About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- EdwardL6100 contributionsFirst class Provence/Chateauneuf du Pape wine experienceArranged our tour from the states a few months in advance. Romain came quite a way to pick us up. The man knows his wines and took us to some nice Domaines, including one that wasn't open to the public because of his relationships there. Everything worked out well and they dropped us back at our house outside of Le Baux de Provence. Very pleased!Written 14 October 2024
- Famtime1230 contributionsAbsolutely perfect day in the vinesThis is an absolute must for anybody wanting to discover the region’s wine. Romain Gouvernet is an excellent and passionate guide. Our day trip included a wonderful lunch with a beautiful view booked by him as well. All in all a wonderful day well spent and completely recommendable!Written 1 September 2021
- taramrochford0 contributionsFantastic wine education and tasting! My husband I did the half day wine tasting and thought it was perfect! We arrived just after lunch and learned a little bit about the Chateauneauf de Pape vineyards and what makes it so unique, then we headed to several wineries where we learned about the winery, the grapes, the wine, and we were able to taste as well. Romain is very knowledgable and made the experience really fun!Written 11 September 2019
- TCMLA0 contributionsReview of Romain! My mom and I were unable to complete our tour with Romain due to unfortunate circumstances. Romain handled the situation with kindness and grace. We can't wait to return and do a wine tour with Romain!Written 17 August 2019
- AleksiG100 contributionsIconic wines and great guideRomain is funny and energetic. If u like to have heated conversations of wines, winemaking and of course drinking - he is the perfect choice. Passion for exceptional fine wines - yes please. I liked the straight forward and fast delivery. It's actually more relaxed when u don't have to be afraid that u would do some kind of mistake. With Romain u feel that u can be urself, he's very easy going. Great English too!Written 16 July 2019
- AbingdonManor0 contributionsExcellentRomain was an terrific guide. Wealth of information on the region, wines and vineyards. Came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. He was full but had a last minute afternoon opening and came back to Avignon to pick us up while others were having lunch. Was a very special part of our visit to the area.Written 25 June 2019
- FrequentFlier6144420 contributionsAwesome and "Formidable"Romain is an informative and fun tour guide. We learned a great deal about the local wines, and we had a lot of fun on the tour.Written 24 June 2019
- TomH10 contributionsA great adventure in Chateauneuf-du-PapéThis was a great tour. Romain was an excellent guide and took us to two great wineries and threw in a bonus stop at a winery that also made chocolates. He helped us order wine at one of the wineries (Chateau la Nerthe) and ten did some trouble-shooting for me after I returned home and grew impatient for the delivery of the wine. I will definitely use him next time I visit Provence and will recommend him to friendsWritten 24 June 2019
- LoveTravel10011120 contributionsA Tour of One of the Most Famous Wine Regions in the World! We discovered Romaine and his wine tours in Rick Steve's book on Provence. We are so glad we did. I'm an avid wine enthusiast and my wife is just the opposite. However, we BOTH enjoyed this tour...we spent 16 days in France (8 in Provence and 8 in Paris) and this was one of the highlights of our trip. Romaine is clearly and expert, but has such an enjoyable, personable manner that makes -- regardless of your knowledge -- each person feel respected. He has a great wine club (but does not push it on you at all). I'm all in!Written 24 June 2019
- CydTravels20 contributionsExcellent wine guide! My husband and I did a group tour of CNP as well as a private tour of other areas. Both days were outstanding. Romain is very knowledgeable and he curated only the best wines of each area. He was fun, accommodating of requests and patient with our many questions. He even referred us to an excellent restaurant where we could get a bucket list wine and facilitated tastings at additional Chateaus in other areas we planned to travel. If you want to learn more about wine, taste great wine and have a lovely days outing, you could do no better than Romain! Merci, Romain.Written 22 May 2019
- L4018BEnicolac0 contributionsAmazing wine tour!!!I joined the CDP wine tour by Romaine in June 2018 with husband, it was the best decision of our Provence trip! Romaine was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine, what impressed us was his flexibility! We were stuck in traffic on our way to the meeting point and the Uber driver could not speak English, so we desperately called Romaine, who kindly spoke to the Uber driver and arranged picking us up midway. Thank you so much Romaine! I hope to order wine from you soon.Written 4 March 2019
- timothy_j_patten0 contributionsRomain is fantastic!Top notch experience. Romain strikes the perfect balance between fun/friendly and professional/educational. His English is perfect, and he’s quite adept at explaining concepts in an easy to understand manner. Agree with other reviewers that he’s extremely patient and accommodating - will answer any and all questions you have. He even pulled over so we could take pictures of sheep in the vineyard, and later dropped us off in the town center for lunch after the tour. Absolutely would recommend to friends, family, or colleagues. Thank you Romain for a great day!Written 2 February 2019
- chiggers420 contributionsEntertaining personal tour from a wine insider! We visited Southern Rhone during the harvest, not knowing that many vineyards (particularly the big names) do not allow visits during this season. It is a different story if you are with Romain! Due to his personal relationships with local vineyards, we were able to tour places that had previously told us were closed! Romain is very personable and knowledgable about wine and the CDP region. The multiple tastings were quite generous - we got to do a vertical tasting at La Nerthe, and our tasting at Pierre Usseglio included a couple of wines that had recently been rated 100 points. The tour group was wonderfully small - Romain drove us in his car (this is not your slow giant bus tour) - and by the end we had 5 new friends. Wine sales are not pushed, but they are available, and through his partnerships, Romain is able to ship wine very affordably to all 50 states in the U.S. Highly recommended - I will definitely look him up again the next time I am in the region.Written 28 November 2018
- brianfl00d0 contributionsChateauneuf du Pape wine tourI had reserved a spot with Romain weeks in advance but it was mid week and beginning of slow season so no one else signed up. Yet he did not let me down and took me anyway. Romain is a very engaging personality and because he is from this magical part of the world he has a passion for what he does that makes it a pleasure to listen and learn from him. We had access to things that other more commercial groups may not see. As I said he grew up here, he knows most of the proprietors or winemakers personally and they welcome him in. Romain provides other wine related services as well. For me this couldn't have worked out better. Thank you Romain!Written 28 October 2018
- Dixie H0 contributionsFabulous and Insider ExperienceWe had a wonderful visit with Romain this past weekend. He is knowledgeable, personable, fun, connected and relaxed. We were a group of two wine lovers and two people in the industry and he made it entertaining for everyone. We learned a lot, met some interesting wine personalities and gained some new favorite wines. Romain was inclusive of our four year-old son, too, which we really appreciated.Written 8 October 2018

