- KarinnaCraig0 contributionsFabulous day trip exploring incredible historical placesWe had a fabulous trip which began in Munich. We visited Harburg Castle, Rothenburg and so much more. We loved Rothenburg and loved exploring the town and sampling the local produce, visiting Romantic Road and all on offer. What a beautiful place to see. We also loved our tour of Harburg Castle. So incredible. Go see it for yourself. You must do!Written 11 January 2025

It would be better without the stop at Hapsburg castle, you either had to go through it or sit outside in the cold since there is nothing else to do around. Rothenburg was great. Just wish we would have had more time. This is a large tour bus FYIWritten 28 December 2024
- LoveTravel4430810 contributionsWonderful day tour!We had a fantastic time on our tour with Elisabeth. It was such a fun day learning the history of castles and the local history as well. Would highly recommend the tour. Elisabeth was a fantastic guide. Extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. The drive alone out there was so peaceful and scenic. Even being extremely jet lagged we had a blast!Written 21 December 2024
- Itchyfeet020 contributionsLaid back Salzburg experience. Our tour started with a relaxing bus ride from central Munich to Salzburg, with informative commentary along the way. Upon arrival in Salzburg, our guide took us on a guided walk around town, pointing out key sights. We were then given free time to explore to our heart's content. Our day ended with another relaxing bus ride back to Munich. Out tour guide (Melanie) and driver (Robert) were professional, helpful and accommodating; nothing was too much trouble for them.Written 20 December 2024
- Betsy L0 contributionsHighly recommend VIP tour!!Our tour guide was Barbara and she was delightful! The VIP tour really was everything as advertised as well, this was the first tour we had one person per row and side of the bus!! Hot coffee or tea on the bus, waters, snacks, and beers at the end. Barbara was very informative and knowledgeable, I found myself zoning out and looking at the beautiful mountains as we drove out to the two castles! Overall highly recommend!!!Written 19 December 2024

- Q6875RVbrooket0 contributionsHighly recommendAbsolutely wonderful. We booked this tour because we left it too late to get our own tickets to Neuschwanstein. I wouldn’t have even visited Linderhof, but it was one of the most beautiful palaces I’ve seen. All around excellent. The VIP buss normally holds around 70 but we were a group of 25 or so with extra large and comfortable seats. The tour guide Elizabeth was excellent. I really appreciate a well organized tour and this was top notch. Elizabeth was really knowledgeable and the history of King Ludwig is spellbinding. Highly recommend!Written 19 December 2024

Very good experience in Christmas holiday. Beautiful scenery, nice castles and villages, snow in the mountains. Really romantic tour. The information that our guide Clara gave us was useful. The guide inside Linderhof Castle very well informed. The audio guide inside Neuschwanstein Castle was rather quick in order to finish the tour and receive the next group. They receive groups every five minutes! We stopped to the Bavarian town of Oberammergau for only half an hour in order to be at Neuschwanstein Castle on time. This sort visit is not enough for Oberammergau. In my opinion the cost of this tour is rather expensive. The price for the tour is 57 euros per person without the cost of the tickets to enter the two Castles. The cost of the tickets for the Castles is additional 26 euros per person, which include 4,5 euros as booking fee for the the travel agency!! Furthermore we didn't get an receipt for the tickets payment.

This is a beautiful castle visit. I would highly recommend visiting these castles by yourself instead of joining a tour group so that you can choose what you wanna do and it’s not to early in the morning. We took a train from Munich central to Füssen then took a bus to the castle. Altogether it cost us around 23 euros for each person round trip and we got to eat at the places we wanted as well as visit on our own pace.
The lake before the castle is amazing.
This new castle is still being constructed from the outside and it does not have the feel of those ancient designs or architecture.
It’s still very beautiful and worth visiting

We visited both castles with a short stop in Oberammergau. Hamzich was an amazing driver, navigating those winding roads, and had a variety of drinks available for us to purchase at more reasonable prices than the places we were stopping at. Our guide Susan was a wealth of knowledge. It’s obvious she loves her country and she passed some of that onto us with her stories. We also appreciated that they changed the timing of the itinerary around in consideration of the weather and tourist numbers to ensure that we had the best possible experience at all places. Highly recommend this tour. It was a highlight of our visit to Munich

