Just outside of passport control when we arrived. On time. Friendly. Car was clean. freshwater offered. He knew exactly where to take us. Helped with luggage. Gave some tips of what to see in the city. Great conversation

Nice airport with kids friendly areas, lots of duty free shopping available and quite nice restaurants. Staff at immigration a bit rude do.

Frankfurt in 5 hours - Excellent Overview
We arrived in Frankfurt with a 10 hour layover, so checked our extra bags to be able to do the Viatour Romantic Road - Touring Tours and Travel - 5 hours private sightseeing tour with round trip to the airport to see the highlights of the city we always stop in but never see. Our guide Andreas showed up in a Mercedes Benz SUV to meet us. We left the airport where he parked and then walked and toured the Old Town with Andreas giving details on population, nationalities and history. Next, we went to the banking and financial district and the Opera House. We drove past the University that has 40000 students and continued driving looking for a parking spark near a quaint and ‘real’ German Restaurant ‘Fichtekranzi Wallstr ‘ We did try excellent German ‘basic food’ (wiener schnitzel) then continued for a drive to the bridge where we walked through the square then over the bridge and returned to have ice cream. As our time was up, Andreas took us back to the car and ‘raced’ us back to the terminal. For a quick stop and 5 hour tour, we did get what we were expecting - walking and seeing the towns historical and new age structures. Being in a private vehicle was an added bonus.

DO NOT TAKE THE BUS “Touring Tours & Travel GMBH”
Its dangerous. It was a horrible experience. We told ehim to please not use his cell phone but he ignored us. We almost had an accident three times. He made a mistake on the road. We were supposed to have 20min stop in some places but he said only 10. just Find another way. This is the only bus unfortunately. All was so wrong. Terrible experience.

Romantic road from frankfurt to munich via rothenburg
We had organised transport from frankfurt travelling along the romantic road stopping at rothenburg for one night before boarding again the next day to finish in munich. The first day pick up the bus arrived late, about 10mins which wasn't much but we were starting to worry we were in the wrong spot. So by the time the bags were loaded and all tickets checked, may have put us abit behind schedule as they make 3 stops along the way to take a few snaps amd stretch ypur legs but some stops felt quite rushed. Its not a fully guided tour but there is someone on board to tell you how long you have at each spot etc, on the first day we had a , i think possibly romanian guide, the language barrier made it quite hard sometimes and lacked abit on his professionalism, stratching out, putting his feet up on the seats and reclining his seat fully back into a customer. The second day was much better. Different driver and guide and this was brilliant, we had a german guide who spoke english and he was very friendly and informative, sharing some german history with us. Overall a good way to see the area, the small towns and country side. Would recommend it but maybe just be prepared for those few type of things

      Not for Me
My friend and I booked Tour EB 605 from Munich to Frankfurt in September 2017. We found the tour on line and took it because it covered the cities that we wanted to see. This is a self help type of tour: you go to an address and find your bus to take you to the next destination at a specific time. In Munich we had difficulty finding our bus because Touring subcontracts with local operators and there was no one to clarify which tour we had to join. We were lucky that one of the other guides knew about Touring and could point us to the correct bus. In the next stop we were given our coupons at the hotel as expected but after that we were in the hands of the bus drivers who were often rude, short tempered and ultimately did not know where we were supposed to go. Some were even reluctant to help us with our luggage. In one location, we were supposed to get a local tour to visit the city but the tour did not exist. We wrote Touring requesting a reimbursement of that portion but we never heard from then. This is truly a ghost operation and suitable for travelers that do not need assistance. And if you get into a problem there is nobody that you can go to. I do not recommend the service.

      Nice Scenic Drive
The Romantic Road tour offers a nice scenic view of the local countryside, including the vineyards, mustard and beet and corn fields, as well as the livestock ( sheep and cattle) which are common to the area.

      Touring Romantic Road Tour
This is the worst tour we have ever taken. The people of the Touring office where we had to pick the vouchers up treated as trash. Touri g just cares about charging you buy they do not care about you. Very bad quality. Do not recommend.

      Romantic Rd Coach Company
We booked the coach from Rothenburg to Nördlingen on 19/8/and we were very happy with the service. The only problem was that I didn't get any email confirmation. Just had to make a note of the booking reference. The driver did not have us on our list but let us on. We booked the bus again the following day from Nordlingen to Augsburg but it did not show and there was no reply to the telephone numbers on their brochure. I've sent 2 email so and still no response. This meant we missed seeing Augsburg as we had to wait until 6.15 for the train. Very disappointed 😥

My mom and I joined the 4 nights 5 days romantic road tour with English guide. The trip went to well until Augsburg. When we arrived the bus stop to go to Hohenschwangau the bus didn't show up even though we wait there for hour and half!!! Ended up, we forced to stay same hotel we stayed last night. I have called the company so many times, but they never answer the phone and their emergency number was not working at all!!! Also, their site said that this tour was English guide tour, but there were personal guides or conductors. They handed you vouchars and need to do everything by yourself, and also, they just give a small audio guid(not really worth) to explain the cities. If we know that there was no personal tour conductors or guids, we would not join the tour at first place....I totally disappointed the results of this trip, yes there was a reason for the cheap trip. I am not recommend anyone to this company!! Please don't fall for the cheap price.

