    Excellent tour
We had a great evening tour of Ancoats and the Northern Quarter with Ian. He planned a wide range of delicious foods to sample - taking into account our requirements on location and vegetarian food for one of our group. We learned lots about the history and architecture and how the city has developed over the years, and we loved the atmosphere of this vibrant district. We also had a great laugh and were more than satisfied with the quantities of food. Highlights were the curry, cauliflower tacos, black pudding scotch eggs, and sprouts. Nothing was left over! We enjoyed it so much we revisited several of the places Ian had pointed out on the tour, and would love to return soon for the daytime tour. Our age range was 22-60 and we all had a great time. Thank you!

    Canals to Canapes
Having done previous food tours, I found this one expensive but nonetheless was looking forward to it after reading positive reviews on Trip Advisor. However, we were left feeling hungry after the tour and had to buy dinner. It was only discovered following my complaint to the service, that we did not receive the curry as a main meal at the Lily's stop with no explanation from the tour guide on the day. Instead, we were given one samosa each. The day consisted of snacking; a small soup, slice of artisan bread, one samosa, a small cheese / meat board shared between 7 persons and one slice of pizza. Although there were no concerns regarding the quality of the snacks or the knowledge of the tour guide, we would say that £150 for 2 persons is unjustifiable. After speaking with the manager and only receiving a £20 refund for the missed curry at Lily's with no acknowledgment of the additional £26 for the meal afterwards, I feel that the Canal to Canapes experience is overpriced and the customer service was poor.

Fun, entertaining and informative tour of Manchester
Fun, entertaining and informative tour of Manchester. Danny was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and was happy to answer questions as we walked. The tour mainly focuses on Manchesters role in the Industrial Revolution, specifically the cotton mills. Plenty of food stops along the way including our favourite, the Indian cafe ‘this & that’ which we will certainly visit again. Was a little disappointed not to be given a taste of the Manchester made Boddingtons beer. Would highly recommend this tour.

A great day learning about hidden gems in Manchester
Me & my husband really enjoyed our day walking around Ancoats & the Northern quarter learning about some of its history & trying the different foods along the way. We had Rob as our tour guide, who was brilliant! He was really knowledgeable & chatty. The foods we experienced were bread, a charcuterie board, pizza, curry, ice cream & and shot of local rum. I would highly recommend the tour. It’s brilliantly put together & worth the money.

Excellent foodie tour with a touch of local history
Just done the Canals and Canapés tour. Plenty of interesting history together, delivered by Ian our guide for the day, with a visit to six eating places, each with their own local history. Very enjoyable 3 hours, wandering through New Islington and the Northern Quarter. Even though we are Mancunians, the tour was refreshingly new and gave us a different “take” on our local city. The food wasn’t pretentious, but very varied and good, & not a national chain in sight.

Danny really made this tour come alive, not only was the food excellent his knowledge and enthusiasm were infectious. I’ve lived in Manchester for over 20 years and thought I knew it well but learnt so much and went to new places that I will return too. Recommend to anyone!

We took part in Danny’s Manchester food tour this weekend and it was brilliant!

I originally booked my husband this tour as a Christmas gift and James from Bites Tours was great at responding to my emails and accommodating us when unforeseen circumstances meant that our tour had to be rearranged.

We were lucky enough to arrive in Manchester on a gloriously sunny day, perfect for a walk and lots of outdoor nibbles around the city.

Danny who led the tour was really friendly and informative, happily answering our questions and giving us an insight into parts of Manchester that we’d never really visited before. The history part of the tour was really interesting and Danny was great at engaging our two children age 11 and 7 who both had a great time learning lots on the way.

The food on the tour was amazing, we love all sorts of food and trying new places and this tour didn’t disappoint. From backstreet bakeries to side street street foods it was an amazing experience. All the food was great quality and had its own little back story. The kids tried new foods and came back as fans on some dishes that were new to them, which is always a bonus!

If you love history, food and finding new foodie gems in the city then this tour won’t disappoint. There’s definitely a few new places on our list to pop back to next time we are in Manchester.

Danny was kind enough to take our group on the food tour this weekend with a "Round the World" theme.

