- Cliodhna B0 contributionsMust doUnreal experience! Fernando was very friendly and accommodating based on your preferences. I did not know what to expect but it is worth every penny of the price. You are treated to a wide selection of tapas and wines and are given other information about the city, including a map with recommendations to visit. There were around 11 people in our group which was perfect, not too much, not too little. It was a fun night and I highly recommend it.Written 4 February 2025
- Wiley_Irish_Guy0 contributionsHighly recommend this tour.We had a thoroughly enjoyable tour, with a wide variety of wines and tapas dishes, from vermouth to dry white to tasty reds. Although only 4 stops we had two tapas at one and 3 at another. Fernando, was the prefect host, so outgoing and friendly and knowledgeable about the local area, its history and most importantly the food and wines. We could not have had a better host. Our only regret was not having some cash to tip Fernando at the end as he thoroughly deserved it (apologies Fernando!).Written 4 February 2025

I was on my own and it was a nice few hours meeting new people worth every penny. Our euro!! We did the 4 day tour "Transylvanian Encounter" with a private driver "Emil", and it was simply wonderful. I can only praise this tour, everything was great: the driver, professional, very much informed of the history, the hotels where we stayed were great. I particularly like the one at Sighisoara, the city where the true Dracula was born, because of its spacious bedroom, excellent breakfast and great bathroom. there is a vampire sleeping in Dracula bedroom, for fun of course. I would recommend the restaurant, left when you get out the front door, (I did not get the name), a little more expensive than others, but all worthy. Internet everywhere. The food was excellent. The people of Romania are very friendly and honest, and they like to have a good time, have fun, they love their pets, and treat them well. Taxi drivers are honest, one can trust them. All meals are not included in the tour but not to worry, one can have a wonderful meal for 10 USD or less, and it gives you a chance to choose the restaurant, a 50 cl of beer glass is 3 USD, everywhere. They are recovering from a communist society, and enjoy their new society. The average salary is about 1000 USD a month. We enjoy the history narrated by Emil, our driver and visits. Would I do it again ? on a heart beat but we would pick a longer one. We have many photos but they are the same than the brochure.

Four of us went on this tour and we all thought it was very generous in terms of food and drink. However, the thing that really made it stand out for us was Javi's passion for Malaga (and his patience to explain). He is such an energetic and fun guide, and speaks excellent English. I've been on so many tours where guides are just going through the motions but he was so warm and generous with his knowledge and really wanted us to enjoy our time both on the tour and in Malaga. He managed that fine balance between delivering enough information for the tour to be really interesting but not so much as to be overwhelming. I think it was one of the best tours I've been on anywhere in the world.

My friend and I had the pleasure of doing a tapas food tour with Spain Food Sherpas last week and it was fantastic! Highly recommended. Our guide Felipe was knowledgeable, friendly and told us so much about the history of the city and the heritage of the food and ingredients we were sampling. We had some great dishes that were new to us (Malaga figs with almonds, Malaga salad) and some favourites (padron peppers, Jamón Ibérico etc) and were taken around Malaga's historic market and some traditional delis and restaurants to sample the different foods, washed down with wine or other local drinks (such as sangria & vermouth). The 3.5 hours flew by but what was great that we weren't always walking or on our feet, it was a very relaxed afternoon, with four stops and lots of time to sit, relax and get to know our fellow guests (there was a cruise ship in town, so our group comprised of Northern Irish, English, Canadian, German and American people.

Unfortunately apart from a couple of dishes the food was a little disappointing. Elise was knowledgeable on the history of Malaga which we found interesting however the tour is marketed as a food tour and therefore should be the centerpiece and not a secondary. They need to increase their food budget the last restaurant we visited was underwhelming. Did accommodate pescitarian.

Hi!
Thank you for taking a moment to share your thoughts with us. We appreciate the kind words about Elise, she truly is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Malaga's rich history!
It saddens us to hear that the culinary aspect of your tour didn't fully meet your expectations. With every tour, we strive to showcase the true essence of Malaga's local cuisine, which at times can be a departure from what some of our guests might be familiar with.
It's important to note that our food tours, especially the one you attended that included a comprehensive visit to Atarazanas Food Market, are carefully designed with a focus on local gastronomy. The market visit, in particular, is meant to immerse our guests in the vibrant heart of Malaga's food scene. Our Taste of Malaga Tour was chosen among the 15 best food activities in the world last year.
Your feedback regarding the last restaurant and our overall food budget is noted but we disagree. Our partner establishments are chosen for their authenticity and the wonderful local dishes they serve.
Thank you for acknowledging our effort to accommodate your pescetarian preference. We strive to cater to all dietary needs, so we're pleased we were able to meet yours.

Having previously enjoyed a food and drink tour elsewhere and with it being our first visit to Málaga, we thought this tour would be a good way of not only trying some of what the city had to offer but finding out where might be good for eating and drinking during the rest of our stay.
Elise was a great guide, very friendly and knowledgeable, who took us from the Ataranzas Food Market to El Almacén del Indiano, then Terraza de las Flores and finally, Restaurante Chinitas. It was interesting to learn not only about local food and customs but also something of the city's history and architectural influences.
Food and drink were plentiful and very good, especially the Boquerones Fritos and Ensalada Malagueña and we both came away from the tour having had a great time.
Elise also recommended where to go for the best coffee in Málaga and for gelato, both of which were followed up and enjoyed!
Very much recommended.

Myself and five friends contacted Spain Food Sherpas directly because we were having trouble booking for a large group at relatively late notice and they put on an extra tour to accommodate us which was amazingly helpful.
Tour guide Javi contacted us beforehand to introduce himself and share his contact details, then met us bang on time at the arranged meet up point. Javi took us to to five different stops where we tried a range of food and drinks while he talked to us about the history and customs of Malaga. The tour and the food were fantastic; Javi was also a really fun and interesting person to spend a few hours with - we all enjoyed chatting with him.
The time flew by and at the end he gave us a great dining guide for the area, we booked two of his suggestions for the remaining days of our trip and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend this tour!

The tour gave us a good overview of the food culture in Malaga, and helped us get our bearings on our first day in the city. There were 11 of us in the group which was a good size for the tour. Elise was a really knowledgable guide and taught us a lot about the local customs and key food to try, she even recommended a pastry to try on our visit to Granada. Would recommend this tour.

We did the walking tapas tour with Javi and it was amazing! Javi was so knowledgeable about the history/culture of different foods in Malaga and it was a great way of familiarising ourselves with the city. There was also a perfect amount of food vs walking. Would recommend doing it early in your trip so that you can go back to all the places you visit/are recommended!

Our tour with Javi on Saturday 11/18 was a highlight of our stay in Malaga. We learned local history and culinary history. The tapas and beverages that we tasted in the market were delicious (padron peppers, artichokes, and white anchovies). We also tasted almonds, dried figs, and olives in the market and Javi helped us with our purchases. After the market, had three additional stops where we tasted charcuterie, a seafood soup and croquettes, then an eggplant dish and pork brochettes. We were served wine at each stop that paired perfectly with the dishes we enjoyed. Don't worry if you have dietary restrictions. At every stop, a vegetarian in our group was accommodated. Javi clearly loved sharing his city with us and offered us suggestions of additional places to visit during our stay. We highly recommend this tour.
