What to expect
  • Your Rome walking tour starts near the Colosseum, where you’ll meet your guide and small group. Use your skip-the-line ticket to avoid the main entrance line, and go inside for a tour of the amphitheater’s first and second levels. Listen to stories about the gladiator battles and animal fights that once took place here, and hear how the structure took nine years to build. Continue over to the Roman Forum, the former center of Ancient Rome’s political and commercial enterprises. Admire remnants of sites like the House of the Vestal Virgins, and stroll up Palatine Hill for a view of the ruins and Circus Maximus. Then walk along the winding laneways of Rome’s historical center, passing by Piazza Venezia, the Trevi Fountain and the 2nd-century Pantheon, before a chauffeur service to Vatican City. Take a break for lunch (own expense), and then enter the Vatican Museums with your skip-the-line admission. This complex of galleries houses one of the world’s biggest collections of art, most famously the Renaissance pieces by masters like Raphael and Michelangelo. Visit Raphael’s Rooms, the Gallery of Tapestries and the Gallery of Maps, and then head to the crown jewel, the Sistine Chapel, to be awed by Michelangelo’s iconic frescoes The Creation of Adam and The Last Judgement. Your tour ends at St Peter’s Basilica, one of the largest churches in the world, known for its dome that dominates the Rome skyline. The church is also home to more artwork, such as Michelangelo’s La Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s altar canopy. Your guide will say goodbye here, where you are free to continue exploring on your own. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required. The order of the itinerary described may be subject to change on the day of your tour.

Wow! We had a wonderful day with Santi from LivItaly tour, organized by Jessica from Storywalking. Santi took us up to Monte Palatino and along with his in-depth knowledge of the history of the area and Foro Romano, he shared videos and pictures to help us dive deeper into the city. We were fortunate enough to see some exotic birds flying peacefully around the mountain - spectacular.

While skipping the lines at the Colosseo, Santi kept us together and spared us from crowded corners while all along, describing the many sites: the structure (walls, arches, stones), the sub terrain structures, the organization of crowds at gladiator flights and so much more. We were able to understand well what a day of beast fights, executions, and gladiator events would really have been like. Amazing!

With our driver and private car, Santi continued to educate us with tales of the main attractions along our route to Vatican City. We drove to Villa Boughese and captured a wonderful view of Rome. Definitely this hill is a place to explore further on another trip.

At Vatican City it became apparent that Santi really does have the "keys" to unlock wonders at these sites. Most everywhere we went, Santi knew people by first name ( :) ) and was able to get us very, very close to sculptures and monuments that no other tourists seemed to be able. Santi explained so much history and art, and historical religion - he truly is a walking encyclopedia!

This was a wonderful tour ... private in the morning and semi private in the afternoon. It was a pleasure to spend the day with Santi and we would highly recommend this to anyone looking for the main sites - but with a guide who is kind, fun, knowledgeable and just a wonderful person!

Our guide for the day, Dario, met us promptly at the designated time and location, and gave us a quick description of our tour. Our first stop was the Roman Forum, followed by the Colosseum. Dario showed us all the little details you might miss, like the Roman numbers above the arches (gate numbers!) and why there are so many holes in the stone (thieves stole the iron connecting pins!).

Afterwards, we met with a private driver who took us an hour and half driving tour of Rome, stopping where we wanted to stop so that we didn’t repeat seeing sights we already saw. Our driver dropped us off at a restaurant near the Vatican for lunch on our own, and Dario rejoined us as we finished our lunch.

Next it was off to the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Dario was again in his element, showing us all the little details along the way. When we finished, Dario made sure we had good walking directions back to our hotel before saying arrivederci.

Can’t say enough positives about Dario! On our morning tour were two ladies who were on a Vatican tour with a different tour company in the afternoon. One of the ladies did not have the correct COVID test for entry into the Vatican, so before she left our tour Dario gave her directions to a local pharmacy for the correct test. On our way into the Vatican, Dario saw the lady waiting for her tour to start, asked her if she was successful (she was not), and then found her tour guide and explained to the guide her situation. After we entered the museum, Dario found the tour guide to see if the lady was able to make it through security (she did not). Dario went above and beyond to help her out – now that’s customer service!

If you are going to be in Rome, I highly recommend LivItaly tours – they are an amazing local company who will ensure you have the best possible time seeing the Eternal City!

My 20yo nephew and I did the private Rome in a day tour. Dario was amazing! He had so much information and made the day so fun while filling our brains. We saw everything on our bucket list and had a bit of time to customize a stop for us. My only note to future customers…you only have access to the car/driver for 1.5 hour…so be prepared to lug around all of your stuff. Regardless, this tour was the perfect way to see highlights of Rome in a short amount of time.

Both Giulia and Pamen were fantastic guides. We learned so much in one day exploring the history of Rome and the Vatican! Rome in a single day is a lot to take on, and I highly recommend these guides to anyone looking to do this. We especially enjoyed Giulia taking time to answer all of our questions about not just historic Rome, but modern day Rome as well, and how the city has continued to evolve over time.

