Itinerary

Depending on the option chosen at checkout, your experience begins with pickup from a designated meeting point in central Barcelona. Greet your guide and board an air-conditioned vehicle destined for Montserrat. If you chose the ticket-only option, you’ll make your own way to the abbey for a self-guided tour.

On arrival, sail past the line that often forms outside of the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey and take a guided tour of the monastery. Visit La Moreneta (The Black Madonna), a 12th-century wooden carving, and admire the design of the sacristy and atrium. Plus, during a visit to the Museum of Montserrat, you’ll admire 13th- to 18th-century paintings by the likes of Berruguete, Caravaggio, El Greco, and Morales.

The tour concludes with drop-off back at your original departure point in Barcelona.

The best plan to visit the monastery, leaves ample time for hiking thereafter

Inspired by another reviewer few months ago, who had enjoyed the early morning visit and then some hiking, I decided to join this tour on a short notice, but pushing further, because I was determined to also hike to Sant Jeroni summit (1,237m) after the...More

The early morning trip we took was round trip. Check with the tour company and make sure. They do offer options.

No, the guide said they perform during an afternoon service and since they do attend school there are times they are not there. The gift shop does sell their CDs. You would have to take a different tour since the early one... More

Sadly there is no train from the parking lot to the actual abbey. It is a mostly level walk of about .25 miles or less. Several places to stop and sit though. I did not see any wheel chairs but you might call and see if... More