Took this tour as I have parents who are less physically able. Linderhof had all the statues, fountains, and gardens etc all covered up with plywood so there wasn’t much to see at the stop. We were also told the castle tours would be physically challenging with stairs etc so opted not to go inside. We stopped in a gorgeous little town but it wasn’t really long enough to see much. If you wanted to walk to the other side of town to see the fairytale painted houses you needed to hustle and would not have time for any souvenirs. The Neuschwanstein was very crowded with long waits to get a shuttle up to the castle which was an additional fee. If you didn’t get the shuttle it was a very steep 45min walk to the top. If you didn’t go to the top you couldn’t really see much of the castle at all and other than restaurants there was no where to sit down. I don’t recommend this tour for anyone who is elderly or less mobile and would say that in the warmer months when the gardens and castle surrounds are not boarded up it would have been a better experience. Neuschwanstein itself was beautiful and the tour staff were brilliant. Please note that castle entry is not included in the price of the tour neither is the shuttle service to see the castle.

The day itself with the castles was very magical and we found it very interesting to explore the castles.
Wanted to share that Elizabeth and her self titled “happy group” began the day with Elizabeth sharing some info on what was ahead and the plan of the day. Without any questions for the participants in this group she was direct in sharing that she often is asked if tipping is required in Munich and she said 10-20% of cost is a general rule if you have been provided with good service and you are happy with the experience.. but not mandatory, but common. I found it then very interesting that Elizabeth asked for feedback, much if which was positive and then declared it an enjoyable day for all before bidding us farewell on the bus at the end of the day then mentioned that herself and the bus driver would be located outside of the front of the bus when we depart if we would like to personally thank them and share appreciation. A few other guests on the bus trip (not known to us prior to the day) commented “she’s basically telling people it is customary and announcing she expects a tip”. We also agreed that it was bold to self promote tipping and when it was our turn to leave the back of the bus, noted that Elizabeth had a handful of notes/money which we had seen others pass onto her. With a large amount of first time travellers to the region, I would consider the customers to be vulnerable and therefore question Elizabeth’s practices in making extra financial gain in this service. There is a difference between an offered small gesture of appreciation and an extra 20% cash gain which is substantial considering the number of people in the group and the cost of the tour ticket price.
I believe it is unjust and poor form, but something for you to consider before choosing this tour.

It’s with great disappointment that I write this review. This was the second time my wife and I have taken this tour and based on the outstanding experience we had on our first visit I decided to do it again. However, this time it was for the benefit of my sister, who had accompanied us on our return trip.
Here are the issues we had; firstly we ordered an English speaking package. When our guide was giving her initial briefing, informing us of what we were to expect on the tour she announced the tour was now going to be bilingual, in both German and English. Now don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no issue with anything German, I absolutely love Germany and everything it has to offer. Here's where we had our problem, our guide talked endlessly from the very beginning often verging on rambling, switching back and forth between the two languages without break. This was overwhelming, confusing, and extremely frustrating. A total contrast to our first visit in 2017. It wasn’t long before the educational value of the experience was lost, very disappointing.
Secondly, one of the main reasons I chose this tour and tour company was the advertised stop in Oberammergau. My wife and I absolutely fell in love with the picturesque little town on our first visit. Shortly after we departed Munich we were informed we wouldn't be stopping there at all, only doing a drive-through, which was confusing because there weren't any time constraints. Had this been advertised I never would have selected this tour, as this was one of the key features I wanted my sister to experience.
Thirdly, the state of Neuschwanstein Castle. The amount of ongoing renovations was disappointing, for example, the throne room. You couldn’t enjoy the room at all due to the amount of scaffolding surrounding the room. I would estimate 60% of the view was obstructed. Seeing how the throne room is one of the key exhibits in a castle this was frustrating. Also, the tour itself felt very lazy. Again we ordered an English tour package, expecting our guide to explain what we were seeing in english, just like it was on our first visit. The guide actually never spoke to us at all. Instead, they gave us handheld audio devices. Also, the tour was shortened and some features were omitted, such as being brought out onto one of the castle’s balconies. Again this was confusing as to why it was omitted, the groups were already reduced in size and everyone was wearing masks. At this point, I was beginning to wonder what I paid $92.07 a person for.
Finally, after all these reductions and shortcuts, we noticed an advertisement on the side of one of the Gray Line busses for a 25% discount on this tour. This was never an option for us. Perhaps had we had the opportunity for some sort of financial compensation for what was lost on this package, it may have mitigated some of my family's disappointment.

