About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- paultames24110 contributionsExcellent value for money.I’ve been meaning to write a review for this for 2 weeks now. We did 3hrs trip with the use of the banana boat for myself, my wife and my 2 kids, (12&14). It was absolutely fantastic. The kids loved it. Jose was brilliant, we did a bit of fishing, and swimming and had some beers! I would highly recommend it. The boat was really comfortable, and Jose couldn’t have been more helpful. They had a jet ski come out and pull the banana boat, and the lad driving this was also very helpful and friendly, and was excellent with the kids. All round money well spent. We will definitely be visiting again.Written 18 August 2024
- T4246IPclaires0 contributionsJet ski/ Boat licenseExtremely friendly and professional one day small boat/ jetski license. Has given me total confidence to hire and captain a small boat, even though my primary reason was for a jetski. Great value also, would highly recommendWritten 28 July 2024
- Odyssey596933720930 contributionsFantásticoWhat a fabulous trip! Beautiful boat, warm and friendly Captain Jose and staff. We did a private hire for 5 of us for 2 hours. We sadly didn’t see much wildlife just a few rays but they were amazing. The captain let us play our own songs and we went swimming and out on the donut. Fabulous experience. We went at 0900 and that was a perfect time for the sun. 10 out of ten. Perfecto.Written 25 July 2024
- Lizzie16440 contributionsVery enjoyable, fun couple of hours. We were a party of 4 family members who thoroughly enjoyed our 3rd private charter excursion, with South Olé Sails. We were welcomed on board by Capt. George who was an excellent host for our 2 hour private charter. George took the time to explain the workings of the boat & made our experience thoroughly enjoyable. We were served Spanish cheeses, fresh fruit & a couple of glasses of Cava during our trip. Sadly, we didn’t see any dolphins on this trip, but we have seen them previously & what a magical experience it was. This company, & Capt. George, are strongly recommended if you are looking to spend a very enjoyable couple of hours at sea.Written 25 June 2024
- faeh20150 contributionsBook it!!10/10 day. Absolutely loved every second. The boat was beautiful, the staff were attentive and lovely people. We had food, drinks, music and sailed for a few hours. It was great. Very relaxing afternoon.Written 22 November 2023
- Freedom177629109060 contributionsBrilliant service highly recommendedWe booked this as a special treat for one of our family birthdays at very short notice. I’m not normally a fan of “organised fun”, but I can honestly say this was one of the best things we have ever done. The staff in the office were really friendly and our Caption Jorge (I think) was absolutely brilliant. Once he found out I was interested in yachts he allowed me to help sail and explained everything we were doing and why, whilst also serving the rest of the family with excellent drinks (including good quality fiz) and snacks etc. After a brilliant sail and swim we thought we were coming back in to port, however as a complete surprise a jet ski arrived and our group were treated to an amazing jet ski ride each FOC. It turns out the business is owned by Jorge and his wife and we would thoroughly recommend them to everyone, brilliant service, I wish all companies were this good.Written 29 September 2023
- Craffwr0 contributionsGood fun. Three hours yacht trip.Six of us went for three hours on this yacht from Estepona Harbour. Good price. You could sit on deck soaking up the sun or shelter under the canopy with Oscar the captain. This cost €375 and included the captain who entertained us with food and drinks. This included small chicken pie bits, two types of cheese and small crispy garlic bread. Plenty of beers, soft drinks and cava. Good atmosphere with music and we were lucky enough to see loads of dolphines jumping close to the yacht. We also stopped for swimming with a paddle board and dingi ring provided. The office is the first unit on the left as you drive into the harbour carpark. Free parking is a available here if you arrive early enough. I would suggest before 10am. A memorable day. Good fun. Gracias.Written 26 August 2023
- Dream451805376210 contributionsGreat experience. We had a great time with capt Oscar on the yacht; good conversation, great fun; all-in-all a great day out for the whole family. Having a beer in the donut while being pulled along is definitely something to be experienced! Highly recommended.Written 12 August 2023

- 33colleenj0 contributionsRental Bikes in Poor ConditionWe rented bikes, hoping to cycle the promenade from Estepona to Marbella. We asked if the tires were checked, pumped, brakes etc and told they were fine. NOT so, had a flat within 35 minutes, had to wait 1 hour for the office to arrive. They offered another bike in exchange, on this bike the left hand brakes did nto work at all. When we shortened our original plan and returned, we shared our frustrations with the shop, they just shrugged their shoulders. Horrible customer service.Written 13 June 2023

