- adambK3169TG0 contributionsDachau Memorial (or similar) is a don’t miss experience for humanity - great tour guideIn short this was one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had in my life. While my grandfathers shared some of the family service history with me and learnings from WW2 about what it means to be a man and to be part of “never again” I finally made it here at 45 years old to see real history for myself. While I always believed the shared learnings it is different to really see it in person. While our tour guide may not understand as much about why people may “want” historical souvenirs (I don’t agree with theft or elevating evil things) I totally understand why people want to see or maybe hold history - especially in a world where history can be destroyed. I brought my family and I’m glad my son especially could see this for himself much younger. I can’t say enough good things about our tour guide - he was personable, he had a very good way of talking with the diverse group of attendees, and he had the utmost respect for the memorial site and importance of it. I don’t want to spoil the experience for others but I would suggest asking for this tour guide by name - Jake Goldman. In this world we are just many people and it takes good people speaking up and I’m glad he is doing his part to share with others how we can be better. Never again.Written 21 March 2025

- Seay19830 contributionsFascinating experienceWent with a friend to Munich for 4 days to visit 2nd world war sites. We both agreed that the Third Reich walking tour was our favourite out of the tours we did. It was fascinating to be at locations which we had read about, been told about by grandparents, and seen on TV documentaries. CURT was our guide for the walk and we score him 10 out of 10. He was very knowledgeable and explained things easily. He was a very likeable character and kept the day fun/interesting, even if we did laugh at his American accent. (Sorry Curt but we did). We would have liked to have taken him for a pint after the walk to listen to more war stories.Written 20 March 2025

The Third Reich tour is a great way to immerse yourself in what Munich once was. Sam did a great job emphasizing what areas were and how what they are today contrasts that. I highly suggest this tour!Written 19 March 2025

The day trip to the Neuschwanstein Castle Tour was a truly magical experience! The tour guides Nic and Paul from Radius Tours were very engaging and entertained us along the way, as well as describing the history of Ludwig and pointing out some of the sights during the bus journey.
We were lucky with the weather and the scenery through Bavaria along the way was nothing short of stunning.
There were approximately 20 other people who joined the day tour from all parts of the world. Everyone was very enthusiastic and it was a very upbeat day.
The food selection was fairly decent at the kiosk below - we had time to grab an early lunch beforehand and it is definitely worth doing the walk all the way up the hill to the castle, where Paul illustrated the story of Ludwig. I really got into the feel of it that way.
The Neuschwanstein Castle Tour itself is relatively short and costs €20 extra but I enjoyed the tour guide we had and the architecture inside. I would advise to make the most of the scenery as well, in the time available, including the Hohenschwangau Castle, and the Marienbrucke bridge, where picturesque photos can be taken.
We had about 5 hours and a quarter altogether, and the journey either way is just under 2 hours. Perhaps 30 mins longer there would have been good.
I would highly recommend the Neuschwanstein Castle Tour especially if you are visiting Munich - it is a unique experience!

First of all, I'd like to thank Radius tours.
I made a mistake and went to the office a day early. However, thanks to the staff, I was able to participate in the tour.
I don't know how to make a reservation to enter the castle.
I looked it up and it seems that there are many transfers to get to the castle. I think that a tour is the best way to avoid Germany's complicated train system or to travel without worry. The German train system is really complicated if you're not used to it. When I was on the tour, there were a lot of people, so it was very easy to travel by bus.
They are also very warm and enthusiastic. I was the only Japanese person on the tour, but they listened to my poor English with great enthusiasm.
They give funny explanations on the bus and explain important things slowly.
The tour leaders, Patrick and Nic, are the best!
I'm grateful that they manage the timing of entering the castle, souvenir time, and toilet timing. After all, there are many temptations such as snack shops and beautiful scenery on the way to the castle.
Most of the tour participants were very warm. I happened to become friends with an Australian and an American who were participating alone.
I'm really glad I was able to speak openly.
When I went, it was mid-April, but it was still cold, below 1 degree, and there was a lot of snow. I recommend wearing warm clothes that you can take off if it gets too hot. Wear comfortable shoes. Everyone else was wearing knitted hats, thick down jackets, and coats.
The castle in the snow was so fantastical and beautiful that it took my breath away. (Unfortunately, the Marienbrücke, a great spot for views, was closed off by the snow.)
The tour guide inside the castle was a castle staff member, but unlike the tour guides, he spoke at a natural speed, making it a little difficult to hear, but the interior of the castle is just as fantastical as the exterior, so it's worth seeing. Be sure to take a picture of your heart (photography is prohibited inside).

Thomas our tour guide was very knowledgeable about folklore and had a lot of useful advice. He prepared us for the 45 minute hike on a wet but paved road because the castle shut down their shuttle in the snow/rain. He is genuinely interested in the culture and how it affected the history of the people giving us context to each room and how it was decorated. Reminded me of an insightful Oxford history professor I once toured with. Definitely recommend going with Thomas because the state run tour guides at the castle give you a one minute talk and one minute glance at the rooms and push you into the next room. The average person would need at least 3-5 minutes per room to just look at the paintings and take pictures. You wouldn’t understand the stories being told in the paintings and murals without Thomas.

