involved in sales were involved in providing the service then customers would experience a far better sight seeing tour. The service is oversold and cannot accommodate the number of people trying to get on. It seems a bit of cut throat business in competitors blocking marked bus stops. People waiting and bus goes past and waits about 50 metres up the road but makes no attempt to advise those waiting and then scrutinises your ticket as if you are a criminal. From the number of competitors buses passing whilst waiting I think I would recommend the green line company based purely on the number of buses but have no idea of what their service is like, However definitely steer clear of City sight seeing Roma (red bus).

Total disaster today. We bought a 3 day hop on hop off pass yesterday. The woman at the office in Termini said that the buses ran every 15 minutes. It turns out that is only in the summer. At this time of year they run only every 45 minutes and longer if there is traffic delaying things. The busses today were completely full standing room only, like commuter buses not hop on hop off busses. Looking at the live map there seemed to only be three or four busses running across the whole city. If you were at a stop where not many people wanted to get off the full bus you might not get a space and have to wait another 45 minutes to an hour for the next one. This is mid term and there are thousands of tourists around. There are also many school tours. There are queues down the streets with people trying to get on the one bus that arrives every 45 minutes to an hour. We eventually gave up and just walked to a metro. We wasted our money on a promise of regular buses that simply don't exist at this time of year. Other tour companies seemed to have their busses in greater numbers. One other operator arrived 3 times while we waited for one of ours to arrive and that one turned out to be full and we had to stand on the bottom unable to see or hear anything.
We have used this company in other cities so we thought we were going with a reliable tour operator. After today's disaster we will never use this organisation again in any city.

Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs even if it means paying a couple extra euros for different operators that offer better service. Ticket tout charges €26 for a €14 ticket...and we had to get correct valid tickets anyway when we got on bus...total waste of time...this was just the start. Service stops at 3 spots at Termini, there you have to wait on the bus for 15/20 mins before moving off again. Does same at colassium, so be warned, this is defeating the purpose of hop on hop off to see sites - delaying your trip purposefully and unnecessarily. At one point in the day the buses stop visiting all stops completely and one of the reps directed waiting customers to walk 3 to 4 HUNDRED metres crossing busy roads to the next stop to hop back on - again not the service purchased, they are there for your convenience as long as you (walk) use the designated stop on the map. Not the other way round. They have a QR code to scan to track time for next arrival - on our trip 3 of the buses did move on the map whatsoever which meant only one bus was in operation, this totally explained our 50 minutes wait to hop back on at the Vatican (so much for hop on off of every 15/20 mins). The yellow bus addition you are allowed to use, stopped at Termini and made us wait over 20mins...we just got of completely and got on the red bus that had arrived during the wait. My advice is to use Greenline, IHOP or any other service, their more frequent and offer better service.

We booked the City Sightseeing Rome hop on off bus for 48 hrs as we’ve previously used the same company in Amsterdam which was fantastic.
The City sightseeing red Rome bus was the worse
the pick up timings were extremely long we’ll beyond the 15 mins that they advertised on the brochure, the bus had excessive waiting time at some stops and none at others.
Whilst we were waiting for the red City Sightseeing Rome bus we saw at least three of the other operators buses that were offering the same service, they were way more regular than the red City sightseeing buses.
They Red City Sightseeing Rome bus company have way more operatives on the streets of Rome touting for tourists , one of their agents was very rude very unprofessional.
If me and my family ever visit Rome again we would avoid this company like the plague as they are not delivering what they advertise they can’t have the same amount of buses that the other company’s must be running.
We were in Rome from 22nd to 26th 2024.

This had to be one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time . They don’t follow the time table the audio does not follow the stops we were at . The worst part at the Vatican stop I waited 40 minutes for a bus only for the bus to fill up and more than 15 of us were left stranded . During that 40 min every other company had at least two buses come and go . The ticket guy was so busy selling tickets to an older American couple he made sure they got on the bus but not the rest of us . Save yourself book any other company there are lots to choose from but not this one .

He said go to bus stop down road and bus goes every 10 mins. 20 mins later still no bus found another dodgy looking bloke and he said 10 mins. Eventually bus turned up so got off at few stops later. Went back to catch bus to next stops. Saw the app and checked to see when next bus was. 45 minutes later so we got a taxi. Don use this company

Hi, what you describe doesn't seem like our official City Sightseeing Rome service. We obviously do not ask for any extra costs for those who pay electronically and our staff does not ask for tips at any time during their work. We usually love hop on/off buses, but city sightseeing bus routes in Rome are boring. Only two routes that are almost identical.
They drive in a circle around (without the core) the inner older part of Rome and to the Colloseum. The soundtrack in English is miserable, can not hear what is being said so we gave up.
Some of the stops (4 of 10) we have kept still for 10-25 min. 2 stops we never found as we would jump on again somewhere else in town.
We think that there could be different lines focused on different parts of Rome and not just the older part of Rome. Rome must offer more than that!

The bus is a good way to drive past most of the sights in Rome. Unfortunately you will have to take a taxi from te airport to the city centre of Rome in order to catch the Hop-on-hop off bus.
