Recently visited Paris for a city break with my partner and stupidly booked a hotel quite far from the tourist spots so whilst enduring on the long walk we came across the “Batobus” ticket hut located on the River Seine.

You can buy different passes, a one day pass and a two day pass. I purchased the one day pass which for two people was approximately £30. The good thing about this pass was that no matter when you bought it the ticket was valid for 24 hours, so I bought mine at 15:30 and it was valid until 15:30 the next day.

The average wait time for a boat was approximately 20-30 minutes and there were always more than enough seats on the boat. The staff were friendly and helpful and always told you where the next stop was coming to and what sights you could see. You simply hop off and when done with looking at that particular sight you can then return to the dock and when the boat arrives hop back on and continue along the river to the next stop.

The whole journey takes approximately 1 hour with around 8 different stops at the main sights such as the louve or the Eiffel Tower and stops in places which are perfectly situated without the long walk.

Overall my experience of the Batobus was brilliant; it was cheap, comfortable and brilliant with no issues.

This is a hop on hop off boat service which operates like a bus. It does a round trip between 9 important tourist destinations along the river Seine, like Eiffel, Notre Dame, Louvre etc. With a little planning, the visit to the tourist spots can easily be managed by hopping on and off these boats.
Our plan was more lazy, just cruising on the river on a free day, which was also our last day in Paris, with planned sightseeings done. This was very convenient as the ticket promises unlimited rides. So we took the boat at Notre Dame where it was less crowded and which was close to our hotel, grabbed window seats and lazily wound along the river, looking at the magnificent buildings on both banks and the two islands. After almost crossing one round trip, we got down at St Germain des pres, gulped down some quick drinks, and did another full round trip.
Online booking is cheaper, we did that. We took a 24 hours pass. 48 hours pass is also available, with unlimited boatride for that period. The guiding in the boat was more like announcements. So it was limited but competent, as they were multi lingual, using French, Spanish and English languages.
Two disadvantages... The boats have glass dome windows, with only opening in the top part. Which makes the boats a bit too hot in summer. Secondly, the last round trip from Eiffel starts at 7 pm, which is not when the day ends in Paris summers.

Taking the boat was a fascinating way to travel around the river Seine. We joined the boat at the Eiffel Tower stop and hopped off at the Hôtel de Ville stop. I recommend taking the Seine River Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Cruise because you can see many of Paris’ iconic monuments while travel around the city. It is not the fastest way to travel around Paris.

Batobus is disappointing in winter, as the short operating day (late morning start, early evening finish) and the few boats running (every 30 mins instead of every 15 mins)
mean there's too little time / connections to explore sights at all the stops.

I understand that lower tourist numbers in winter mean that batobus cuts the service to reduce their costs (but don't cut the ticket prices they charge!)
But it makes a very poor experience for customers.

There is an EASY solution, which will cost batobus little or NOTHING*.
In winter, instead of the standard ticket lasting ONE day, make it last TWO days for the same price. That way customers can get to see what they would have done in one day during the summer schedule.

* People disappointed at the short winter day they've had will NOT buy a second day on batobus, so batobus isn't losing any money.

Having shelled out €75 online (as recommended by BATOBUS) I was shocked at the appallingly rude and negative behaviour of the female member of staff, whose equipment could not read my wife's Covid pass nor would she acknowledge my children's negative Covid tests. We were refused admission to the boat and when I asked for a refund, was bluntly told to "go and get a test". An extraordinary way to treat (handsomely) paying customers....suggest you use one of the many other Seine boat services and don't waste your money on these idiots.

First day in morning, was great (Friday morning). Easy on and easy off. Boats arrived often and plenty of room to fit everyone waiting on the boat. 2nd day on Saturday evening it was horrible. We waited in line starting at 6pm next to Louvre while multiple boats came by with no room. The boats seems barely full.

At best boats arrived maybe every couple 20-30 minutes. We finally just had to leave and walk since the boat cruises where ending and the line was still crazy long with only 10-20 people allowed on each boat. What a rip off! We were in Paris about 5 years ago and it was awesome. It seems service has totally declined since COVID.

I would recommend the boats during the weekdays, but stay away on weekends. Too busy and too few boats to service the number of tickets sold. What a rip off!

The guy who is supposed to welcome us on the boat and check tickets was awfully rude and unfriendly. The pdf ticket hadn’t finished to download on my phone so he left us on the quai with 2 small children to wait for 20 more minutes. Unacceptable. He could have taken us on board and seen our ticket fully downloaded a minute afterwards.

A EVITER !
Scandaleux

Fantastic value for money and very easy to use. The Batobus is not a cruise as such, it is more a ferry bus that will take you up and down the river, stopping at nine places, with excellent views of Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Lourve, etc. It stops within easy walking distance of these places. The tickets are easy to use and purchase and good value for either 24 hours or 48 hours. However, the boat doesn't run in the evening or night time, so 24 hours is not actually 24 hours of use (perhaps it runs later during the summer). I also think that the boats could have been a bit more regular, though again, I think that I have read that they come more often during the summer.
Covid measures seemed good, with everybody having to show passes and wear masks. All the staff we encountered were welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Definitely a very affordable alternative to a more traditional 'cruise', and I would use the service if in Paris again.

Perfect way to travel without having to use the really busy roads.
Excellent value for money.

Only gripe was the fact that it felt like you were baking in a greenhouse. It was a glorious day when we travelled with blue skies and sun shining. Of course, most folk were trying to get to the back of the boat for fresh air so left very little room.
I understand that they could open the top of the roof but they chose not too which is semi-understandable in 14 degree heat.

Batobus, as it is known in Paris, is one of my favourite ways of moving around the city via the Seine. It’s emphasis is on practicality. There about 10 stops along the river, each near some interesting landmark or area. Paris is a great city to walk around in but can become exhausting. Which is why I love the “boat bus”. It’s the best way to take time out from place to another and just relax! The cost is also a factor. The first 24 hours costs €17 , but 48 hours is only €19. Compare that to normal taxi fees...some difference.