Upon booking this tour back in early December, the site did state that castle entrance fees were not included, however failed to mention that the tour guide would be going around the bus collecting money from the passengers to purchase these tickets. We did not have cash in hand and assumed everyone would have the opportunity to purchase on site at the group rate. Boy were we wrong! We were able to purchase tickets to the Linderhof Palace, however did not get so lucky at Neuschwanstein Castle. By the time our bus arrived there, the tickets were sold out for the day. This was quite disappointing to all 7 of us that traveled all the way there and could not experience the Castle. Other than that, the bus is very comfortable and the scenery throughout the day was very beautiful.

First off, Monika was a terrific guide- she was a great story teller and we learned a lot about King Ludwig.
Our dissatisfaction was the with the lack of communication prior to the tour. We went this past Sunday. Of course one can't control theweather and it was a foggy and cloudy day and we couldn't see the countryside or the approach to the castles. That was unavoidable.
My issue was that we booked a Sunday and all the shops and restuarants in Oberammergau were closed. The tour company should post in their description that this was the case. The 30 minute stop was pretty much useless.
The second point of contention was that the shuttles up to the castle don't run in winter, so we had to either walk up a very steep 1.4 mile hill or pay for a horse drawn carriage, which was fun in itself, but required a 30 minute wait in line to get a seat.
Overall, I would not recommend this 75+ passenger tour and suggest Grayline notify their bookings that the day of the week and time of year really make a difference. Rather look at Radius Tours out of Munich which offer a much smaller group tour at the same price.

Thank you very much for your comments which always give us the opportunity to improve our services. Great to hear about your satisfaction with our tour guide Monika. It is legal regulation that shops are closed in Germany Sundays. So we are very sorry that you were not able to enjoy your stop at Oberammergau. The shuttles up the mountain run depending on weather conditions and the long walk is mentioned on the booking website. However, we thank you for your feedback which we will discuss within our team. We would love to welcome you to one of our other tours to convince you of our great service.

The time spent insise each castle is minimal and most of the time is spent on a bus. The castles themselves are gorgeous but photos inside both are not allowed, which is understandable in some respects. The large castle, Neuschwanstein felt rather rushed (about 40 minutes inside) considering the size of the castle, this seemed like a short tour. I signed up for the premium edition and the hosts offered water and coffee throughout the ride to the castles, but never asked anyone if they cared for snacks, which they have on the bus for the premium package tour. Lastly, the guide seemed a bit aggressive with their puppy that accompanied them on the tour. I understand it's a young pup and tends to wonder off or hide, but handling such a small animal by pulling/dragging the poor thing by the leash seemed inappropriate, especially in front of tourists.

