Took her time to explain everything and made sure we understood all of the history before getting to the chapel. 10/10 would do again and completely 10000% recommend getting a tour from her she’s top notchWritten 10 December 2024

- 768si0 contributionsWhen traveling in Italy...Tips, sights and landmarks to see and experienceWhen visiting Italy… Here are a few tips in general… • Restaurants do not serve water. You have to pay for it (usually distilled or sparkling). • Public bathrooms cost 1 euro to use. Free bathrooms are in your hotel or in restaurants that you dine in. • Restaurants charge a table service ($3 or more per person.) The higher end restaurants charge $6-8 pp) • Most regional wines are inexpensive and very good. • Some of the best restaurants can be found away from the tourist areas in the hidden side streets. Ask the locals where they go for dinner. • All hotels charge a government tax ($4 per person per night). • Many of the locals speak english, but it helps to learn a few of the basic phrases There are many places to visit in Rome that have both historical and religious significance. If you are going to visit the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Basilica, the Sistine Chapel etc., tour groups take much longer and can be very overcrowded and overwhelming. Many of the guides spend a lot of time talking about the various art and works of the famous artists. Although this is very informational it is very time consuming. The overcrowding makes it difficult to stop and see everything and take personal pictures. Keep in mind that these sites are extremely crowded on a daily basis, so these tours can be very long. Personally I prefer to purchase my own ticket for entrance and do my own touring. Be ready to spend a lot of time getting from exhibit to exhibit. As far as restaurants are concerned the food is very good and the bread and wine in this region are excellent! A nice hotel for a reasonable price is Hotel Hiberia, which is centrally located. It is a very clean and quaint. The rooms are a little smaller, but you can rent a room for approx. 310 euro a night (including breakfast). If you fly into Rome, you can arrange with the hotel to pick you up at the airport for a cost of 75 euro for 3-6 people with one piece of luggage each. They have a nice little bar in the lobby where you can have an after hours drink and the drinks are inexpensive. Their breakfast menu is very good with eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, yogurts, cappuccino, cereal and croissants. The staff is friendly and courteous. They also have a restaurant (Restaurant Petrucci) that serves good food for a reasonable price. Another nice and reasonably priced restaurant is Ristorante Santa Christina. There is outdoor dining. Their local wine is excellent. Very quaint and intimate. Gio Gio Monti is a very quaint and nice restaurant. Excellent lasagna and good wine. For some afternoon aperitivo try Feffo Café. This café has outdoor seating and serves nice cheese and prosciutto platters. We traveled via Metro express to Florence. In Florence there are many sites to see. A reasonable hotel that is right opposite the train terminals is Hotel Ambasciatori. It runs about 335 euro per night (including breakfast) and is walking distance to a lot of restaurants and shops. Their breakfast is very good with many selections of fruits, eggs, croissants and cereals. There is a nice lounge in the hotel for an after-dinner drink. A top restaurant recommendation is Trattoria Marione. Great food and very reasonably priced. Ask for Michael as your waiter. There is also Trattoria Marione Trebbia which is a sister restaurant of Trattoria Marione and serves very good food for a fair price. And Donna Sofia (owned by Sofia Loren) has good pasta and fish and is reasonable priced. Ristorante Del Fagioli has a delicious riboletta and a very good Florentine steak. It was a little pricey, but worth the trip and the cost. Da Giostra, which everyone says to try, was beautiful, but the food was just decent and very overpriced. Local regional wine was $65 per bottle !! Very overrated. NOTE*** Florence bread is very bland (no salt added) From Florence we traveled to Sorrento which was aesthetically beautiful. We stood at the Hotel Palazzo Guardati which is located on a side street in the heart of the city. There are numerous restaurants that serve good local wines, wonderful fish and pasta dishes. Recommended restaurants are Donna Sofia (owned by Sofia Loren) and Ristorante Abate. There are wonderful views of the ocean from various spots in the area. You can arrange for a tour that takes you to Sienna, San Gimignano (an old charm Italian village) and Pisa. It includes a tour of a winery (Poggio Ailaghi) with wine sampling and a good meal. The cost is 120 euro per person. You may want to take a day trip to Positano via ferry ($60 pp round trip). It’s a beautiful old world charm village with lots of history. You will need to have your legs ready for a lot of stair climbing. Café Positano is located in the middle of the mountain with a view. Enjoy an aperol spritz. For a nice meal try Le Tre Sorelle ristorante which has good pizza and a good house wine. Our next stop was Capri. In a word, fabulous !! We stood at La Floridiana. A wonderful hotel, beautifully decorated that was very accommodating and had a wonderful and accommodating staff led by food and wine manager Antonio. The room was average as far as size, but comfortable. Their breakfast was by far the best of the regions that we visited. It offered western omelets, fruits, hot and cold cereal, various juices and delicious cappuccino. Their pool area was very nice and clean. The town of Capri is very picturesque. People are warm and friendly. Take a view of the entire town via the Mount Solaro chair lift. There are nice leather good stores with quality items at reasonable prices. You will find all the best clothing and jewelry shops found around the world in the center of town. You can take the lift to the topand have luch and some drinks. If you want to a good meal for a somewhat expensive price, go to Lo Zaffiro. Great food. Great wine, Excellent service (about $210 per couple with tip). Avoid Da Paolino (the lemon tree restaurant). Very overrated and super expensive. Not worth the cost in my opinion. Our last stop was in Ravello. We stood at Da Salvatore Bed & Breakfast. This quaint hotel is located off the edge of the water and provides fabulous views in all their rooms with nice balconies. There are only 6 rooms available. Ceasar and his brother are very accommodating and provide a very nice atmosphere. You can get breakfast included. They have a wonderful restaurant (Ristorante Salvatore) that serves good drinks and great food. Pricing is very reasonable. Located next door to Da Salvatore is Hotel Graal. A nice place to have an evening or later afternoon cocktail. Walk to the palazzo to see a lot of old relics and streets and some beautiful gardens. For fantastic pizza plan a visit to Da Nonno Alfonso. They serve some of the best pizza we have ever had ! This area overall is a very nice region with beautiful views of the Amalfi coast ! Overall Italy is a wonderful place to visit with many regions that have their own special foods and experiences to offer. Review hotels and get pricing, plan the places and venues that you want to visit. Hotels and costs are a little more reasonable in the fall and temperatures are more comfortable for walking during the day and visiting all the palazzos and sites.Written 6 December 2024