Traveling the world and going on wine tours is a passion of ours. I spend many hours finding the right tour for size, tour guide, places to visit, and cost. Provence and Wine tour and without exception, Romain the tour guide, was the tour to be on. We happen to have 4 on the tour (also, our 2 friends on the trip with us from the US) made an ideal size for maximum comfort and participation. Romain by far makes the experience from booking to pickup to drop off. During the vetting process, I send Romain some emails about what to expect, some specific wineries to visit, and little background of the group. He was very responsive with details and the wineries he could accommodate (he has a portfolio of relationships that he tailors the tour for you). We wanted a wine tour and not other stops that some have like chocolates, etc.
We visited 3 wineries in CdP and finished at a cave in an old village for some additional tasting (there is more to the story, but I’m not going to spoil the nice surprise). Lunch was incredible and another wonderful part for the day. I am a certified sommelier, but spending the day with Romain who is a higher WSET level 3 made the education in France wines and all the other details about it, truly an experience to remember.
We were on a wine tour a few days before in Lyon and buying and shipping good wine is not as friendly as we enjoy in the US. Romain has this part figured out too. He has a license to buy and ship wine and has established his own logistics system. This is a huge benefit for buying smaller amounts from different wineries that he collates into shipments that are much cheaper than the wineries do using MBE. We bought more wine because of this service he can provide.
Overall, the tour was everything we were hoping for. Special thanks to Romain for making it the memorable experience.

This was hands down the best thing I’ve ever booked. My friend and I were doing a road trip around France for the Olympics and serendipitously were passing through Châteauneuf-du-Pape so thought it was a great time to look for a tour. This one came highly recommended online so we booked it and we were not disappointed! Marlène was our guide and she was fantastic; she was so knowledgeable about everything and made the day great fun. I don’t feel anything I write can truly do this trip justice! So please do yourself a favour and just book it - and ask for Marlène!

We may not have chosen the right time of year to visit the vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape but we chose the best guide to give us a wonderful day even if the sun was not there. YOU. Romain is an excellent communicator in English and French who knows the region like no other because he grew up and still lives in the region. So, Romain personally knows several families who have been involved in wine production for generations. Romain introduced us to three different properties that produce exceptional wines and taught us several facts about wine production in this magnificent region. For dinner, Romain reserved a table for us at another vineyard where we really enjoyed the meal. Thank you Romain for your guided tour!!

