This is a well thought out and very enjoyable experience from start to finish and very professionally managed from a COVID protection point of view. Our guide/story teller was top notch and really brought us into the history of this local business but also created an interesting and fun history of distilling in Ireland. It is very much a local endeavour which comes through loud and clear from the story telling, history, ingredients, sustainability and warm West of Ireland welcome. I highly recommend this experience and if you enjoy drinking spirits this is great value as you get to taste the Poitin, Gin and cocktails made from them. Great way to kick off an evening and our visit to Galway! Congratulations on very tasty products, a great business and visitor experience!

This was our third time to do a Distillery Tour and it was a tour with a difference. The early part dealt with the history of Poitin and Irish whiskey. Poitin is a once illicit home-made whiskey which has been legalised in recent years. The story of six generations of Poitin makers is interesting and well told by Padraig. The room is ideal for social distancing and numbers were limited. The tour is offered once a day - bookable online.
Micil distillery also distils its own gin, with a great range of botanicals, the history of gin is fascinating.
We felt the trip represented good value for money as we got to try: Micil Poitin, Micil Gin and Micil Heritage Poitin - all really palatable drinks, and we learned how they lent themselves to being a base for a long drink.
We got to see the distillery itself which is both modern and compact, the level of exoplanation of the process which we were given was spot on.
There was a nice range of merchandise available, including interesting glasses. All in all it was an hour and a half well spent and thoroughly enjoyed.

I booked this tour with four of my friends. I had a lovely experience. It cost €18 pp, we arrived at Oslo Bar which was a bar and restaurant, however it wasn't clear where the entrance to the distillery was. We were told to wait outside for our guide by one of the waitresses. We were left waiting about 10 minutes before being greeted by Padraic who was a very kind, informative and passionate host and owner of the distillery. We had a great afternoon sampling the Póitín, gin and whiskey. We learnt a lot about the history of the póitín and about the different generations involved. The tour lasted about 2 hours. We had a lovely time and I would definitely recommend this experience to others.

Well what can I say here, what you see is what you get. That lovely man standing behind the bar in the photo, well rarely do you get the main man, sharing his passion and experience in distilling. I went with my daughter and we came from watching a match so we were giddy but it was a great experience. Pádraic is funny, informative and engaging, I would highly recommend to visit Micil Distillery and I hope the experience and business grows in the future, best of luck with it all.

Though initially difficult to find the location ( it’s at the rear of a pub) the visit was a complete success. The host was engaging and knowledgable on the subject matter which should come as no surprise as he was a co-owner of the company. Although we picked this tour primarily as something to do on a wet day in Galway, I would thoroughly recommend you visit at any time, rain or shine

Can’t recommend this tour enough. It was an amazing experience to have the tour done by Padraig (who set up the buisness himself) rather than a tour guide. He was so passionate about his work and took great pride in it and rightly so. The gin was definitely one of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve tried a lot of them Lol. My partner loved the poitin, I didn’t find anything wrong with it I just can’t drink spirits straight myself but after you got to try the spirit on your own you get to add ginger beer and lime called the micil mule that was amazing. You get to see the process of the drinks and what goes into them. We felt safe there with social distancing in place and hand sanitizer given (that was made by the company) definitely get your moneys worth with this tour.

The Micil (pronounced Mick-el) distillery tour was a great experience reliving the history of Poitin, Whiskey (That is with an e) and gin. Padraic clearly has a passion for this field, which has been in his family for 6 generations. The whole experience was delivered in good humour with generous sampling opportunities to give a great value for money. Highly recommend this tour.

We truly enjoyed the Micil Distillery Experience. Padraic was very engaging with the audience and so knowledgeable. The tour was really informative and entertaining (the drinks definitely helped :D). Social distancing was very well kept, too, also hand sanitisers were provided, we felt protected.
We've learnt so many things about Irish traditions, culture, history and had a great time & great drinks. We would definitely recommend this experience to everyone visiting Galway!

A great way to spend a some time in Salthill in a small micro brewery producing Poitín and Gin.You can learn all about the history of the way the illegal spirit(now legal)was made kept up in a long family tradition, generous tasting samples with and without mixers.A little bit of Connemara in the city...