Only suggested change for the tour in the future is to have more of a break during lunch rather than it be time for learning. Even just 30 minutes on our own without a guide would have been very helpful to relax and reset before continuing the tour for the day.

Thank you so much for your review of the Rome in a Day tour you took with Giulia and Pamen as your guides and thank you also for your suggestion regarding more of a "break" time in the middle. It's true: there's so much to pack into just one day but it sounds like you had an enjoyable time and got a good idea of Rome, as it was and as it is today. Thanks again for your review Angelo and Kristin

We had such a great time on our Rome in a day tour. Deborah was very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. It ended up being private bc it was just the two of us but it was great.
The drive in the middle to see the sites is a little rushed. I would reccomended making sure to see Trevi fountain, spanish steps, and pantheon on your own bc you'll have more than 10 min at each site. Our driver, florin, was very nice and funny but it just felt
Rushed and you didn't really to get to experience those sites. It is a nice break from the sun and waking so much. But our walking tour guide, Deborah was amazing!!

Many thanks for your great review of your Rome in a Day tour with Deborah. Thanks also for your recommendations to future visitors. In order to see as many of the major sites as possible in this vast city, the tour must be paced accordingly. However it's our hope that having taken the tour and gotten a feel for the city, you can then go back and spend more time exploring the specific places that really tickled your interest. Thank you again for your nice review and high rating. Angelo and Kristin

This was in 2017…Rome in a Day VIP Private Tour

Trying to coordinate all the places to see, timing, and planning each ticket, its cost only a little more but much easier to do all of Rome in one trip... You know those people that arrive by chauffeur and walk past everyone in line, yeah, this is it, and that was us. Picked up at our hotel by our chauffeur, taken to the Sistine Chapel, Vatican early entry tour, and was basically by ourselves with our guide…. Takin away after to see, fountain, pantheon, restricted areas the Colosseum dungeons & arena floor and upper colosseum, great lunch just outside of the colosseum. The driver knew exactly were to go and how beat the crowds to enjoy the most of our experience.  Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about everything ROME.

We did a private day tour of Rome in October 2019 (it has taken me entirely too long to write this) and had a WONDERFUL experience. Our tour guide, Giulia, is still to-date our favorite tour guide we've ever had on any trip. She is so personable and it was so enjoyable to spend the day with her. She is by far the most knowledgeable tour guide we have ever had - she is an archeologist so you can imagine how passionate she is about Rome. We were able to see practically all of Rome in a day, and then she left us with a detailed hand-written list of other activities and sites to see based on our interests. Truly a second-to-none experience. Thank you Giulia!

Great tour! This one is for those tired of walking and just want a taste of the hi-lights of Rome as well as some hidden gems! Marco was efficient and got so many great spots along the way. We wish this had been available on our first day but that’s alright!

Pack lightly because it goes fast and definitely bring a camera that’s strapped on. So many things you wouldn’t be able to see from a tour bus. Kid friendly too.

I took most pics from my camera so these are just from my phone, sorry!

We're so happy you enjoyed your Rome in a Day tour with Marco. You're right that this is a great tour when you want to see the city but don't have the necessary energy to walk it all, or you have little kids that slow you down ...or you would simply prefer to do so in comfort! Whatever the reason, we're so glad this tour fit your desires and needs and that you enjoyed Marco's company. Thank you for writing. All best wishes Angelo and Kristin

If you want the full Rome experience, complete a with thoroughly detailed history of "the two Romes (Ancient and Modern)," you should absolutely take this tour. Luca, our tour guide, gave us a truly, one-on-one experience. He has an exquisite knowledge of Roman art and history, and we felt like he gave us a living, breathing museum experience. One can tell that art history is his passion and he explained everything about the historical sites and artwork, and then some! We had ample time in all of the locations and we never felt rushed or hurried. We toured the Colosseum, including the "underground Colosseum," Palatine Hill, the Vatican Museums, and Sistine Chapel. During our lunch break, a private driver took us to the Spanish steps and the Trevi fountain, upon request. We then met Luca at the lunch cafe where we sipped espresso, had lunch, and he gave us the detailed history, including the imagery, of Michelangelo and Raphael's paintings before we went into the Vatican Museums so we would know what to look for and how to interpret the various symbolism and imagery portrayed. We literally learned more in one day with Luca than we could have learned in a month of self-guided exploration. Oh and the fee for the tour includes admission into ALL of the historical sites and "skip the line" access which was worth their weight in gold! Luca was a master story-teller and kept us engaged the entire day. We truly enjoyed a fully comprehensive, educational experience.

Your super review of your Rome in a day tour with Luca is music to our ears! Thank you so much. We're so pleased to know that you felt every minute of this very full day experience was fun and memorable. We especially love your comment about having learned more in one day with Luca than in a month of self-guided visits. Such a compliment to him! Thank you so much from all 3 of us Angelo and Kristin