Great way to travel the Romantic Road in German
We began our trip in Frankfurt (met the coach at 8am in front of the train station) & traveled to Rothenberg ob der Tauber for a 3-night stay. The ride was pleasant with lovely scenery & the coach was clean & comfortable. We stopped in a few quaint medieval villages for about 20 minutes so we could take photos or grab a snack. The driver gave us maps & little radios so we could listen (with our earphones) to the descriptions & history of the little villages interspersed with lively German music :) Following our stay in Rothenberg, we hopped back on the bus when it stopped in the afternoon & traveled to Munich, where we were staying for 3 more days. Along the way, we stopped for more little village visits (3 or 4 places). The coach no longer stops in Munich but instead drops us at Augsburg, where we use our ticket to get on the train (about 1/2 hour) to the main station in Munich. It was quite easy, but disconcerting at first. Here is something that impressed us: my husband had purchased a beer stein in Rothenburg, which he inadvertently left on the bus when we got off in Augsberg. He didn't realize until the next morning & emailed the Romantic Road Coach company. He received a reply within an hour. The driver had found the package (with the stein). They tried twice to get it to us while we were in Munich but each time, by happenstance, the attempts were fruitless. Instead, they kindly sent the package via DHL to our home in Michigan! My husband sent the shipping payment to the RR Coach Company via Paypal & it arrived safe & sound within a week of our arrival home. We were very impressed with their honesty and caring assistance and we enjoyed our carefree trip along the Romantic Road

Practical way of traveling along the Romantic Road
I bought a ticket for the Frankfurt-Füssen direction, starting from Würzburg and ending in Munich. I selected the date I was first going to board the bus. I had in mind to book accomodation myself and stop over at Rothenburg o. d. T. for two days and then in Dinkelsbühl for one day. And it all worked out wonderfully! Pros: The Romantic Road Coach is a great way to see the beautiful towns that stretch along the historic Romantic Road. I would imagine it's more practical than taking the train because the bus stops right in the town center. The hop-on-hop-off concept is ideal if you want to spend a day or two to see around the towns, which you should. The scenery along the bus route is quite pretty, with green fields and cute farmhouses. On the whole, I recommend traveling along the Romantic Road on the RR Coach. Cons: The bus can be late. Sometimes even 30-40 minutes late. As a result, it stops for a shorter period of time in the next town in order to keep up with the schedule. We were supposed to have 30 minutes in Nördlingen but ended up having only 15 because we were running late. The Wi-fi doesn't always work in the bus. The drivers are very friendly but speak little English. It might be a little tricky to communicate, but it works out fine really. Tips: *Read the brochure on the RR Coach website under Timetable. All the information you need is written there but it was kind of confusing for me at first. Make sure you have a copy of it (including the schedule) with you when you're traveling. The brochure includes phone numbers you can call if the bus is late. *You can buy the ticket in the bus from the driver when you board. You can also buy it online in advance, print it out and present it to the driver. *The brochure says you have to book partial itineraries separately if you want a fixed seat reservation but we never had trouble finding an empty seat. The bus is big and there were hardly more than 10 passengers at once. *There are Request Stops that you need to tell the driver beforehand to go to. These are indicated in the brochure. The bus will drive through all the other towns but will only stop at the Photo Stops. These are also listed in the brochure. For example, the bus will go through Röttingen but won't stop there unless you tell the driver that you want to get off. *The bus is not the same color as in the pictures on the brochure but you find some indication that it is the RR Coach. Its direction of travel is also written on the windscreen. *The brochure only lists the departure times after 18:00 for the Augsburg-Munich train. But since the RR Coach ticket is valid for 6 months, you can take the train from Augsburg to Munich at whatever date and time within this 6-month period. For example, you can spend the night in Augsburg and take the train next morning. Just keep in mind that your ticket is only valid for regional trains (RE), not intercity (IC) trains. The driver gave me separate a train ticket and put a stamp on it when I told him that I was going to take the train. I'm not sure if that was absolutely necessary as this is not mentioned at all in the brochure. Good to keep in mind though. *If you have any questions about the RR Coach, you can send an email to one of the e-mail addresses listed in the Contact section of the website where you can purchase RR Coach tickets online. I did and got back a reply in English within 2-3 days.

      Bad bus compagny
This was a bad experience because: _The bus was 30 minutes late; _The driver used his cell phone during driving; _The driver did not spoke english; _During one bus stop the driver left without us, we were at 10 meters from the bus I ran to catch it but the driver did not stop. Because of his late at Wurzburg the driver decided to shorten the stops. We called the touring company and they recomanded us to took a taxi to catch the bus. They pretented that the bus cannot go back to catch us because of the time schedulled.

