About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Happycamperchele130 contributionsGreat Day Trip from ParisAlex was very knowledgeable. She gave us a ton of information about the valley and the castles that we saw. The tour was both interesting and fun. It was a treat to have lunch provided by a real countess in a real castle. We had a great time with the other couple that joined the tour:)Written 17 March 2025

- dongsupro0 contributionsLoire valley day tourWhat a great tour this was! Alex was a wonderful and knowledgable guide and she went out of her way to make everyone comfortable and even served lunch!Written 9 November 2024
- JupiterBlue0 contributionsNot Much to Not Like!Even though the weather during October wasn't the best - cold and cloudy - my husband and I very much enjoyed this in-depth tour of two chateaux. Alex, our wonderful young lady guide and driver, picked us up in Tours and we were joined by two other super nice couples. Comfortable van to travel in with Alex who shared her vast knowledge of the region, keeping us informed and entertained along the way. Words of warning for older folks - we are an older couple who keep in shape, but we ended up exhausted after this day. There is quite a bit of walking and climbing stairs in and around these old historical estates. The chateaux are HUGE! Very beautiful, extremely picturesque and really big with lots of great photos ops! In between visiting the two chateaux, this trip also included Alex facilitating a simple lunch at another private chateau. Lunch was prepared by the owner who is a countess - I thought that was really special! Our meal consisted of pork rillettes, cheese board with four different kinds of fromage, bread, a simple green salad, and quiche Lorraine. Everything was delicious, but - only constructive criticism here - the quiche Lorraine was served lukewarm, almost cold, and would have been so much better if it had been kept hot. Especially since the weather was cold. We were served very good wine and water with our meal. Overall, we would highly recommend this efficiently organized and expertly guided fun trip! Thanks again to Alex!Written 18 October 2024

- EatRunTravel170 contributionsGreat tour even on a rainy day!We lucked out and had our amazing guide from the previous day, Marion, lead us on this tour as well. We loved her personality as well as her scholastic and personal knowledge of the area. It was a rather rainy day so we didn’t appreciate the gardens as much as we would have on a sunny day, but the castles were still wonderful to visit. Our finally winery stop planned tour was altered slightly because of the rain, but it meant we had more time inside talking with the owner which we greatly enjoyed.Written 14 October 2024
- EatRunTravel170 contributionsFun and informative tour! This was a fantastic tour! Our guide, Marion, grew up in the Loire so not only did she have excellent scholarly knowledge of the area, but she shared personal insight as a native. Chenonceu and Chambord are some of the most famous castles in the region, and having the guided tour made it easier to navigate the crowds while learning more than I had at past visits. The meal at the private chateau was delicious and a great way to engage with Marion as well as our fellow tour mates. Highly recommend!!Written 14 October 2024

Camille, our tour guide, was so fantastic. She was knowledgeable and fun, and had so many fun stories to tell about the families behind the castles. Both Chenonceau and Chambord castles were spectacular. Dimitri our private guide was terrific. He made sure to provide enough information without overloading us with dates and names etc. Further, he took the time to answer all of our questions, and make sure we had some time to explore on our own. Totally recommend this excursion if you are looking for a hassle free day of sightseeing.

Our visits to Chambord and Chenonceau were enhanced by beautiful sunny weather and a very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful guide. We had a nice lunch at Chambord and had plenty of time to explore in and around the Chateaux. The van that took us to the sites and back to Tours was very comfortable. All in all, we feel that this tour was good value for the money.

We did a tour of the chateaus in the Loire valley and it was amazing. Our guide Alex did agreat job of showing us the highlights and adding stories that probably aren't in a lot of history books. It made the tour more interesting and fun. I would recommend this tour and if you can get Alex all the better

I was traveling from Asia and planned my trip, purchased my train tickets from Paris and confirmed one night hotel stay in Tours (all non refundable) based on the confirmation of this tour to Chambord and Chenonceau.
I was informed on a Friday that the tour I booked on Wednesday, will not take place because they "anticipated" the guide will be sick. The operator told me to contact the tourism office to sort it out other options myself and to no surprise, the they told me it was low season (Feb) and there were NO tours available. I believe another American tourist also book the same for Friday (same week) and they also got cancelled last minute.
A la Francaise the tour operator takes no responsibility for cancelling their tours. Clearly February is a low season, and it is obvious there were not enough people so the tour for a few does not scale which I believe is the real reason for the cancellation! It is fine if that was the case but DON'T promote or indicate tours of such is available online for Feb! All the other operators simply indicates nothing is available until later months!
Promoting and selling tours that is unlikely to take place, their complete lack of accountability/responsibility is simply unacceptable. The stress and inconvenience they have caused! On that note, I leave you to judge the integrity of A La Francaise and the type of operator they are!

Hello Barbara,
We're sorry to read your message, we're doing our best to find a replacement for our sick guide, but this time we weren't successful. We have therefore had to cancel the tour and refund all participants.
We're in low season, so it's much more difficult to find a guide in case of absence. In high season, we have a team of 6 guides, which is much easier.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, as we would have loved to show you our beautiful region. If you come back to the area, we would be delighted to offer you an exceptional discount to prove our good faith.
Best regards,
A la Française

Marion was excellent! She was on time, knowledgeable, funny and kind. I so enjoyed how she tied the history of the chateaus (and how they were built) to the Kings, Queens and mistresses … and then intertwined the history of Chenonceau to that of Chambord. She gave great recommendations for food and knew the surprises and secrets along the way.

We really enjoyed the day with Dimitri. The guided portion of the day was well balanced with the free portion. His stories about the kings and queens were memorable especially the “crispy gossip” as he called it. He took fabulous photos of each couple in the group at each chateau which was an added bonus. He is the perfect guide… knowledge, personable and funny. Very fun day. Very convenient to get this tour from the tourism office in Tours. Highly recommended!

It was overall a lovely but rushed day. This is not really the fault of the tour company per se; but honestly, due to the drive time involved in getting to and back from the Chateaus, the actual time left to spend at the Chateaus felt very rushed. This is definitely more of an "introduction" type of experience due to the limited time. We did not get to see all the gardnes on the properties as had to rush to catch the van back. For those with limited time and no car, it's a great way to get a taste of the Chateaus. If you really want to explore and enjoy the gardens in a more in-depth, leisurely fashion, I can see why doing it on your own is probably the way to go.

This tour began our visit to the Loire Valley in good stead. Our guide Alex, promptly picked us up at our hotel in Tours. Her expertise with our English language made for an enjoyable experience. She shared a vast knowledge of the history of the royals and how they lived in these chateaux. We especially liked the quirky shared tidbits. You will not go wrong with your request for her guidance.

We loved this tour! The van was very comfortable and we needed up being the only ones on the tour that day so it ended up being a private tour by chance. Marion was a wonderful guide! We learned so much and were shown amazing views of each Chateau and had enough free time to wander around on our own. Would absolutely recommend!!

I know it can be exhausting walking everyday and doing tours but if there was one tour in France that we felt was completely worth while this was the one. A must do! Perfectly guided by Agathe who spoke in both languages as she could add to our understanding helping us to improve pronounciation in french. A guide can make everything so worthwhile and that she did by demonstrating exceptional knowledge and value. This trip is perfect for those who want to really know what it was like to live in the 14th - 21st century since all 3 visits to theses Chateaus will reveal things you never conceived before from the early days of the French Revolution to the current times French people have to cope with maintaining their heritage. You might think that Chambord will be your favorite visit but you will be pleasantly surprised how you feel at the end.