He was polite, knowledgeable, funny and held our attention throughout, even with protests throughout Manchester he still knew his routes, history and his specialist subject, the industrial revolution.

The food selection on the tour was amazing, from focaccia to gelatos with a particularly incredible cheese, meat and wine board at one point. Danny really went above and beyond to make sure our tour was the best it could be. Afterwards he even gave us a number of reccomendations which we went onwards to enjoy.

I'd highly recommend this food tour to any who are interested and want to see more of Manchester, thank you again Danny on behalf of myself and the group! And thanks for all the extra curricular reccomendations too!

The Canals to Canapes tour was brilliant - lots of hidden spots and I'm saying that as someone who is a lifelong Manchester resident! Great stories and was a good laugh as well. I was well catered for as a vegetarian. I'd definitely recommend the drinks package, some delicious treats. Highly recommend this tour, especially for visitors as this showcases the real Manchester, but however well you think you know the city you'll still be surprised and will learn something new!

Informative, entertains and good food. Danny the guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area he showed us, providing interesting information as we walked round the Ancoats area of Manchester-all the more interesting as a lot of the old mill/industrial buildings have been repurposed and the area is now a thriving community once again.
The food we sampled was uniformly excellent and diverse, arriving at regular intervals. All in all a great few hours and recommended to any local who wants to know about and see more of Manchester and to any tourist in the area.

We decided to book this tour the day before our trip, and we are so glad we did!
The tour is the perfect combination of touring the city of Manchester and a food tour.
We have learned so much about the city and the history behind it, and at just the right moments we woukf have new and delicious food to enjoy.
Our guide, James, was so lovely and knowledgeable.
He would answer any question we had, added stories of his own and showed us places and types of food that we would not try otherwise.
We also purchased the alcohol package (which can only be purchased on the official website) which complemented everything beautifuly.
A wonderful opening for a trip to Manchester.

It was a chilly November weekend, but my friends and I wrapped up warm and ventured out for some taste testing.

The tour is Ancoats/Northern Quarter based and consists of 6 ‘stops’ altogether. I won’t discuss any of the eateries or their dishes, but there was an agreeable variety. However, we did spend more than long enough in a maker’s market (I think that was the fault of one of the attendees who selfishly queued for a second coffee when the rest of the group was ready to move on).

There’s a mixture of indoor and outdoor stops: wear comfy shoes for walking as well as winter woollies if you’re also going at a cold time of year! Our tour guide was pleasant and sociable.

Two of us have done another Manchester tour which turned out to be slightly better value, and we left that one feeling fuller. Despite this, it was worthwhile to explore some new places (there was no overlap in the destinations).

Thanks for the feedback. We do try and make sure we move at a steady pace and 99% of the time we achieve this. We did have a problem with one guest's extra purchase and I'm sorry this may have affected your tour for a few minutes. Thanks very much for coming along and glad you enjoyed all of our food stops.

We had a great time with Danny as an excellent host. Starting with the surprise ‘ cast no shadow’ to an artisan bakery, Caribbean takeaway, Salford Dark spiced rum, first public housing in Manchester, butcher and ending in a Sensational This and That Indian Cafe. A fabulous way to understand Manchester better.

We loved everything about the tour, it combines the interesting history of these two areas of Manchester with absolutely delicious bites along the way taking us to restaurants, bakeries, cafés and delis which we will definitely return to. James presents the stories and facts in a fun and light hearted way, a true Mancunian, you can tell he loves his city and knows so much about it. We will definitely be booking the London tour. We would highly recommend it!

Today we had the Canapés and Canals tour with David. Hubby and I brought our three boys along and we had a fab time.

Fresh focaccia to start followed by cured salmon, cured meats and cheeses, curry and ice cream. So many to try and history along the way.

We had a great time and the children were kept engaged the whole time.

Food was awesome. Really good to try so many local providers,

David was really knowledgeable and pitched the level perfectly.

A most convivial day with our excellent host David. Enjoyed the Caribbean Soup and the wine and charcuterie in the butchers but all Venues were good. David had a great knowledge of the city’s history and having grown up here understood the special vibe this place has.
