Do yourself a favor and hire a guide at Alhambra, or use the Alhambra’s own self-guided audio tour. The “welcome” desk employees at City Tour Alhambra range from unprofessional and petty to plain rude. Management is the same ilk.
Generalife gardens and Alhambra are stunning but the guide droned on via headset for 3+ hours with facts and figures. He was nice enough but there was little sense of genuine connection or interaction and he didn’t seem concerned whether the group was with him or not as he kept moving. He did do a good job of pouring out which architectural features were original, and which were added later. I was disappointed with the pro-Christian and somewhat less flattering Muslim/Nasrid narrative, but as they say history is written by the victors.

This tour was absolutely perfect. Our tour guide was Hamdi and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a great, seamless experience. The Alhambra is a large and crowded place but he made it easy to navigate and see everything in a short amount of time. He was very professional and always made sure to find us shade in the heat and a good place to gather while he explained history. Not only was the tour great, but he happened to pass us while we were waiting for a taxi and let us hitch a ride with him on his taxi. Thank you Hamdi! Best tour guide ever

We had Antonio Villalobos as our guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the place. He guided our tour as if we were walking back in history. The tour was well organized and the size of the group was just perfect, around 10 people. I strongly recommend taking a guided tour if you want to appreciate the history and details of the place.

The guided tour of the Alhambra was the highlight of our entire trip to Spain. It was worth the extra money to see the Generalife Gardens in addition to the Alhambra and our tour guide enhanced the experience so much by providing historical context throughout the tour. I would recommend this to anyone going to Spain.

We booked the guided tour versus audio only and the communication did say that in a small number of cases the tour would be given in two languages - which in our case it was. We had English and French and it takes twice as long to get through the information - sometimes you have moved on and then the explanation of where you have just been is following in your language. I think the tour would be better in a single language. The pickup and organising of the tour individuals takes a lot longer than the 15 minutes indicated and our guide had to go back in the middle of the tour to pick up two more people.

I had trip in English with Alberto and it exceeded my expectations. The group was rather small, the guide was speaking fluently and knew a ton of informations. Booking ticket online was great decision. Even though it looked like Alhambra would not be crowded due to covid (I booked only less than week before) and there would be plenty tickets even on spot, there were long lines at the cash desks and smaller lines on some checkpoints. Thanks to Granavision, I did not have to wait anywhere and did not have to think about where to go :) it is really huge. I recommend!

This tour really made our trip to Granada! We really didn't know much about the Alhambra before we arrived. Our tour guide, Carlos S., was INCREDIBLE. We were so, so lucky to be on his tour. Including us there were 10 people in our group. Carlos S. has an insanely impressive knowledge of the Alhambra and history. He is completely in his element educating and answering questions. I would recommend wearing very comfortable shoes; there is a lot of walking and standing and you will get tired. I would also recommend arriving early to check in and taking a cab from the city center of Granda (not very expensive and worth it to not walk uphill). Our tour was scheduled for 2:00 and we went way past our 3 hours because it was so interesting.

We are 2 persons and we visited the Alhambra (full visit including the gardens of the Generalife) with Granavision Excursions. With a private guide for a group of around 25 people. We booked it through our hotel. Granadavision sent a driver to pick us up at ouf hotel and drive us to the site of the Alhambra where we were gathered with other people and met our guide, Sergio. It has been a wonderful 3-hour experience experience. Mainly due to Sergio who is an expert of Andalusia history and culture, a passionate guy extremely capable to teach, explain, find interests for everyone and get everybody highly interested. Sergio is a young Andalucian guy who speaks perfect English and is extremely good for making this time with him a fantastic experience. We have learnt a lot with him about history, architecture in this world’s major monument site which is a very complex structure resulting from additions of Muslim and then Christian influences over the past 10 centuries...! Sergio’s humour is also great for having everyone become fans of the Alhambra. With Sergio, we have had the impression to understand a lot and to become somewhat « Alhambra experts » within a few hours! Many thanks to Sergio.

We honestly couldn’t have had a better visit! My group of 3 took the English tour with Carlos and Carlos absolutely killed it.
He truly made our experience at the Alhambra an amazing one. Carlos was, passionate, funny, and most of all, incredibly knowledgeable. As he is a local from the Granada area, I learned an indescribable amount about the Alhambra and for the price you pay, you really get your money’s worth. Thank you Carlos for the amazing guide, and thank you Granavision!

Honestly I can't come up with anything I would like improved about my Alhambra tour with Emilio. The ~4 hour tour was incredibly interesting and fun and very well organized. Emilio did his talk very skillfully in both English and Spanish since my friend was the only one in the tour group of about 14 people that did not understand Spanish. Emilio managed to mix both languages perfectly to not miss out a single detail in both talks, and yet kept it very exciting. Afterwards he was very happy to give us recommensations about other stuff to do in Granada and which local cafés and restaurants to go to. I am usually very picky about guided tours and am often left with a mixed feeling afterwards but this tour with Granavision was absolutely excellent. Would recommend this to everyone!

They’re mostly sold out regardless of when you’re checking it for. There are very few days or times that’ll be available because of timing, the no of people in your group etc.

We will be in Granada on Nov 7, arriving on the Azamara Pursuit at 8 am. Will we be able to request an afternoon time? I am not sure we would be able to make a 9:00 am start. What would you recommend?
Ahmed Elgamassy

Yeah I am sure the afternoon noon tour will the best option for you. You may miss the morning tour because the gathering for that is normally around 8 to 8:30 don’t take the risk. But in all cases you better have to book in advance to get all the information about the tour times.
The place is wonderful to be visited. Don’t let it go and and preferably do it with a tour guide. Try to read something about before you go, it is not just a castle, it’s a very interesting period of history.
Best wishes

We are staying in Cordoba and trying to take the bus or train, although bus sounds like the better option (Same time lower cost), where would the pick up be?
LorikeetR
94 contributions
For our tour pick up was in central Granada and so for us it was at our hotel. Neither the bus station nor the train station are “central” so I presume you could look at a map and name a hotel or plaza that suits you. (But please check the zone with the company !) The bus station is about 3k from Paza Nueva and the train station 1.7. Perhaps if you are walking you could find a hotel closer to the station that is included in the pick up zone and ask for that, (you don’t need to be a guest) but the stations wouldn’t be in the zone. Uber is active and reliable in Granada, it would be my choice. If using Uber etc it would be possible to go straight to the Alhambra office if you get instructions from the company to be sure of meeting in the correct spot. It is also very walkable from central Granada (uphill but graded.... easy on the way back!) Have a wonderful holiday :)