Dont go with this tour company, go with other company
Its the most unorganized and mess up tour ever. I travel to a lots of country and experienced a lots of tour company and this is the most horrible one ever.
Start from the begining. They are no sign no queue, no information where the line start. You just go there and u need to asked people around you where is the end of the line and is english or other language. Then after u fine the right line. It took so long time to get people into the bus and on the way i still see they sell a new ticket to new joiner. We start the trip at about 8.50am, ok i might because of a lots of people but i believe if you guy organize and i dont understand when yourself the ticket you could book the seat and give the token number or something so it will not be that much mess up and delay like this. Then wee need to pay for the ticket 27€ each for the castle in the bus
Then first stop point at the Lindehof castle. They give us about 50mins or less and the tour told us the meeting time. I dont know if i heard the time wrong or what so at the end i missed the bus however the tour guide her name Daniel which not organize anything properly. She not check on us again so she left us. We were just around there because i think we still have time. Me and my mom went to wait for the toilet. And came out at the parking at the meeting time that i understood there was nobody there. They left us. Luckily, we managed to find the way with local bus to the castle byself and got into the bus at the Neuschwanstein castle.
And the funny part is at the end the tour guide just realize that she missed 2 person in the tour after all day because she was count the people in the bus and total count there are extra people in the bus. So she said she really sorry and she just notice now why she have 2 ticket left for the Neuschwanschtein castle and she asked me why i dont let her know but how can i if i dont have her contact number.
I'm just foreigners came here so far from Asia which one of the best hospitality service. Im so disappointed at this tour company how they organized and treat us. And the tour guide name Daniel.
The castle was really nice after all.
Dear,
I have a few questions related to the tour. Around what time does the tour leave, and around what time does the tour arrive back in Munich.
Is it possible to use the multi-day map of the Bavarian Palace Administration, at Neuschwanstein Castle and at Linderhof Castle.
Kind regards
Senne Balus

Unless you are driving yourself; it is an organised bus tour usually, very busy and no facilities for luggage....

What is the food situation like on this tour? Do they provide you enough time to stop to get food at a cafe or restaurant? If so, at which stop on the tour do they give you this time? If they do not provide you time to get something to eat then how would you go about bringing snacks on the bus? I can’t imagine a full day with no opportunity for food/beverage. Thank you in advance! Any amount of info helps!

We didn’t do the VIP option so we brought our own snacks on the bus. There’s not enough time for food at Linderhof, you can stop for a snack at Oberammergau, and then at Neuschwanstein you can get lunch before going up the castle (I highly suggest using the tram/bus to get up to the castle to maximize your time). I was hungry on the way back to Munich so be sure to always have snacks available if needed.

We booked Classic tour and had a 30+ people on the bus. During castle walk you will be provided audio device to hear the guide and while being in palace the guide will communicate all.

The fees for Neuschwanstein castle for adults is €15 and for Linderhof Palace is €10 euros.
So why have you mentioned that ticket price will be €33 euros? It seems like you are charging €7 extra. Please explain.

Is there enough time on this tour to do Marienbruke (look at the view), a tour of Neuschwanstein castle, and a tour of Hohenschwangau castle?

Is the 1 hour allotted at Linderhof enough to do a guided tour inside and spend some time outside on the palace grounds?
Written 18 January 2023
1 hour was enough time. The inside of Linderhof is relatively small and the guided tour was about 25 minutes, giving you 35 min to explore the grounds. Ideally I think 1.5 hours would be perfect, but 1 hour was doable.

Hello! I am planning a trip with my family of four. My children will be 4 years and 20 months at the time of travel. Does my "infant" (20 month old) need her own ticket, or is she free because she will have to sit in our laps? Thank you!

Sorry I do not know. I would contact the company organizing the tour as well.

This tour says that the tickets for the castle are 33 Euro, but on the Neuschwanstein website it says that they are 17 Euro. Is the tour charging extra for the entrance fee or is the price listed incorrect?
Written 30 August 2022
We paid 30 Euro to the tour company, but this was for two castles we visited. The ticket for the Lindrhof castle was 9 Euro.
Still less than 30 Euro all together...

We’re a family of 4 visiting Munich in December. 1) Is this a good tour to take in December (is cold weather a factor?). 2) Trip description says it’s a 10 1/2 hr tour- my question is “are we gonna be back in our hotel in Munich by 6:00pm?
Written 25 August 2022
1. December in Munich is very cold. But as long as you layer up, you'll be able to manage.
2. From Munich, our tour started at 6am, then it was a 2 hour bus ride to Linderhof Castle, another 45 hour bus ride to Oberammergau Village, then about another 2 hour bus ride to Neuschwanstein. We were back before 7pm in Munich.