- O8172SYsarahl0 contributionscharming captain for a family cruiseGorgeous family trip with our charming private captain, Jorje, looking for dolphins (which unfortunately weren’t out due to choppier waters - but nothing is guaranteed with wild animals!). Music playing, cold drinks provided and a lovely scenic trip down the coast enjoying each other’s company. Brilliantly run enterprise with a highly professional service (including a refund for waterskiing without request due to the waters being too rough) for beginners. Highly recommend and will be returning.Written 20 August 2022
- 983marieclairew0 contributionsWould love to get the pics!Had a brilliant time speeding around Estepona on a jetski with my partner - would love to get the photos back from the experience that were taken by the intructor! - johnhB2238FG0 contributionsStay awayPlease be very careful about using this company. We rented two jet skis for 30mins (€99 each) and were only on the water for 23mins. This was including time in the port, going in and out. The guide asked us to give him a good review on line when we came back in. We raised our concern with the rental office on return and they did not want to know about it.Written 21 July 2022
- MarkF9350 contributionsExcellentA really fun and informative course run by Jorge. Lots of hands on practical experience and well delivered and easy to understand/remember theory. Emily was very helpful and arranged the whole day perfectly. Highly recommend.Written 10 February 2022

What a perfect way to spend my 50th birthday with a lovely surprise dorm Jorge and Emily. We had an amazing time. Jorge was friendly and knowledgeable and kept the cava flowing. It was so special to see jumping baby tunas and a sun fish. It was fantastic value but felt very special. Booking with Emily was very easy and there is cheap parking in the marina right near the departure point. We would thoroughly recommend this spacious, clean and well equipped yacht (paddle board and donut). Thank you so much.

Great day out with Jorge, great host, looked after us really well. Would have preferred bit more wind and some sea chop, proper sailing, but SO Sails can’t be blamed for that! Did get some time under sail then the jet ski/donut time made the day for our party of kids in their 20’s. Bit of fishing thrown in as well. Best day of the hols according to our gang. Recommend 👍👍

I think your price is wrong on Tripadvisor. Are you sure it’s £466 per person? This must be the total price for the whole trip surely?

Our family of 4 booked an 8 day, customized trip with South Ole Spain Tours. I had done a lot of research prior to finding South Ole. So I sent them the itinerary I had sketched out and asked for opinions and options and for help booking everything. I suppose I should have seen the red flag when the original itinerary they sent to me listed the total price as the price per person (yikes, that would have been very expensive)..... It was very difficult to get details and specifics while planning. I had to continuously ask questions to get information, nothing was offered. I suppose now, that is because they are not so tuned in to the details.
Our first night in Barcelona was the 1st trouble. They forgot to book a room with separate beds for our male/female teens (something we had specifically requested for obvious reasons)....luckily the hotel was able to remedy this, even though we then had rooms on different floors.
Second 'incident'...we had requested tickets for the cable car from Port Vell in Barcelona to Monjuic. When we arrived at the cable car, we were told our tickets were for a different cable car, one that is already at Monjuic. We ended up not able to take the cable car that day and went back the following day only to wait over 90 minutes on line to get on.
With these two errors in our first 2 days, we were getting stressed about things being accurate. I decided to check our tickets for our upcoming visit to the Dali house. We had requested an 11am reservation time and that is what our itinerary said. However, the tickets were for 9am. Ugh....We called South Ole ASAP. Emily tried, but told us that she was not able to change the reservation but that when we got there, they would try to get us in. Knowing we did not have a reservation time any more, we didn't rush to get there at a specific time. But when we did arrive (after 11am), we were told that she had in fact been able to change the reservation and that they had expected us to arrive between 10:30-11am. But now we had missed our time slot. Luckily, after waiting for 1 hour, they fit us in. But that ruined what was to be an afternoon on the beach.
We had requested a hotel in Olot as a center point for a hot air balloon ride and some day trips to Tavertet and Rupit. Turns out, the hotel that she booked was actually in Llanares, 20 minutes drive further than Olot. While the itinerary said this was 15 minutes from the balloon ride, it was actually a 45 minute drive. 1 hour 15 minutes drive to Rupit and 1 hour 45 minutes drive to Tavertet. We spent a lot of time in the car. She should have recommended that we stay in a hotel right near the balloon ride (when we had to awake before sunrise). This was a much more central location and would have saved us hours of driving in the coming days. At the very least, a hotel in Olot as requested, would have saved us much driving. If there were no hotels in those areas, we should have been informed. I just don't think South Ole is familiar with the area and they just didn't do the research (one of the things we rely on a travel agent for).
Were these mistakes devastating? No. However, with multiple mistakes, we were constantly stressed, wondering if the next stop would be correct. We were especially praying that the balloon company had our reservation since we had to get up before sunrise to get there in time. Luckily that one worked out. This is not how a vacation should be. Certainly not one executed by a travel agent.
The one final mistake was the reservation for the Flamenco show for our last night in Barcelona. We arrived on time for our "8:45pm" reservation. Turns out, our reservations were on record for the 7pm show. Again, we got lucky and they had room for us. Emily did send me the email showing her request for the later show...but did she follow up and confirm? I guess not....
Using a travel agent is for reducing stress and making things easier. This was not the case with South Ole Spain. Using a travel agent is to enable you to tap into an experienced knowledge base. In many cases we did not find this a benefit of using South Ole either.
I did not give a rating of Poor because there were many things that did work out fine. The hotels were all nice and in nice locations (with the one location exception mentioned above). The guided tours for the most part were good. We really liked our tour guides in both Girona and in the Pyrenees. (We didn't love our Barcelona guide. He was very rushed and prejudiced and made his feelings known).
I truly do not like to give bad reviews. However, I had recommended South Ole to a friend of mine as well, who is still away. But the reports back from here were of multiple mistakes with her reservations as well. I just don't want this to happen to others.
If you do use South Ole, CHECK EVERY DETAIL.