But our bus guide from Rome, Gabriele was great - gave us good information on where to get lunch and where to find audio guides just outside the Pompeii ruins. Kudos to Driver Franco, who got us to and fro on time and safely.Written 4 December 2024

- Victoria R0 contributionsDefinitely worth doingDefinitely worth doing! Once you find where the stops are it’s easy! All the hop on hop off bus staff are helpful even if you’re with a different company. All the stops are next to each other (different companies) so easy to find. Buses come regularly we rarely had to wait at all. We got the 72hr and we used it every day several timesWritten 25 November 2024
- 61ke0 contributionsVery comfortable, very educational, Great Day !A fantastic day ! Samuela was a fantastic guide, very personable and talented in multiple languages. Our English speaking guide at Pompeii was fantastic too , also personable and well informed and interactive. Although Pompeii was only 2-2.5hours of the tour, it was enough to understand how incredible the city is and the lives that were lived there. With the guide, I felt like this was enough time to understand it. It was lovely to see the towns and castles along the way from the bus, the lunch food was nice at Pompeii. Nice to just sit back , relax and enjoy the day without worrying about where to go and what to do. Thank you ! Also very comfortable bus !Written 24 November 2024
- gillp620 contributionsDay trip from Rome to PompeiiA good value tour and Marcello was very patient with late customers at both ends of the trip. Only 4 stars as we had to pay an extra €8 each for House of The Mysteries - surely the highlight of any visit. I suggest you put this in “What’s Not Included”Written 23 November 2024

- heront20190 contributionsPompeii HighlightsThe guides were outstanding and made a good resume of the highlights of Pompeii. But maybe they could have skipped the camafeu store, since it was a waste of time. I would rather spend that time in Pompeii, considering there was a lot to see in the given time.Written 21 November 2024
- jacobpW3698DN0 contributionsDepends on your guideOur tour of the Vatican was a disappointment. Our guide Maria was very friendly but seemed to only give information on art and history of her liking. She skipped through major works and some of the most beautiful rooms to continue talking about 1 person- Raphael. Everyone in the group was a bit antsy to keep moving and we’d often spend 10-15 minutes in one spot. Other tours and guides were zooming past us and often confused why we were just standing in the middle of the room blocking everyone. The coliseum tour with Emmanuel on the other hand was wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly moving with intent through 3 spaces. Overall not a terrible experience but it sadly comes down to who your guide is.Written 20 November 2024

Amazing day trip to the Amalfi coast by high-speed train to Salerno and ferry. Our tour leader, Anto, was excellent. She gave clear information and great suggestions on how best to spend our free time in Positano and Amalfi. She also made sure our group had the best seats possible on the ferry out of Salerno for the best views of the Amalfi coast. My husband and I had a great experience.
Booking was easy and confirmation came through really fast. Gray Line Rome customer service is excellent. Gian Marco responded quickly to our questions about the tour.

Positano loved it I think it would be ideal to stay 1 night to have more time to know and enjoy. Also the tour could start at 7:00 - 7:30 and better coordinate the arrival time on the train to Salerno. I recommend it

We thoroughly enjoyed our one-day trip down to the Amalfi Coast from Rome! Our tour guide, Valentina from GrayLine, was so sweet and helpful! She made it easy for us to find our way all the way from the train station in Rome to the boat dock in Salerno, and back. She was just so sweet and made our experience 10/10.
Positano was my favorite stop on the tour, it was so colorful and vibrant. Amalfi was a bit smaller with less shopping and eateries, but still nice. I’d recommend this tour if you are in Rome for a short stay and want to spend a day just to get away.

It’s great that Positano captured your heart with its vibrant charm, and that you still enjoyed Amalfi’s quieter atmosphere. The departure time was brought forward by 1 hour. We were informed of this by phone 5 minutes beforehand. We had no chance of reaching the meeting point. We received confirmation of the original date the day before. The organization on site is really inadequate. Never again!
ADDENDUM: GrayLine's refund of the travel price was carried out with commitment and flawlessness. Hence 2 more points. But this does not change the fact that the vacation experience was spoiled.

Sehr geehrter Herr Winter,

Beautiful day trip from Rome. Valentina was great tour guide. Taking the train was such a better/faster option than some of the coach tours I have seen online. In addition to the train they provide super nice and clean vans. I felt safe and well taken care of as a single female traveler from the states.
Things to know:
You’re gonna walk. and walk. AND walk. Amongst a lot of tourists from around the world. It is touristy, Souvenirs and food are overpriced but the views are spectacular
Also the roads are very small and curvy. Wouldn’t advise if you get car sick.