Bad drivers, no english speaking, on their phone while driving!
This is the only company doing the Romantic Road and because of lack of time, we booked it.The driver was half an hour late when leaving Wurzburg, so in order to catch up, he shortened the stops in each town. First stop, 5 mins, he left without us and our bags in the coach. We called the central and told us to take a taxi to the next tour stop. They refused to call the bus driver and tell him to get back. The bus driver was upset with us and started to argue with us!!! That totally scared the entire japanese group in the bus that would not dare go away from the bus at each stop. Awful experience, spoiled all the beautiful sites we saw. They never refund the taxi fee and impossible to make a complaint on their website.

Went on a day trip to Rothenburg with my parents on part of my Eurotrip. This place is a medieval wonder land. The old city fortress walls and towers are still intact and surround the entire historic inner Rothenburg. Restaurants and hotels galore there’s days worth of exploring to do. My wife and I are spending 4 days in an AirBnB there in December for the Christmas markets. Beautiful fun, historic, cultural and delicious food! Must for anyone visiting Germany!

This route has changed dramatically since April 2019

Let me start by noting that Touring Tours & Travel no longer manages the Romantic Road Bus/Coach (either the schedule or the guides). Since April 2019, the Romantic Road Coach has a new schedule (with a departure from Frankfurt on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9am). The route has been updated, and travelers can choose from round-trip and one-way tickets.

We drop by at Rothenburg ob der Tauber after our visit to Nuremberg. Rothenburg is well known for its well-preserved medieval walled town. The town is surrounded by wall and awesome Towers & gates at several locations. We can walk on this wall that surrounds the old town. The buildings are colourful and very beautiful. The whole town is very neat and it is really enjoyable to take a stroll here. We can slowly walk around the town, enjoying the many shops in the town. The whole town is simply picturesque and we should definitely make a trip here if we are in the vicinity.

My colleague and I were very disappointed in this tour, and quite, frankly, frightened by the driving on our return. Let me start by telling the story of our journey:

We arrived at 7:44 a.m. at bus stop A4. There was no coach, there was no check in; we were confused. The departure was to be at 8:00 a.m. We called the 2 numbers on our reservation and received no answer. (+49-176 18687707 and +49-69-719126-268). We found 2 other tourists awaiting the same coach. We did not receive a text or e-mail advising of any delays. This caused quite a bit of stress as we'd already paid for our journey and were looking forward to a fun day of sightseeing. At LAST, the bus approached at 8:33. We thought, based on the information given in the inclusions, that an English Speaking guide would be on the coach. There was not an English speaking guide until we got to the main square in Rothenburg. The bus driver was not able to communicate with us.

He dropped us at the bus stop and when we asked where the restaurant was he pointed up the street, but that street didn't have the same name as the address of the restaurant. We confirmed we needed to meet back at the same place he dropped us off at 4:50 for departure and he mentioned 4:30..

The lunch...not recommended, and it took a while to locate the restaurant, leaving less time to enjoy the city. We arrived back at the bus stop at 4:29 pm. We grabbed food from the restaurant there and waited, and waited, and waited for the bus. We figured, time wasn't too important since it was over 30 minutes late in the morning. We became very concerned after a delay of over 15 minutes, so we called the emergency # again. No answer. We saw a posting at the bus station and called that number. We were told we weren't AT the bus stop at the appointed time and we would have to wait until the next morning for pick up. WHAT? We were at the same place we were dropped off, and according to the paperwork, we should have been dropped off and picked up at the same station. After much discussion, the bus driver agreed to come pick us up IF we paid an extra 50 Euros! We already paid for transportation and the tour! THEN, 5 minutes later we received a call saying they would not return to pick us up. Talk about high stress and anxiety!! We needed to fly out the next morning! A call back to the bus driver confirmed he would be back in 30 minutes and we would need to pay the extra Euros.
The bus DID come and the driver argued about the payment, I dumped out all change and cash, and offered 49 Euros plus American dollars to make up the difference. He then agreed to 35 Euros and signed the receipt I asked him to sign. Apparently, there is another bus stop the original driver should have dropped us at.

Riding on the bus became very dangerous. The driver was recklessly driving at great speeds around the curving roads. We were concerned about other travelers on the road and ourselves. I believe we had divine intervention when, on a straight section of the road, a driver passed the bus...and slowed down once he passed to make the bus slow down. The car driver then stopped completely, causing the bus to slam on the breaks. The driver got out of his car and started yelling at the bus driver telling him to slow down...he asked for the drivers name and bus number. Then the car started driving at a reasonable speed, ensuring the bus did as well.

The overall experience of this tour was HORRIBLE. I'd booked this through Veltra, and wrote an e-mail to Touring Tours and Travel at and never received a response. I'd read reviews before booking and most of them were acceptable, with a few that were cautionary. Find another option if you want to enjoy your travels!