Hi Karen,
I appreciate your review! I am glad to hear that as I heard from my guides, you did have a good vacation overall.
As you know, you sent me your planned itinerary to begin with that you had already researched. I based the itinerary I created for you off of this initial itinerary. I thought it had a lot of great new ideas - which I communicated to you at the time.
I much appreciated you letting me know that your family was very specific in what you wanted to see, that everyone had a different taste and that we were also dealing with some dietary issues. So, as you can imagine a great deal of planning went into your trip on our part.
We are in constant communication with our guides, and they did mention that you had your itinerary in hand making sure you didn't miss even one thing on there. Good for you!
From what I saw, over a period of 8 days, there were 4 specific issues that did not go as planned:
1. The first hotel did not have separate beds for your teenage children. After I called, they were able to dress the king-size bed with two separate sleeping areas. This bed issue happened nowhere else.
2. The hotel you requested in your original itinerary on Inspirock was further than you expected from the hot air balloon venue you had looked at. Now, I did speak to both my drivers and the hot air balloon venue to find out the exact time. What was on the itinerary reflected what I was told.
3. The tickets for the cable car were for the top of Montjuic instead of from Port Vell to Montjuic. As you remember, I offered to pay for a taxi as soon as I found out about the situation. I'm sorry you didn't take me up on that offer.
4. The Dali Museum was booked for earlier than expected. This is truly my fault completely and I apologize. I did try to remedy it but was unable to.
I really enjoyed planning your trip and was able to include a great deal of new activities there. I actually did travel to the area to get to know it better as your friend Fran Scharf was in Barcelona.
Kind regards,
Emily

Our party of 4 contacted Emily in June 2015 to help us plan our 12 day September trip to Spain arranging transportation from and to airports/train station to our hotels and arrange private guided tours , 3 days in Barcelona, (with city tour, tour of Freixenet Family "Cava" Winery , the seaside town of Sitges and a half day tour of Montserrat; 2 days in Granada, with a private tour of the Alhambra; private transport from Granada to Sevilla, stopping at the seaside town of Malaga with a private guided "Tapas Tour" and a tour of Antequera; 2 days in Sevilla with private tour of the city and flamenco show; Train tickets to Madrid, 3 days in Madrid, with private tour of city, and private tour of the ancient town of Toledo.
All transportation services and guides were excellent, however we did experience one disappointment in our trip to the wine caves of Freixenet, at the last minute our hotel pick up was delayed from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, when we arrived at the winery in a pouring rain we found out we missed our "English Speaking" Group Tour of approximately 20 people by an hour, thinking we were to have a private tour I contacted Emily and she informed us that we did not have a "private guided tour", but we had all ready missed the winery tour after driving about one hour. Emily did compensate us with another private winery tour the same day at Miquel Jane winery, which turned out excellent!
If it had not been the frustration and misunderstanding at Freixenet, this review would have been rated excellent! My advice is take nothing for granted and make sure if you want a private guide thats want your getting, not a local "group" guided tour.