The tour is only to take you to the castle and share the stories behind the paintings inside.
The castle entrance fee, which includes a tour guide hired by the castle management, is already included.
This tour simply gets you there and tells you the stories about the paintings.
I was shocked when we arrived and were asked to pay an additional 3 euros for internal transportation to reach the castle.
It was mentioned that we needed to pay 20 euros for the entrance fee, but it didn’t mention any additional transportation costs.
I wouldn’t recommend paying 78 euros for this tour when you can do it on your own.
Our tour guide, Thomas, was a nice person, but I felt he was promoting certain items and restaurants under the guise of suggestions.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. Yes, of course you can take a tour like this by yourself, but having a guide with you just makes it that much smoother. The additional payments in the area are optional, nobody forces you to pay an extra three euros to use a bus up to the castle. You can always opt to walk up.

If you looking to venture out of Munich city this tour will give you a great view of Bavaria. You’ll head to the castle that inspired Disneys Cinderella Castle. You’ll start off in a coach bus transportation and then head to the castle. A trip inside will take you to a beautiful world. The actual tour inside the castle is not included but they will buy you the ticket for 20€. The guided tour is quick and timed. You’ll be in the actual castle for 30 min and go through the different rooms including a fake cave! You’ll have time beforehand to view the castle grounds and time after to head to a bridge with a breathtaking but death defying view. The is a fast paced tour and somewhat demanding, the walk up to the castle is long and steep although you will have the option of doing the horse carriage ride up most of the way. But there is a lot of walking and a lot of steps inside the castle. The walk down is also strenuous and I would recommend good shoes. The weather also drastically changes, we went from downpours to sunshine within an hour but there are souvenir shops below where you can buy rain gear if needed. Again, this is a quick paced and demanding tour but you have options to take on your own with meet up spots. Our tour guide Thomas is very knowledgeable and looks out for the group to ensure everyone is comfortable.

Our tour was with Lana and Jeremy who were both wonderful tour guides with lots of information, a good sense of humor, and clear directions. We went on a comfortable bus and had plenty of time to explore the town below Neuschwanstein Castle and get a quick bite before riding the shuttle up to the castle for views from the bridge and several different viewpoints in addition to the castle interior tour run by the castle itself. Jeremy gave us great tips on additional spots to view, and see inside the castle after the formal interior tour ended. It was all very smooth with his information. Be aware, the cost for radius tour does not include the additional 20 euros for the castle interior tour (well worth it), nor the 3.5 euros for the shuttle bus up to the castle (also worth the cost).
We typically explore places on our own, but for this destination we thought the Radius Tour offering was well worth the money.

The assembly point Radius Tour company is near Hauptbahnhof München, which was easy to find. We went to the Neuschweinstein Castle by coach which was clean and the driver drove safely. The ride was about one and a half hour each way and we had one toilet stop each time. The route was scenic. Our tour guides Jeremy and Lana were friendly and informative. They gave us background information on the castle and Bavarian history, as well as advised us where to take photos, where to eat, buy souvenirs and find a toilet. All visitors to the inside of the castle have to join a guided tour organised by the castle, which lasted about half an hour as the castle is not big. We had time to see the outside of Hohenschwangau Castle too but didn't have much time walking around the town, which was fine as there aren't many shops. Although joining a tour may be more expensive than going by ourselves, I'd much prefer the comfort of travelling with a coach especially when I was with a child. I totally recommend this tour.

Highly recommend this tour!! It’s a long day but Mark and Stevo gave us all the fun facts surrounding the castle and royal family on the bus ride in a playful and informative manner - which then complimented the rather dry cliff-note version of the castle history that you get when on the formal castle tour. You have to pay extra for the castle tour but it’s well worth the extra €20 per person to go inside. Such a fascinating and tragic story.

My husband and i attended this trip during Aug 2024. It was really well organised and our tour guides Werner & Iris were lovely. They were super knowledgeable and so passionate about the history behind landmarks. Unfortunately the weather was awful on the day we went but we were still able to visit all the lookout points (albeit with very little view). The bus journey was super comfortable and there are soft drinks / water / beer available to purchase as well. My only suggestion would be to include a loo-break on the route back as there was one driving towards Neuschwanstein. Note the trip does not include entry to the castle but this can be purchased at the tour office when checking in (€20) (would recommend as beautiful).

Michelle is a great tour guide and explained the history of Neuschwanstein and of Ludwig II of Bavaria very well. The entire tour was by public transport and I admire Michelle's ability to keep the group together. The official guide inside the castle was less impressive to be polite, but the murals and sculptures inside are still worthwhile for the extra 20 euro entrance fee.

I am extremely interested in doing this tour with my family in August. I was wondering where we buy the entrance fees for the castles. Can we buy those in advance or do you purchase them the day of when you arrive?
Written 9 February 2024
You do not buy the tickets in advance. When you arrive at the tour office to begin the day you will purchase the tickets. The tickets are timed entry slots, so you must have the same time as your group and your guide.

The tour meeting point is in Munich, and it is about a two hour train/bus ride there and back. So the tour includes transportation. We also got lunch at the cute little town beneath the hill of the castle.

Would it be possible to join the tour at site, not from Munchen? OK to give up train/coach fee......
