Overview
Discover the city of Potsdam, once home to Prussian kings and the German Kaiser, on a 6-hour walking tour from Berlin. See how royalty left its mark on the city's streets as you wander past Cecilienhof Palace, King Frederick William II’s Marble Palace, the Dutch quarter, and the UNESCO-listed Sanssouci Palace and Gardens. Stop for lunch (own expense) in the city center, learn the regal history behind each site that you pass, and return to your original departure point in Berlin when your tour concludes.
What to Expect
Start your trip outside Berlin’s Hackescher Markt Station. Join up with your guide and take a 15-mile (24km) train journey outside the city center to Potsdam, once the home to German royalty.
Stop by the palace of Cecilienhof, the site of the famous 1945 conference between the United States, Soviet Union, and United Kingdom, where Truman, Churchill, and Stalin would seal Germany and Europe’s fate for the 20th Century, laying the groundwork for the Cold War. Continue to King Frederick William II’s Marble Palace, with its recreated Greek temple and scenic lakeside setting. From there, make your way through the 18th-century Nauener Gate and into Potsdam’s quaint Dutch quarter.
Break for lunch at your choice of several cafes in Potsdam’s town center. Stop off for a German beer or try some traditional coffee and cake. Once you’ve refueled, make your way through Potsdam’s own Brandenburg Gate (built before Berlin’s) to a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Frederick the Great’s Sanssouci Palace and Gardens.
Your walking tour will finish next to the Sanssouci Palace. Your guide will then take you on public transportation back to Berlin or, if you prefer, you can stay in Potsdam on your own to enjoy more of the gardens, visit the inside of one of the palaces, or even stay for dinner.

Lovely day out to Potsdam

I had a really good time with Wouter on this tour. He was very patient and took time to answer all the extra questions. Didn't seem rehearsed at all, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Beautiful area

Great day's walk round with Wouter, beautiful scenery and an plenty of historical context. Only thing to be aware of is that the statues in the first palace garden are boxed up unti April - so if that's your interest wait until summer.

Great Tour

Carlos was a great guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and he made the tour fun. He made sure we all knew how to get back to Berlin and I really appreciated that. I highly recommend doing this tour with him.