My wife and I had a superb full day private tour with Romain. He is a skilled Level 4 (highest you can achieve) sommelier, and absolutely knows his stuff (he’s also a pleasure to spend time with). He lives in the Chateauneuf du Pape area, knows the region, and skillfully taught us things about both the wines and nuances of wine tasting. We ended the day, after visiting 3 wineries and having a beautiful lunch overlooking the valley, at his local wine shop. He poured us a few of his favorite wines, and then helped us put together a carefully thought out group of wines to purchase. There was ZERO pressure to buy wines, and the wine we did buy was a great value. You cannot go wrong spending the day with Romain!

My wife and I spent two weeks traveling in the South of France and this was the highlight of our trip. I can't say enough about Romain's kindness, knowledge, and hospitality. My wife and I are wine enthusiasts, but we are no experts. We booked a private tour for just the two of us and requested the "Private Premium Full Day Wine Tour: Exclusive Châteaux Tour", which is listed on Romain's Provence & Wine website. We toured and tasted wines at three different châteaus over the course of the day, had lunch with a wine pairing at a fourth châteaux, and ended the day at Romain's cave/shop in the middle of Châteauneuf du Pape where we tasted wines from the region that we didn't get to visit. We took photos of all the wines we liked during the day, and mixed and matched two cases to be sent home. This was a very convenient way for us to remember and enjoy these wines when we got home.
In every way, Romain gave us an unforgettable experience we would never have had access to on our own.

Coming to this part of the world was largely down to the wines we enjoy the most, so we we had to visit some wineries. Doing this tour is the best way to achieve that as you visit a few wonderful wineries, tasting multiple and varying flavour wines in each, all while getting excellent information from qualified sommelier Romain. Planted in the middle of this is a lunch reservation at a beautiful castle location with stunning view, top-level food at prices probably more in value than anywhere else we went in the area! We were lucky to have a small group, just us and another couple. We are complete beginners, while our companions had done some wine qualifications themselves, so Romain did brilliantly to keep it highly inclusive and entertaining of both requirements. Fully recommend doing this tour.

Our Chateauneuf du Pape tour with Romain was as enjoyable and informative as we possibly could have hoped. Romain’s expertise, passion, personality, and rapport with the local producers proved to be a terrific combination. We couldn’t recommend him more highly if you want a memorable guided tour of the southern Rhone. Five stars!

Our tour guide Romain speak fluent English and is very attentive to everyone. He shares personal experiences, not only on wine itself but also on WSET test, life and more. Most importantly he organizes entries to different wineries very smoothly, no waiting in line or on-site wrangling whatsover. We were taken to a winery, visited the cellar, and were offered great samples. Simple and pleasant. Recommend to wine lovers of different levels.

My boyfriend and I only had one full day to spend in Avignon and decided to book the private Chateauneuf de Pape wine tour directly through Romain. We went into the tour with minimal prior knowledge of the region, and Romain not only helped give us a better understanding of the wine making process but has left us with a desire to learn even more. We loved visiting the intimate tastings and the lunch reservation at the castle was a lovely touch. The whole experience felt very authentic and a highlight of our Provence road trip - we cannot recommend this tour with Romain enough!

It is obvious that Romain is passionate about wine. He is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions. He started the tour by asking us to do a brief introduction of ourselves. He gets to know his audience first and I think he adjusts his narrative based on where they are from. At the first stop he gave an overview of the wine making process. And he then get into more details about wine in the Chateaueuf-du-Pape region. At each winery, he took the time to describe each wine we were tasting and educated us to note for the differences. It was very informative and interesting. He also picked a nice restaurant for us to stop for lunch. Both food and service were very good. Overall it was a very good experience for us. Whether you are a novice or an experienced wine drinker, I think you will learn a lot from Romain on this tour.

The name is "Provence and wine". Its a small company run by a very knowledgeable and amiable chap called Romain.

Hi, we’re wondering if we could take our 9 month year old with us on the tour? We’ll have a car seat. And will be coming from St Rémy, will there be a place to park our car in Avignon if that’s the starting place?
Written 14 June 2019
Hi, there is plenty of parking in Avignon. There is a very large and discreet underground car park right where we met Romain (our guide). To be honest I don't think that the tour is particularly suitable for children. It's a long day with no provision for children, would recommend leaving the little one at home and enjoying the day as a couple.
